KorgX3 spewed forth the following drivel:

:HEY! Don't forget Subtlerage uses them, too, suckhole! =)
    :
:He uses Korg, too. Roland sucks. So does his sister.

LOL! who have you been talking to? er, uh, heh.

as for the keyboards.... yeah. i own a Kurzweil PC88mx and a Korg
O1/Wfd. the Korg was simply the most kick ass thing i could find and
afford when i bought it 5 years ago. the Kurzweil was the most kick ass
sounding controller, and had the best piano sound/feel that i could find 2
years ago. i'll never trade either one of them in. the sequencer in the
Korg, IMO, is the most idiot proof straight forward and easy sequencer to
    use. and it's pretty powerful.

but if i won the lottery, i'd definitely add a Trinity and K2svx to my
setup. maybe a Wavestation too. those just rule, even if they're a bit
    outdated. :)

:Why is it that I consider myself a keyboard player, but just don't give a
:rat's ass to study all different models and such? I guess the thought

i only know what i've played. and i haven't been playing much lately
besides my own. i'm a piano player first and foremost... i only know
enough about synths to get by. but i *do* know that i prefer the sounds
on Korgs and Kurzweils the most. of course, you get what you pay for.
    they're not cheap.

Put things in perspective and rely not on the official propaganda too
much. I bet I drink beer (and many here do) a LOT more often than the
above mentioned keyboard player and/or vocalist do pot. Am I an alcoholic?
    Am I considered one?

Funny how one joint a month (or more) makes a druggie, but 20 beers a
weekend don't make an alcoholic. Don't even get me started on coffee and
    tobacco here.

    Dream Theater related? Somewhat.

    Well.

Technically, yes, but I hardly think Skadz is going to step into a

If we're going to do a campaign like this, I suggest we promote something
current: something off FII. Which leaves us in a bit of a pickle: BMS was
released as a single, but to my knowledge there isn't a video for it (or
is there....MP?). Which leaves us with HY, which does have a video. The
only problem is that it hasn't been released as a single here in the U.S.
(or has it... MP?). So I vote for Hollow Years. Let's say MTV is bombarded
with 2,000 requests to play Hollow Years. They check their stacks for a
video they don't have. Maybe they just say "To hell with it" and pop in
the new Green Day video instead. Or maybe the seeds of thought get planted
and they become more aware of the name. Or maybe, just maybe, they ask for
a copy from East/West to see if they're missing out on something. Maybe
they'll throw it in at 4:00am just to test the waters. If that happens,
THAT'S when we really pounce, flooding them with e-mails like "Gee, saw
really cool video the other night by these Dream Theater guys. Mind
playing it again?" Stranger things have happened.

What a great thread!I“m a drummer so here“s what I still need to
    complete my dream setup:

    Cymbals
Lots of them. You can never have enough of them.I need atleast three more
crashes, one china(two chinas are lots cooler than one)And Lots of
splashes.Oh, and a new ride to replace my crappy old Paiste.

    Toms
13" and 16" to be exact.

    Octobans

Atleast four!IMO, these things are the coolest thing to happen to modern
drumset since the invention of the hi-hat.Since their pitch is so high
they really make the drummer stand out.

    Assorted percussion

    Cowbells, tambourines, woodblocks...and mini timbales!

That“s about it.I tried to keep the list down.I could actually afford to
buy all these things in a few years.Of course my real(and
unrealistic)dream setup would be that of Portnoy“s.That kit has
    everything!

I just stumbled onto this CD for sale on the web the other day and had to
pick one up. It is really cool stuff, like a classical/prog thing. The web
page says it was all composed on a MIDI syth and stuff. If your into
keyboard/MIDI stuff or just well written music (which you are if you are
here) I urge you to check out the samples on this web page and pick up a
    copy for yourselves.

    Hi,

    >Chris Oates wrote :-
    >Hey guitarists and other musician folks: join in. What's your dream
    gear?

Well thanks for inviting us Chris - I was feeling a little left
out there. I've just bought my dream setup, which isn't too far away
from the whole midi/synth stuff (strange for a drummer). I used to be
one of those "ACOUSTIC OR DIE" type of drummers until I had a go on the
Yamaha DTX (v2). From then on I was completely hooked, and had to have
one. And I'm glad to say I got one the other day - and it's completely
awesome. I do a whole bunch of my own stuff on a 4-track (Tascam 414)
at home (I have a Zoom 505 for my guitar, incidentally) and I've always
had a nightmare with the drums - incredibly hard to record an acoustic
and a drum machine is a big no (it's hard to get that human feel to it
all). But the DTX allows you to configure tons of sounds - and then
play them like a real drum kit (you can even do cymbal chokes).

It rocks my world - and I piss everyone off raving about it.

            Oh joy,

Dave (a UK Jammer - now in Alabama).

About Bach's 'Toccatta and Fugue in Dm', another interesting little bit of
info: Bach used to clean and repair the huge pipe organs in church, and he
wrote that piece to test the organs. I understand he worked for the church
but was looked down upon because he kept writing this stuff that sounded
almost satanic and stuff :) At least, that's what my music teacher told me.
He went to Berklee, so he should know. (just a set up line, don't worry).

Since the thread is going on, I thought I would peek a question in here and pray for a private response.

Roland XP-50 keyboards are flat out nice. The fact that they don't do any of their own sampling is kind of a bummer, but the capabilities of the thing are just nice and sweet. It's the only keyboard I own since I'm not loaded or nuttin. I would love to have a weighted keyboard someday but the old stand-up piano downstairs handles that. (:

My question is for anyone who currently owns a XP-50 or something along those lines. The patches can be modified in just about any possible way you can think of using the onboard waveforms. The possibilities are nearly endless. So having that capability under one's belt, it leads me to believe that someone out there has a XP-50 keyboard with a disk full of some wicked custom patches. Leads, pads, etc. Is there any way someone could send me a few of those that I could play with? I'm looking for examples of what I can do with the thing (yes i'm freakin lazy and i've had the thing since january 96 so what? (: ) and in particular I'm looking for some nice potential leads.

I could come up with a few more questions but I'll leave that for later in the event that someone has an idea of where I can go with this. I don't want to spam the whole list any more than unnecessary. *grin*
