I've read half a dozen texts that contradict what you are stating. They
are quick to point out that Hector wasn't an addict, but that at least part
of this piece was penned while under the influence. Also, his memoirs
state that the symphony is not about himself and Henriette, however the
    link is hard to dismiss.

One more thing about buying an electric stringed instrument, If you buy a
Squire Strat, or a Hondo Bass, please, do not sink hundreds on Duncans or
Active pickups, a new bridge, etc. It will always be a Hondo or a
Squire... you're going to need to upgrade the INSTRUMENT first. :) If
your first bass is mediocre, it's probably the whole bass that's
mediocre... a pickup switch may do jack.

What about rackmounts with no built in sequencers, and just great
sounds (I can use my PC as a sequencer... this is not for live playing.
I'd get a KEYBOARDIST for live playing.)

I have never seen someone referred to as a "music virtuoso." The
term is generally applied to prowess on an instrument. "The
single-instrument specialist" could be a violin virtuoso, a piano
virtuoso, etc. So I make nice beeg group to cast all into. You go now.

Back is one. In the Romantic era there were MANY. :) Bach is
more musical to my ears than Liszt, in that I could see applying his music
to the guitar, or any instrument, but I will admit that I am so stunned by
the complexity and the composition of Liszt's piano work that I'm more
entertained by it than I am by Bach these days. Chopin that, tough guy!

Those PROBABLY... and this is just a guess here... they PROBABLY
don't fit into the same category as Webern, Ives, Copeland, etc. Neither
does Yanni, though. At least, I'm GUESSING.

As long as we are rambling about newbies and the FAQ, I decided to
grab a new copy of the FAQ 'cause I haven't read it since it was updated.
(I know, boo hiss...) Anyway, I dug out my first doc to see how to grab the
FAQ through the mail, and when I tried I got an error message from the
    listproc.

         So, what's the deal? I know I didn't mis-spell anything; I still have
the draft on file. Has anyone else had a problem w/ this? Or is it just me?
I would go to the web-site, but in my position here at the Companies I
don't need to access any "mission critical" documents on the 'net, so no
www for me. Any help or insight into this matter is appreciated. Jam on...

Racks with great sounds? How much you want to spend try the jv2080 or the
jv1080 from roland. Also, look at the qsr from alesis, the k2500r from

    Hello ye jammers,

I have a Rush page that I've created, and I figured some DT fans would want to see it. It's, quite simply, the best web page in existance. It includes lyrics, band information, tabs, multimedia, a library, the meaning of life, the cure for cancer, and hundreds of adoring beautiful women at my command...

Here's what prominent critics have said:

"I believe I now have a reason for my existance! Thank you Alex!" -Geddy Lee

"Screw Freewill! Alex is my god!" -Neil Peart

"I may be the best looking Rushian, but Alex <Smith> is much more handsome than I could ever be!" -Alex Lifeson

"Wow, Alex's webpage makes my band look like cheesecake! Hey, Ginger, would you, uh, play 'Two of a Perfect Pair' for me?" -Robert Fripp

    and many more!

    Uh wait, never mind.

Really, I've spent a lot of work on it, so please check it out and tell me what you think:

I can't really give advice on sequencers on a keyboard, since I don't use em and hopefully never will have to. A computer-based sequencer has about a billion times more flexibility, somply from the point of view of having a more graphical interface. The only 2 reasons to have a sequencer on the keyboard are: 1 -- Price: If you don't own a computer and can't afford a sequencer, just a keyboard. Justifiable, but you'll have to really work to get much music out of it, or 2 -- you want to trigger a sequence live, and don't want to lug a computer around. Good reason, but who wants to trigger sequenes live? What are you, Full on the Mouth? :)

My recommendation: If you have a PC or a Mac, get a sequencer for that instead of on the keyboard. At least, given what hell I put sequencers through, it would take me ten times as long to get a song out on a keyboard-based seq than with e a computer-based one.

As far as rack modules go, it really depends on what you want. If you want General MIDI, Roland makes a few good ones, and I happen to like their GS sound set. Much better than creative, at least. If you want to add some specifics to your setup, there's a bunch to choose from. Alesis makes their Nano line (nanosynth, nanobass, nanopiano) -- they have pretty good sound and are under $400 each, I think. Roland has their line of JV expansion boards in racks. It includes Bass & Drum, Strings, Vintage Synth. Those run about $400 to $500 each. If you're really interested in the Vintage Synth, I can get you a good deal on one since I have one that I don't really use anymore. Since getitng the JP-8000 for leads and pads, and with the TR-Rack having a better Leslie sim than the (pre-sampled) one on the Vintage board, I don't need its sounds any more. That and if I get the VK-7 I won't need anything for Hammond organs any more.

Like the advice for buying guitars and such, the best thing to do is to go down to a store, see what they have in stock and play on it. Ask a friendly sales droid to show you what they have and how much it costs. Good Luck.

Yeah, but come on. Awake has been out four years now? When Awake came out, we disected the shit out of that album. We do with every release. He brought up one of the most obvious aspects of that album. It would have been the same if he had said "Hey, did everyone know that Kevin quit right after recording Awake?" It just isnt very useful, and it adds nothing to anything. Neither does this post, but thats not the point ; )

If it isnt in the FAQ, it should be. Pat G (Im pretty sure he is the moderator now, maybe i should check the FAQ) seriously needs to update that thing. And this should go in it. But as far as I can tell, the faq on UACM still says that D-man is the moderator...That needs to be changed.

I'm not sure how progressive they are, but Tempest (on Magna Carta) is supposed to be a prog/celtic folk band. Another Celtic band I saw on the net it "The Paperboys." They have samples at http://www.paperboys.com/ They sound more of a Celtic Crash Test Dummies band, but they it's pretty cool.

An' if you like Celtic stuff, go get David Arkenstone's "Celtic Book of Days" album. I think it's beats Enya by a long shot, but that's just me. =) Enya's still pretty cool.

Ack. I recommend a person looking for a new instrument avoid the droids as much as possible. They will do whatever possible to try and get you to by their crap that should not even be on the shelves it sucks so bad. That's why they always plug you into the twead suitcases when you try out JPM's and stuff. They know you're not going to buy the guitar, but they have some terrible hope that some absolute idiot will actually want the twead amp. :P And be very careful. I've tried out some basses where the neck was so terribly bowed it was actually unplayable (It was a Gibson I believe) and they were still selling it for $500. :\ As far as beginner basses, I recommend Washburn or Ibanez (SDGR, SoundGear, whatever you wanna call 'em).

    Howdy Howdy -

It's a damn good thing that I'm typing this, cuz I sure as hell can't speak right now. :-) Last night, I made the 2 hour road trip to Danbury, CT to see the mighty Savatage at Tuxedo Junction. Avert your eyes, if you must, for a review follows...

    *** SPOILERS ***

Well, the concert basically kicked my ass into next Tuesday! For those who were there this past October for their pre-European tour gig, the set list was similar, but they threw in some great different trax to keep it interesting. Here's my best shot at a set list (from what I can remember):

The Ocean / Welcome Chance Jesus Saves Turns To Me Morning Sun Handful Of Rain The Storm (Al Pitrelli ripping shit up!) This Is the Time Blackjack Guillotine The Hourglass Dead Winter Dead Labyrinths Edge Of Thorns Temptation Revelation (Chris Caffrey kicking MAJOR ass on this one!) When the Crowds Are Gone (Jon singing!) Belive (Jon Singing again!) Gutter Ballet (Jon and Zack trading vox)

ENCORE #1: Paragons Of Innocence (Jon singing) Sirens (HELL YEAH!)

ENCORE #2: Hall Of the Mountain King

Gawd, I hope I didn't forget any tracks. I think that's it, though. The beginning and end of the show are very vivid in my head, but the exact order of the tunes in the middle is a bit blurry. :-) The crowd was rather large, I thought, and VERY loud. Aside from some technical and instrumental malfunctions (Christ, Al's guitar cut out in the middle of the Storm, of all songs!), last night's show blew away last October's. They cut out "I Am" and "Anymore", from last time, but they added "Crowds", "Storm", "Sirens", "Labyrinths", and "Paragons". It was a killer gig, indeed. Opening for the band last night was an impressive local prog rock/metal band called "Crucible". They were pretty cool, and I picked up their CD there for $10. I will have to give it a good listen. Then, the 2nd band on was completely out of place. I think it was called "Anthrophobia" or some shit like that, and they sounded like a Korn ripoff! What's worse, they are touring with the Tage and opening at all their shows on this tour! Sounds like a label-match to me...

Anyway, that's about it. If you are thinking about checking out the Tage this time 'round, do yourself a favor and go. It was awesome!

    Laterz..... Matt T.
