    Hi all

yep, I've got another review for you, and one that I'm sure a lot of you will
    really enjoy.

    STIGMATA - Solum Mente Infirmis

Four guys from Austria producing something that you normally don't
associate with Austria - excellent metal. Those of you who are familiar
with my general taste in music know that I don't really like bands such
as Savatage, Iron Maiden, Helloween etc. This album has some power
metal elements, but they are tastefully broken up by some very progressive
passages, good instrumental or acoustic parts and some simple good hard
riffs. The most obvious feature of the album is Ritchie Krenmaier's almost
perfect vocal performance - one of the very few prog singers I've heard who
leaves me wanting more. Some interesting song developments, especially
in my favourite track "Sacred Man", which has the touch of darkness that
I often miss in other prog stuff - if all the songs were as good as this, I
could award top marks. Overall, the band reminds me of Threshold and
    occasionally of Vauxdvihl. 9/10

    stay safe and happy listening

For those bleeding hearts who have already sent out buisness cards
you've been scammed. For those of you who are about to send out
buisness cards DON'T. In case anyone doesn't know this whole thing
is a sham. Little, terminally ill Craig has been seven for 4 consecutive
years now (great trick, I know a few chicks who have been 29 4 years
in a row too...) Every year for the past 4 years I've gotten at least 2
emails about little Craig. Short of sounding TOTALLY callous if the
kid REALLY existed and was terminally ill I think he'd be pushing
up the daisies for quite some time now and the buisness cards would
be of little use (unless the sob story about the little kid not being able
to afford a coffin and the buisness cards were being glued together to
     make his final resting place)

    Hello Fellow Jammers,
Although it seems to us that Graham's recent response to Mike Bahr's
mumbling was pretty thorough, we nevertheless do wish to clarify our reasons
for putting out limited edition copies of our CDs.
The main reason for our doing so, is that our goal is to supply high quality
COLLECTORS editions of the shows we are putting out. In that way, people who
purchase our CDs know that they are purchasing something unique, which will
eventually become a precious item in their collection. Further on, if there
is someone who is left out, there are plenty of people out there who will
readily supply a copy. (Note: it's perfectly OK with us if other people will
be making CD-R copies of our CDs once the originals are no longer available,
as long as they are not the numbered copies). Most importantly, WE DO NOT
AIM TO MAKE A LIVING out of those CDs, like Mr. Bahr does. We both have real
jobs, and we thus are unlikely to use the money we receive for the CDs to
buy food or pay for "the family problems". Finally, in our opinion, bootlegs
SHOULD be limited edition cause otherwise they loose half of their charms.
And as for Mike Bahr being against limited editions, well, we guess he
really needs the money to survive in this cruel world. So, show some mercy
and send him a couple of hundred bucks, and maybe you'll get your discs
before the end of the century (don't forget to cross your fingers on that).
Take care and keep on rocking,
Volodya and Felix of Open All Night Records.

    To Mike Bahr personally:
    Mike,
We have specifically tried to avoid discussing you and your business on the
list, hoping you will show us the same courtesy. You have decided otherwise
though, so here we go. Unless you want to start another jam war, please
abstain from ever mentioning us in your posts, and we will do the same.
    Otherwise, WATCH YOUR BACK........

The only other Savatage I've heard is their new album, Wake of Magellan,
and Streets. Both are very good. WoM is much more similar stylistically
to Handful of Rain. Streets has more of an old school metal sort of sound.
Both are concept albums, but story seems to flow better in Streets.
Streets is great, but has a different lead vocalist, Jon Oliva, who IMHO
isn't as good. I only got Wake of Magellan a couple weeks ago, and it's
the best album I've picked up in a long time. A must have if you're at all
    into Savatage.

    Ahoy-hoy,

So, I was sitting in my room last night, writing a letter, and my
roommate is in the other room watching Cheers. He yells to me "Hey!
The person who sings the theme song is named Gary Portnoy!"

First of all, I give him credit for remembering MP's name and making
that connection. I guess I'm finally getting to him... heh heh.

Second, what gives, Mike? Is this guy related to you, or are all
    Portnoys inherently musical?

Also, I'd like to announce that I'm forming my own bootleg company,
just so I can get away from you fucking people. I'm gonna make CD-Rs
for me, and possibly people who look like Paulina Porizkova. If
you'd like to try and order something from me, please call our
hotline. It'll be staffed by elderly men who think their hearing
aids are being repaired, who are also watching Matlock episodes on
one of those new 42" wall TVs. They will happily take your VISA
number, and not so happily answer all other questions. You *will*
get something shipped to you. It *will* be collectible. It may not
be a CD. Please note that I will only accept payment in pennies.

I'm sick of boot flame wars. Let's start a happy war. Here, I'll
start: I traded with Mike Burstin about 5 years ago. For blanks,
even. He even threw in some DT stuff as filler. Got me hooked on
the band. Gosh he sure is a swell guy.

    Okbye.

I wish I had an archive of past jams so I could refute this more
effectively. I've been on list list since just after Subconscious sold
out, and I remember the "updates" you posted for the subsequent "silver"
CDs. I remember things like you saying that there would only be 500 or
1000 of a given CD - not because you would "simply run out of supply",
but because you would never make any more (originals). I also remember
you boasting about the resell values of Subcon and AD. I'm sorry, but
the resell value only has meaning to one segment, and it's not the "real
fans" - it's to collectors. You may have been "upset" that every fan
couldn't get a copy of every CD, but please don't try to revise history.
You were perfectly willing to take advantage of the "collectors" market
    to sell your CD's then.

FWIW, I believe you when you say that it's always been about "the fans".
If you have changed your opinion about the collectors, then that's fine,
but please don't try and tell us it was always that way, because it
    clearly wasn't.

OK. This whole rediculous thread is popping up more frequently than ever and has been the reason for my temporary unsubbing over the last few months. To sum it up:

Mike Bahr: Sell your CD's and shut the fuck up.

Everyone else: We've all been screwed by Mike in the past (or at least it sounds like alot of us have). If you trust him to order from him again, then do so and shut the fuck up. If you don't, don't, and shut the fuck up.

If you hate him that much, call the FBI on him, it's that simple. Personally, I could care less about any of it, except that I don't want to be reading about any of it here.

You can only use the discount once, unless you set up more than one account for yourself... perhaps one with your whole name "Jon Kretschmer", and one with only your initial "J. Kretschmer". You might have to delete the CDNOW cookie before you can log in under the second account, but there is always a way around stuff like that.
