Hey, why doesn't EVERYONE post about how there's no DTC! That's SURE
to make the list more on topic! Yes! Then we'll have entire digests of
people bitching about NDTC! Get a clue. We get off topic whether you
like it or not, and whining about it isn't going to change anything...
in fact you're just adding to the off topic content yourselves. Hey,
here's an idea... if you want more DTC, then POST SOMETHING DT RELATED!

With sentiments like these, drastic action must be taken! As this list is
becoming far too NDTC-based, I propose the following:

The list should become moderated. That way, we can make the list less
interesting, while making it much more difficult to maintain. Great!! In
an effort to get back to more Dream Theater related content, we must
discontinue discussing other music, bands which are similar to DT,
concerts, or musical instruments, as they pertain little to actual
DT-related discussion. Instead, we can focus on the private side of the
    band.

    1) What kinds of foods do the band members eat?
    2) Why do they eat such foods?
    3) Who turned them on to these foods?
    4) What are the favorite sexual positions of the band members?
    5) Why is there such a big difference between "Dream Theater" and "Dream
    Theatre" ?

With questions such as these, we can quickly get back to more
    appropriate, on-topic discussion.

Without a hint of sarcasm (smirk),

    Andrew

Ah, newbies. Virgin blood for the likes of Eckie, Bafu, and PuhTaySek. Here, I'll make it simple for you:

    a) This list is about anything that remotely relates to Dream Theater. That includes what we might assume their influences may be, how we're influenced by them, music that we might like by association (i.e. "Hey - you like prog/metal - you might like this new band..."), DT boots/interviews/etc., and anything else that comes close to being DT-related.

While this may not appeal to you at first, I strongly suggest you tough it out and read the posts here. Sure, you might find more DT-related material on the newsgroups, but there are bands mentioned here that you may NEVER hear about there and might really get into - I'd never heard of Stratovarius, Royal Hunt, or The Gathering, for example, and those are three *great* bands. So just because there isn't a boatload of DT, doesn't mean that this is a bad list.

    b) If you don't like it, unsubscription directions are available in the FAQ. But trust me - stick around. It's worth it.

IF you can swim through the flamewars and crap that goes along w/ an unmoderated list, this place is an EXCELLENT window to the world of progressive, epic, and usually heavy music. Because of this list, I've gotten into bands like Fates Warning, Savatage, Stratovarius, Superior, and SYMPHONY X. I've met friends, local and global, that are really great people, and I've learned a lot about music, instruments, and gear. If you don't like the Ytsejam, un sub. Thanks :)

One third of the posts are DT related? You mean we've actually got 33% s/n ratio? That's pretty damn good, if you ask me. :)

Erm, to add to the DTC, how many folks out there have enough DT clothing merchandise to (if they so chose) wear a different DT shirt everyday and still be able to do laundry once per week? (and no, wearing the same shirt without washing it doesn't count?) I've got something like 9 shirts now. (Hi, my name's Chris and I'm a ytseholic)

Dunno, seemed like a good thing to comment on at the time. :)

Why do so few of the subbies keep insisting that so many of us on the rest of this list don't like the varying threads, the off topic, the dreaded "NDTC?" I believe it would be common sense to realize that most of the people on this list have a great interest in other topics. Mostly because most of the people on this list do indeed have a brain, and sometimes even use it... :)

This is for the NDTC complainers:

Goddammit people! How FUCKING boring do you wish to make it for the rest of us?!! Do you have your head stuck so far up DT's collective asses that you can't think for yourselves? Do you think they sit around and talk about nothing but their fans, and the almighty Ytsejam Mailing List? FUCK NO! They have lives, they have families, and a lot of interests that include other aspects of life. They have lives, the rest of us have lives, I suggest the rest of you complainers go and find one soon, before they are taken back off the clearance rack at your local K-Mart. Could you do me a favor? Pull your heads out of your asses, and actually READ the Jam. Maybe you'll learn something. Or maybe you just might laugh your ass of every now and again.

For the rest of you Jammers:

I love being on this list, I love the content. I don't post much, because I work so much I barely have time to read the Jam every day. But keep up the great(I said GREAT) content. There is usually a damn good laugh at the end of every day here on this list waiting for me. Thank you all for that. You guys are a lot of fun. I suggest we just build a permanent "bitching Bonfire," and toss the whole lot of dumbfuck complainers into it. They obviously won't take the hint, they won't conform, they don't understand that there is a thing called life, which is usually experienced off of the interenet, and in a place called, "Outside." Maybe we should take them there.

    Hi everbody,

in the last days a lot have been said about bootlegs, and one issue I didn't read anywhere. In the future Rush and probably DT will bring out a live album. For example Rush will (rumours say) bring a live CD with (excerpts from) the Counterparts and Test for echo tour. For people with bootlegs, nothing new will be on these discs.Since with almost perfect bootlegs like Critical Mass and Virtual Songs, you already have everything that will be on the live album and a lot more. The question is wheter you'll buy the new album?

For me there's only one answer: YES. Besides the better sound quality, I think that when buying/collecting bootlegs, you have an obligation to buy the official releases, otherwise the band really is harmed by the bootleg industry. May be I will always play the bootlegs and almost never play a official release, but that's the extra price you have to be for being a collector.

If you don't buy an official realease because of having al the bootlegs: just think about what your favourite band really means to you!!

If evrybody just buys the official releases, I think bootlegs don't mind.

    Patrick Sebel

P.S.: just counting down for the fan club gig in Rotterdam, where (I read) videos will be shot and everything will be recorded: a very special night in Holland!!!

Hey,i couldnt even imagine we might argue on such things but ok,u asked for it :)) Dont get me wrong Dave,in my opinion Geoff Tate is the BEST singer (yeah, better than Dio,Dickinson,LaBrie,Gillan,Ozzy etcetctec) and i have fallen for his voice a long time ago..but music is not only structures and bars and technique and production (else Pearl Jam would never become a great band..they still cant play sh*t),its emotion too like you said.Well I dont really think OM's songs can compare to pieces like "Mozart and Madness","Not what we meant","Christmas Eve","One Child" and "Not what you see" (THE chilling song)..Thats just my opinion of course..I do agree Queensryche is more important that Savatage, they are better musicians (Criss Oliva excluded) and no sava album will ever reach Promised Land's production. After all the OM story doesnt sound too original,I watch 10 OM-like movies every day :) Oh btw,its not a hard rock album, its metalmetalmetal! This is taking too long but I cant help it..ok,in my opinion again,TWOM could never ever compare to DWD ..the only thing thats better in TWOM is the arrangements which are better only becoz DWD sold many copies and the company thought they'd spend more money on this..but everything thats in TWOM comes from other Sava albums.. some are edge of thorns-like while the uh multivocals (?) are obviously first met on handful of rain and DWD (Oliva and O'Neill luv Queen :) )..IMO the first album some who's never heard the 'tage is Gutter Ballet, only that..ok nuff said, stay clean Ytsejammers.

They also had Aenima used, so I could finally replace my pilfered copy at reasonable cost. And I'm happy to hear Metal Blade is picking up the other albums. Now waiting to buy them will have paid off: I'll be helping the band at their new label! Thanks Lisa Marie! Or is it Jessie?

So if you've been on the Jam before, why on earth are you posting this? If there is 1/3 relating to DT, that's a HIGH percentage. Especially considering the relative lack of band activity.

Mr. Stephens spake: >I don't subscribe to this list to read crap that is totally unrelated to dt.
