    >almost perfect bootlegs like Critical Mass and Virtual Songs, you
    >already have everything that will be on the live album and a lot
    >more. The question is wheter you'll buy the new album?

(Sound of Josh clearing his throat a la #2 in Austin Powers...)

Well, I for one will be running, not walking to the store to pick up
any new releases from Rush or DT when they come out. When FII came out, my
friend and I had to wait for the guy to pull it out of the shipping crate
for us. This will be no different.

As for any boots anyone may have, well who wouldn't want a _real_ live
recording of the shows? I have Critical Mass, and it sounds fabulous, but I
want a real, edited, nicely mixed show. As for Virtual Songs, I think
you're being a little generous calling it almost perfect as a bootleg. It
may be complete material-wise, but sound-wise it's not exactly a
soundboard. Still, it's the best we have so far. And, for me, that's what
boots represent: the best we have so far to listen to our fav bands live
until they get with the program and hook us up with some professionaly
produced live stuff. Anyway, I do agree with the part about buying a band's
"label" releases in addition to boots. I own all of Rush's and DT's stuff
(yes, I _finally_ found WDADU) and I feel slightly less horrible about
owning bootlegged stuff. For me, it's all about getting as much music from
    the band as I can.

As for the NDTC complainers, well I don't always really care when
someone goes off on a tangent about their keyboard setup, but it's
interesting to lots of other people, so I page down and look for something
more my style. It's a potpourri of information here on the 'jam, just enjoy
what's relevant to you and ignore the rest. That's my advice.

Well, having rambled, I have to get back to work. All of you euro
'jammers, prepare to see those Scottish hooligans get their arses whooped
by Brasil today! Vive la coupe du monde! Oh yeah, and go Red Wings...

Actually about 5 years ago I would have completely agreed with this
statement but after the last QR album I realize that Tate is REALLY
having some voice problems. I've been a Ryche fan since only the ep
was out (gawd, that was a LONG ass time ago) and nearly creamed
myself when the warning was released. His used more opera on the
warning than just about any other album, holding/rolling notes high
enough to make my testicles crawl up. Rage for Order was their attempt
at cheesing out in the late 80's. Don't get me wrong there a quite a few
GREAT songs off of that album but being that album was sandwiched
inbetween The Warning and Mindcrime, well it tends to pale alot.
Promised Land came out and the vocals dropped another notch for Tate
then Hear in the Now Frontier and after hearing that lame ass album I
realized that, like Metallica (ACK THE M WORD!), Queensryche had
just flushed down the shitter. I don't think I've ever heard Tate's voice
sound that bad in concert yet alone on a studio album.
As for the others...Dio is Dio awesome voice then, awesome voice now
he has his own unique style and nobody I have ever heard sounds like him.
Dickenson...see Dio's comment, though Bruce was at his prime in his early
     maiden years.
LaBrie, there's a topic...LaBrie's vocals are fucking astounding. I just
    hope
when DT has been around as long as QR has that LaBrie's voice doesn't
change (Aka he takes real good care of it). I'd seriously have to give
    LaBrie
the "best vocalist of today" award. From the grating screams to the gentle
whispers I'd be real hard pressed to find someone better. (Well I live in
    Raleigh,
NC...maybe I can go up to the mountains and find some backwoods hick living
in a rusted out trailer that has an outhouse out back that could
    sing...kinda like
the Deliverance freak but instead of a banjo...*grin*)

Yes, there is something music-related in this post eventually...

    Finals are over.

The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen.

I got Billy William's signature at the Cubs game last night. If any of you
are big baseball fans, you'll know why that's cool. And I figure I might as
well mention it, because hey, it's no less DT-related than "This list
sucks," and it's actually a positive comment, which we could use more of
around here. <----- Your 'HYPOCRITE'-o-meter should be off the dial at this
    point. :)

Now, a little musical content. If anyone is going to be at the Page/Plant
show in Minneapolis on Friday, drop me a line.

Further musical content. If anyone is going to be at Ozzfest at Somerset
July 18th, drop me a line.

Last bit of musical content. DT like, rox nutz 'n shit.

"The Cubs game"? So you were at the Hubert H. Humphrey
Wrigley-o-dome, then? Hey, how about that Brad Radke, by the way? I
guess he showed that Kerry Wood kid that you need more than just

Ok, I'll bite. Who's Billy Williams?

i don't know if this particular post is related to my comment, but i see from
the rest of the jam that some people are a little flustered here. let me
clarify my position, maybe this time it will make more sense. the part that
truly stinks is that it seems that the FEMALE jammers are a little more snide
than the rest, which is saddening. There are so few women that listen to or
produce prog rock that i don't see why they feel the need to jump up my snatch
    the first post i write.

I am not a *newbie* - i was a part of list about a year and a half ago, then
unsubbed because i moved. figured i'd re-subscribel about 2 months later last
november or so, then unsubbed again because the flames and fighting weren't my
    thing.
then, to be honest, i resubbed this time in hopes of finding a set of the tour
dates for the DT-ELP-Deep Purple thing, which i STILL can't seem to find : (

so, jammers, **APOLOGIES** if i bruised your sense of equilibrium. If i
wanted to have my head up their collective asses, I would email them directly
and ask if i could. I meant simply to shake things up a bit, see how many
jammers don't ever post, or see if you'd even pay attention - my postings a
year ago went completely unnoticed - which i see you did.Not only that, but i
was treated pretty harshly - and for a group of people supposedly on a list in
support of things they love, that was rather shocking.

maybe i'll keep my mouth shut.
    or not.

That'll be fixed as soon as Pat's new version goes public.
I can't edit the FAQ, not even to update the name of it's
maintainer, because I only mirror it. Simple as that.

That's also why the current DT discography on UACM is so
damned outdated. But Jeremy Hyde is gonna change that. :)
If you have any (official!) items that aren't mentioned
in the most recent DT discography, please tell Jeremy
about them (and try to be as detailed as possible).

The biography is a different story... It's based on the
official one, but I try to keep it up to date... You know,
the equipment they use, where they live, the kids and pets
      they have, etc... :)

Oh yeah, Explorers Club's "Age Of Impact" got pushed back to
July 27th... So now we've got ChromaKey in June, Explorer's
Club in July and Platypus in August (17th for Europe). :)

John Wesley (NOT John Wesley Harding) is (or used to be) Steve
Rothery's guitar tech and opened for Marillion on a few tours.
He's one of those artists people either seem to love or hate,
and happen to be one of the former. I wouldn't go as far as to
call him the male Tori Amos, though... For starters, Wes plays
guitar, not piano. The only resemblance *I* can think of, is
that both their lyrics tend to be rather personal.

    > please let me know if this is good.

Depends on your taste in music, but I think he's pretty good.
Also check out John Wesley's official website "WesWeb" at
      http://web3.ee.net/vermont/wes/wes.htm (think they have some
      samples there).

Learn to enjoy the POWER of the Page Down key. Many consider it an

Come on, man! Mike himself has recently begun posting on the list. And

Question: Has there been any research done on altering relative time?
I'd like to see Dream Theater play for more than one hour, yet have it
appear to the concert promoters that only one hour has elapsed. If MP/JP
are able to approach the speed of light and are moving in opposite
direction, will there be a perceived slowing down of time? Perhaps if we
feed the promoters a daily dose of psychotropics, time simply won't
matter to them, much less anything else :)

E-mailing of any pointers to reference material on this subject is fine
as I know how much even the mere mentioning of drugs on such a pure
    list, simply isn't tolerated.
    /sarcasm

Check out a book called "From Chocolate to Morphine" if you think you're
so pure. The book has been out for a while now, so if you have trouble
finding it, I'm sure you could pick up a bootleg of it or something :)

Oooh! I think this is my cue. So, because I'm FEMALE, I can't voice my opinion? Should I have baked some cookies instead?

Hey, I call em how I see em... or maybe I'm just a bitch.

    > There are so few women that listen to or > produce prog rock that i don't see why they feel the need to jump up my snatch > the first post i write.

Let's think about that for a second. The first post you write, has nothing to do with DT, yet you complain that 2/3 of the posts are not about DT... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Every post is bound to start a thread of some length... now had your first post actually been ABOUT DT then we might have a nice little DT thread going here... instead you just whined about the lack of DT content, and now we have a big ass thread going on about complaining. Now did that help your DT content issue?? No it didn't, did it?

Yes, I am a big contributor to this thread, but then I wasn't bitching about the content in the first place, so I couldn't care less. I don't mind when people go off topic, in fact I quite enjoy it... and if 2/3 of the posts are off topic the I'd have to guess that there are quite a few others that don't mind as well.

It's the only DT information site that is kept up to date.

Welcome back, you'll get over the shock.

Lisa...get back in the kitchen and make me a pie! And get barefoot while you are at it! You might be a bitch but I am THE bitch, ( and that's Ms.Bitch to you ;))

I second Lisa's emotion on the ratio or balance of DTC. If this were all DT all the time....how the heck would we find out about other bands, concerts, events, new cd releases, etc. This list is fine....if it ain't broke..don't try and fix it! You want moderated...go to another list. Wait? is that one even still around??????????

okay time for me to remind the females on here the do's and don'ts of being a Lady Jammer!

DON'T talk about your naughty parts...who made you do that? SATAN?????

I happen to think we Lady Jammers are a rare and wonderful breed. We are so enlightened about our musical tastes.. Don't spoil it for the rest of us by whining. And if there were more females that were enlightened to Progressive or just plain AWESOME music....well that kinds cuts back on the supply of available prog loving guys!
