    Hi there progsters
Unfortunately I don't have the time to read the postings
regularly, so I might have mist some thinks. What's this story about
people complaining about ytsejam? I'm in the list about half a year
and learned about DT more than I have the last 5 years or so.

Q: Where Mike "the drummGod" Portnoy (AntiChrist!?) appears in his
full MAJESTY [except from behind his drum kit]?
A: The YTSEJAM list (maybe elsewhere? don't know)

3 days, 9 hours and 30 minutes till THE CONCERT (Dream Theater
    performing in Athens, Greece)

More 'Ryche? geeeez..Promised Land dont suck at all,its a great album only
    it
isnt too erhm heavy and u can hardly find any riffs in it (like Sava
    DWD)..but
thats the concept, being more mature and all they decided to work on
    lyrics,
arrangements, production and not music itself..like metallica do in their
    last
albums (that arent bad at all, they just dont sound like metallica..if we
    had
1 million dollars to spend on recordings,we'd write better albums than
    Load :) )
Rage was the benchmark for prog metal indeed..though I admit i dont like
    it too
much..IMHO it cant compare to Mindcrime, nor Promised Land but they'd never
    be able
to write such albums if it wasnt for Rage.thats just my opinion of
    course,i know
most of u disagree :) as about Geoff's singing,i havent listened to
    "Hear.." yet
(doubt i'll ever do) so i wouldnt know if he voice has gotten worse..i
    just like
the way he sings in low notes..like most of PL songs,or "Silent Lucidity"
    etc..
it was on Rage when he first started to work on his voice (expand its
    range as well)
Ah btw, about Sava fans, guys none of you mentioned "Transiberian
    Orchestra",the
project of O'Neill,Oliva and other Sava members..most of the songs of that
christmas album have the TWOM feeling..and are better..thats why when i
    listened
to TWOM (after TO's album had melted in my cd player) i didnt think its
    too unique
opinions,opinions.....btw dont be hasty,'Ryche is NOT over yet! they'll be
    back.

    Asmodel

ps hey what about Empire? its moody and simple but good too..funny how
    they became
       famous with THAT album..tsktsk..

    Says who?

I hereby nominate Mark Bredius as the new Dream Theater FAQ maintainer.
    See, wasn't that easy?

If Mark were to start updating the FAQ, what would make his version any
less official than Pat's non-existent version? I say "go for it", Mark.

Oh yeah, and thank you Alex Fraser:

    >"worse... Smithers, release the robotic Richard Simmons." Thanks to you, my mind spontaneously started playing "Shake Your Booty"! Damn you! Now I'll have K.C. and the Sunshine Band in my head all day!

In DT related-news, does the Minnesota DP/DT/ELP show have any age restrictions? I know a couple of my friends who are going to be high school seniors would like to go, and I'd like to immerse them in the prog experience this is sure to be, but, as you have probably already figured out, they aren't 18 yet, and won't be by August. So, any word? At least don't let it be a 21+ show or _my_ 20 year old ass'll be out in the cold. Thanks for any info...

I'll have to disagree. I found Promised Land to be a great album and still enjoy it very much. BUT..... I find it works best in it's recorded format. Most of the pre-promised land Ryche stuff is just better live. Just by watching two videos, one of Mindcrime, and on of Promised Land, I enjoy the mindcrime one much more. Promised Land does not seem to have the same effect live.

    Hey all,

We're sitting in the 'Hard Disk Cafe' in Milan, after finding out about an hour ago that the Monsters of Rock had been moved to Turin! Don't know when this was decided, but I never heard anything about it until we bought the tickets from the Virgin Megastore just now.

Haven't been able to read the jam over the last week, so I don't know what has been said about this, and also about Van Halen. They cancelled today's concert in Zurich on Monday apparently, (we were also going to go to that one) and so I have no idea if they will be performing in Turin tomorrow. - If not, more DT!

I think I must be a jinx as I was heading for the Nottigham gig (the one that almost became a Liquid Tension/Platypus/instrumental set) when that was called off!

If anyone knows anything about the situation with the Monsters of Rock, and you are in ACK mode, mail me before 3:00 GMT.

Thanks, and maybe we'll meet some Italian Jammers tomorrow.

    Adrian.

Scott F. inquired re: Artension: > Anyone else heard anything from them? If ppl want, I could possibly > upload a mp3 of one song to Dr Mosh's site...

Artension's a very good band, overlooked by a lot of people I think. Vitalij Kuprij is a bit shred-happy, sometimes overlooking melody in favor of pure speed, but the music overall is outstanding. "Phoenix Rising" is the better of their two discs but "Into the Eye of the Storm" is impressive too. Both are worth picking up.

After reading some encouraging rumors about Jason Becker, Calvin remarked: > Okay, if this is true - I am genuinely excited. I almost HATED seeing new > news about Jason Becker since the DLR album because it was always BAD news. > Earlier this year I received a letter from Jason's mother (because I ordered > Perspectives from Jason) stating Jason was going in for surgery, but it > sounded like it was surgery just to help a certain problem (breathing). If Jason is recovering then this is the best news I've heard in > quite a LONG time. If anyone out there knows more, please report back.

I had to quote this in its entirety to emphasize it and second the emotion. I too would REALLY REALLY like to know what's going on with Jason, but his page hasn't been updated in forever and a day.

I would be happy as hell to find out that Jason's getting better, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you folks. ALS is a hell of a thing to fight. And please, if you *DO* find something out, let us know where you got your info -- don't just say "I heard that Jason was getting better" or something. That just freaks all of us out, and I think (and I'm sure Mike Bahr would agree) that we've got enough freaks on this list already.

Right there are the two you need to get. After that, there are tons more you can get, but of the ones you listed those are the best two. Both of them should be required listening for all prog maniacs. "Twilight in Olympus" is excellent too, but TDWOT is just a masterpiece.

Steve Z remarked: > Just to clarify, When you speak of "Flight of the bumblbee" you speak of > that classical composition by the composer whose name I am forgetting > right now. It was written for violin, I think.

Rimsky-Korsakov wrote "Flight of the Bumblebee".

Batten's version is on her album "Above Below and Beyond". It'd have done Rimsky-Korsakov proud. The Great Kat also did a blurring rendition of this piece, but I'm not sure which of her albums it's on -- it might be on "Worship Me or Die".
