Well, now that I finally got QR:OM yesterday (yes, feel free to make fun

I can die peacefully now that I know the Killmary thing, and also now
that I know what the hell Nicky Lemons is!
Btw, from what I've heard so far, QR:OM kicks ass!
So far, I think "Suite Sister Mary" and "The Mission" are tops.

I just bought 3 cds.
Spock's Beard:Kindness of Strangers-I haven't had much time to really
listen to this one, but it is great stuff. Currently thought I am
leaning to Beware of Darkness as being better...
Kansas:Always Never The Same-I didn't even know Kansas had a new one
until some Jammer posted about it. This is basically old songs redone
with the London Symphony Orchestra. No Carry On Wayward Son though...
Great cd.
Y&T:Endangered Species-Y&T goes back to their roots. This cd in my
opinion is way better than their last effort, Musically Incorrect. This
cd compares to their older days such as In Rock We Trust. This is a
great hard rock cd. It is great that there still are bands that can put
non grunge rock out...

Just because an exchange of thoughts is between females does NOT make it a gender issue. I don't feel that I'm a "traitor" to my gender, what ever the fuck that means, but I sure as hell am not going to hold back my opinion on any issue just because the recipient of my venom just happens to be female.
Now for some DTC: I was third in line at the BASStard outlet yesterday morning, so I thought "great!". The guy at the front of the line was getting Smashing Pumpkins tickets (snicker), and the guy in front of me was there for DP/ELP/DT. So the guy asks for his "Deep Purple" tickets, gets them... moves along, no problem. They get to me and I also ask for "Deep Purple", best reserved floor seats. As the cashier is ringing them up, I grab the envelope to make sure the floor is actually reserved and not GA... I look at the seat assignment "lower loge", great! Then I glance down at the band name... "DEEP FOREST", fuck! So I said "whoa! wrong!"... luckily for me (but not for the people behind me), they didn't make me go to the end of the line, however it still took a good extra 5 minutes to get the correct tickets, at this point the tickets I have now say "upper loge", which is still not bad I guess, but I just wonder how bad I got screwed because they weren't paying attention. So there's my little horror story.
Oh btw, to those that went to the Fillmore box office... how long was the line?

It was a good weekend for music.
Yanni's show Saturday night: Outstanding. Email me if you want details, I'm tired of hearing how Yanni is off-topic here. One thing of interest to the keyboardists, though -- I sneaked a look at Yanni's keyboard setup and he had what appeared to be two Korg Trinity Pro Xs, as well as four Trinity Pros, in his racks. One Pro X and two Pros on each side. Now *that's* a lotta keyboard.
The Savatage show last night at the Outer Edge: Likewise outstanding, but in a different way. What a fantastic show this was -- despite the fact that the band was without the services of Al Pitrelli! I spoke with several of the guys before the show and they said that Al had had an equipment case drop on his arm the night before. They think his hand and arm might be fractured, but they weren't too sure -- in any case he was in no shape to play. (He was not in evidence, having been given a credit card and told "Go have some fun"). So they stayed up until 3 AM that morning reworking the setlist for stuff they could actually play without Al! Chris and Jeff said they stayed up even later after than that relearning some of the songs since they hadn't played them in so long (can you say "Taunting Cobras"?).
The opening acts were more or less clones of each other. Angry Young White Men heavy metal, along the lines of Korn, with cookie-monster growling vocals. A waste of time for most of the 'tage fans.
When Savatage hit the stage, though, that was all forgotten. From the opening notes of "The Ocean" and then ripping right into "Welcome", you could tell that they were enjoying the hell out of themselves. The crowd was noisy and the band was very appreciative, throwing gestures, pointing, soloing just inches away from the outstretched fingers of us in the front row, and generally putting on a fantastic show.
I don't recall the order of the setlist but it included the following:
The Ocean/Welcome Blackjack Guillotine Morning Sun Paragons of Innocence Complaint in the System (Veronica Guerin) Taunting Cobras (!!) Handful of Rain Edge of Thorns Jesus Saves Tonight He Grins Again Believe (very emotional) When the Crowds are Gone Gutter Ballet
and, as encores: The Wake of Magellan
then Hall of the Mountain King
The encore may have been a different track from TWOM; although they did play all those songs from TWOM, I don't recall what order they were played in. There may also have been one or two others I left out. I do remember that "Hall of the Mountain King" was the final encore, though.
After the show, the guys hung out outside, signing autographs, chatting, and being cool. All five of them were very personable and friendly, approachable as hell, and very appreciative that we had come out to see them.
Two bits of info I got from Jon that may interest you folk:
They will be returning for another tour of the U.S. after they hit Europe. They are hoping that Al will rejoin the lineup by then if his injury isn't too serious.
They are also working on the second Trans-Siberian Orchestra album. It will be released in October (they hope) and it is a continuation of the story of the first TSO album.
If Savatage comes ANYWHERE near you, GO SEE THEM. Great show, great guys. Worth the trip.

I'd have to agree with you that this is a little disturbing... I personally don't give a crap about the sound quality for the most part, as long as I'm getting a really kick-ass show. Some of my best Queensryche boots are shitty quality, but my God! The performances are amazing!
I think for the most part though, boot traders go for the quality. That's why you rarely see analog trades anymore. People are sticklers for the quality. And that's a matter of taste, I believe. If you'd rather end up with a crappy performance that sounds crystal clear blared at 100w, go right ahead. =)
