<<One quick note: I was jsut reading all those disparaging to women remarks on
the list, and I would like to say that women have as much right to enjoy
quality music as men. Contrary to popular belief, some females actually know
how to appreciate good music and get into it for that very reason.
Besides, the only kind of attention I've ever gotten from my musical tastes
was being treated as a chicken with three legs.
Does anyone care to enlighten me? Exactly what kind of attention are female
jammers suppposed to be after? Cuz if it's the kind I've been getting, I
would gladly have changed musical tastes if it weren't for my true and sincere
love for it.
And to all those female female bashers, how can you be such a traitor to your
own gender?
Just thought I'd put in my two cents.>>
hell, I made my mom put on ACOS when we were on a long car ride, and she
said she loved it. I would like to note that the other CDs in her changer
consisted of Carley Simon, Aretha Franklin, and Elton John, pretty cool that
she'd dig DT, huh?

O.K., keeping in mind that A LOT of people at the DT shows were
nauseatingly disrespectful of Big Wreck, and the fact that their lead
singer didn't help their case much by being rather confrontational:
I have just got to say that 'In Loving Memory Of...' is one incredible
album - I listen to the thing pretty constantly. Granted, it's not for
everyone, but if your tastes are all over the map (as mine are), man, I
don't see how you can go wrong with this one. Really solid playing, great
grooves, great songwriting. Of course, they'll probably make two albums
and disappear off the face of the Earth, since, as the Beard would say,
'Crap is king', but I'm seriously into them.

Hey Jammers...need a bit of friendly advice, if you can oblige.
Me and a friend of mine are planning on going to the DP/ELP/DT Jones Beach
show on August 9th. Before I buy tickets online, I want to find out some
stuff about the venue. I've never been there, and want to get the best space
for my money!! Thing is this: we're there for DT, so we're not going to
purchase the expensive tickets. We'll probably leave after they play, to beat
the crowd out of there, and get home at a somewhat humane hour. We're
shooting for the 15 dollar tickets, which are listed as
-any area for this price
-standing room only
-mezzanine
We don't want to be ass-far away from the stage. I don't know what the fuck
any area for this price means, and whether you can get something really sweet
with that selection, or the crappiest part of the place. What is best to go
for? Is standing room in a good-awful section of the place, behind people who
have seats? Anyone who's been there, please let me know. It would be MUCH
appreciated.

Hey folks:
I want to get your opinion on what a pro-shot video is. I was recently
reading the Rush newsgroup and this guy had a list of Rush videos
available. One of them (the Philly show of the TFE tour...11/6/96) was
listed as a pro-shot. I asked him many times if it really was a pro-shot
because I had never heard of this one before. He told me yes and I sent
him a money order.
I got the video today and to me, it was not a pro-shot. It was not
anything like the Auburn Hills show (3/22/94) or the DT PPV show
(1/24/95). He claims it is a pro-shot because more than one camera was
used and it was done by professionals. And he's refusing to give me my
money back.
I just wanted to get your opinions before I argue with this dolt some
more.
Thanks,
Brandon

opening (saying like - who are these guys???).

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded to my questions
about the keyboards and Cd's. I haven't had a chance to go through all
the info yet because a very good friend of mine is in the hospital
because of a heart attack and stroke. So I've been trying to balance my
usual routines with seeing what I could do for his situation.
I found all the CD's except the Gun CD. And yes, the CDNOW.COM site
helped tremendously.
Thanks,
Erik.

Well . . . I've had it for about three weeks and only listened to it four times, so I'm not the most qualified to review it, but I'll try -
Paul Gilbert indeed kicks booty when he cuts loose on guitar, but that doesn't happen near enough on this disc. Ten of the twelve songs feature Paul's rather soft vocals, and while he's a competent singer, he sure won't scorch your undies like KJLB does.
All the songs, except one, are between 1:56 and 4:56 long. Fully half of the songs sound rather "Beatle-esque", with tight harmonies, jangly guitars, tambourines, and poppy melodies that are a little too "perfect". I used to really enjoy this kind of music, but, well, it sure ain't prog. A couple of the songs don't have a lead break at all - kinda weird for an album by a noted "axeman" like Gilbert.
One standout is "The Jig", an acoustic version of a J.S. Bach melody that is performed very impressively. "Bumblebee" (no relation to the recently discussed "Flight of . . .") is a 70-ish kick-ass rock tune which unfortunately fades out just when it gets interesting, as does "Double Trouble", another rocker that's just too short. "Streetlights" is a smoky, 6/8 blues tune with a shreddin' solo that seems a little out-of-place. Still, this is probably my favorite cut on the CD, one reason being that Paul seems to put a little more emotion into the vocals.
You guitarists out there should like the last track, "The Jam", which seems to be exactly that - a 19:35 long studio jam, which features Paul tearin' it up and trading licks with Bruce Bouillet. This one fades IN (sure sign of a real jam). Main problem with this tune - it gets more than a little tedious, since the bass line never changes, and the pattern is, frankly, dull - it's I - I - I - V for over 19 minutes, fer Ged's sake! There is a double-time change-up, but not 'til 10:45 or so, and then it's just the drums changing - the bass line plods along, exactly the same. At 11:45 it's back to the original tempo - then two minutes later back to double-time, and STILL the bass line is unchanged! Sorry, but I think that falls somewhat short of imaginative. Now, if you're here for the shredding, you're gonna love this tune anyway, cuz Paul does plenty of that. I really like the Robin Trower-influenced licks heard in several places, and the "loosy-goosy" bends interspersed among the 64th notes, but then it ends - and the ending sux. IMO, that is.
This one might make it back into the CD-changer a few times, but it's not too likely to enjoy an extended stay. However, if you're a student of guitar technique, you could do much worse than to study "The Jam". Steal these licks, and be revered!
There ya go - my first review - shit, that's too much work for an old dude. Hope somebody got something out of it . . .
Larry
Obligatory DTC - uhh, . . . um, JP might like the solos . . .
