One quick note: I was jsut reading all those disparaging to women remarks on
the list, and I would like to say that women have as much right to enjoy
quality music as men. Contrary to popular belief, some females actually know
how to appreciate good music and get into it for that very reason.
Besides, the only kind of attention I've ever gotten from my musical tastes
was being treated as a chicken with three legs.
Does anyone care to enlighten me? Exactly what kind of attention are female
jammers suppposed to be after? Cuz if it's the kind I've been getting, I
would gladly have changed musical tastes if it weren't for my true and sincere
love for it.
And to all those female female bashers, how can you be such a traitor to your
own gender?
Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

I would like to complain about that last letter complaining about the ytsejam not being filled with complaints about people complaining about others complaining about the lack of DTC. I think there are too many people complaining about other people not complaining enough on the web today. Do you think this great nation would have conquered those commie bastards if we had people complaining all the time? Of course not. Nor would we have the genius that is MTV.
I would also like to complain about the lack of big boobs in the letter, especially as it mentioned women in prog rock. If you are going to mention big boobs and prog rock in the same post, I want to see tits jiggling to 13/4. Give the public what it wants.
I would also like to complain about the lack of big boobs in my sweater. If members of the posting public are going to pay for expensive plastic surgery, the least they deserve is results.
Sincerely, Brigadier Smith-Smythe (Mrs.)
P.S. I would also like to complain about any followups to this post.

Someone posted a few CDs they were considering buying at Laser's Edge and wanted top-two recommendations .....
Of the list, I'd recommend Superior's Behind and Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy. Both are in my short-list of best new prog I've discovered in the last two years, both are highly recomended by Ken Golden of Laser's Edge, and besides, a lot of people think Eternity-X, uh..... Aren't That Good. :)
For those who are into hard/heavy/death/thrash stuff, I help out at a radio show here at Georgia Tech, Friday evenings from 10pm - 2am US Eastern time. It's not -my- show, but I can sometimes play stuff if it's heavy. We are the station's most-listened to show, and WREK-FM is one of the nation's largest college stations (40 or 50Kw), so it's kinda cool. Stuff I've played recently include Cynic, DT's cover of "Damage Inc." from the fan club CD, Superior "Hades," Strapping Young Lad, Fates Warning, Clawfinger (thanks, Bernd!), Opeth, Pan-thy-Monium and Liquid Tension Experiment "Paradigm Shift." Never a dull moment in between the GWAR, Pantera, Slayer and Misfits. :)

oops, forgot to mention the RealAudio feed for the station. :) It's at http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/wrek/ . In the Atlanta area the station is at 91.1 FM. Sometimes you'll hear me in the background, and very occasionally, up front behind the console. :)
NDTC: For those who like to go "ooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh," Devin Townsend's Strapping Young Lad has a new live CD out, recorded in Melbourne Australia. Just played some (the station got a promo copy, huzzah :)). Also includes two unreleased studio tracks.

Double album? DOUBLE album?
]From what I've heard and seen, Portnoy is a detail maniac. He probably scribbles down notes about every show when he gets back on the bus. I'd be willing to bet that he's got a journal or notebook specifically for that purpose. With this in mind, he can probably formulate a list of the best songs (or damn good overall shows) based on performance and sound quality. And even if he doesn't have it all written down, he's got two other ways of compiling the best of the best: (1) his memory, which never forgets anything including the color of the buttons on your shirt the last time he saw you, and (2) he's got something like five or six shows on DAT, which is more than enough source material to put together a live disc...wait, was that six shows on DAT or six hundred? Six thousand? 6.02x10^23?
But about this "double" word. The band could release a double-disc live album, available to the general public, sure...
But then...
THEN...
The special "fans only" 10-DISC BOX SET! Featuring great voices of the past such as CHARLIE DOMINICI and CHRIS COLLINS! A retrospective work covering a DECADE OF SPLENDIFEROUS PROGGING! The fast keyboard solos Kevin Moore used to do before he got TESTICULAR CANCER! Six straight tracks of Portnoy solos all mixed together for NO STOPS, BABY! Drum solos from every other year, ONE ON EACH DISC! A disc of seventy-five minutes of EVERY INSTRUMENTAL THEY'VE EVER PLAYED! Digitally-mastered examples of JOHN MYUNG TALKING! A disc of the ever- spicy COVER TUNES! (ALL NINETY OF THEM!) Bonus tracks featuring NICKY LEMONS! Ahh, the possibilities are endless...
*sigh* It's not like I wouldn't give Portnoy $50 straight across for a five- disc "History of Dream Theater" master-blaster box set... Dang that'd be a ton of work for him... Someone should send this post to Portnoy... Wait a minute, ARE YOU READING THIS, SPITMAN?? Yeah?? Well this time howabout keeping that part after "Damage Inc." where you blurt out "That Lars is a motherfucker!" ;)

Hello, Just wanted to let you all know that if all goes well, by the end of today I should have that JS I've been foaming about... YAY!!!! Depends on what they give me for my trades. Shitty thing is that I have to drive from Springfield, MA to Hartford, CT up to Southbridge, MA over to Agawam, MA and back down to Hartford!!! (Also have to stop in at Enfield for Tom) All between 10am and 6pm. But is it worth it? You'll know this time tomorrow... Hey! I've been meaning to ask: anyone have the Paul Gilbert solo CD, King of Clubs? How is it? I see Bruce Bouillet had some involvement so is it a band album with vocals, etc., or just instrumental? Considering Mr. Big was one of my favorites in the "hair" era, I'm definitely intrigued.

Hey,

Dude, our own John Petrucci does it live (or, at least he did it at Irving Plaza, NY). Nuno's "Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee," should also not be confused with his "Bumble Bee (Crash Landing)"-- they're surprisingly, very different songs, with the latter being very different from the classical "Flight of the Bumblebee."
Also, Dream Theater's not still going around with "Full on the Mouth," are they? If you ask me, those guys should be thrown back into whatever hole they crawled out of. They're "Full" of something, but it's not "on the mouth."

I just got a tape of the Dream Theater gig in Atlanta in December 16, 1997, full show, recordings from soundboard. They guy who sent me it said that he got it from someone who has it on CD-R. Do someone here know how I can get this on CD-R?? I can trade, buy, or whatevere for it!
These recordings really kick ass. I just want the CD because it has two recordings defect, probably caused because the CD jumped some seconds of Voices while recording my friend's tape. It sometimes happens when people listen to their CDs too much loud.
Anyway, I am hoping some help for finding this CD

Since the oh-so-eloquent Bafu has introduced Atlas Shrugged (a book which I have just completed reading) to the Jam, I was wondering... has John Myung read it? Yes, I know, this seems like a weird question, but there's this one section of the book where Hank Rearden "has no time for pain, no energy for anger", and later walks with "confident self-control".
The similarities were too much for me to pass up... I guess I'm just hungering for some YtseTrivia... :)

Here's what he says: "Our main goal as a band was to be on the cover of The Island Ear, so our parents would finally think we're legit!" Main goal?
