I Have just recently bought the album, and I must say,
    IT'S BLODDY EXCELLENT.
To those complaining about the drop in the JAM, come on that's nothing,
everone who has bought and bootleg knows what drop is.
By the why, Mr. P: I'm totally for the live album, and the video.
Especally since I missed the consert i Norway, you should com eback more
often. Like you tour america all the time, how about an norwegian tour?

Well, the DC/Baltimore locals will be there.(Pat? Kevin? Steve Z.? Kez?
Maybe Bafu, even?) There'll be a lot of cool bands - even Division, although
we don't fit into the "cool" category... :)

Seriously, I had a blast last year, made a lot of new friends, heard some
great music, and spent $200 on CDs...

What more could you want on a weekend? :)

The bands I know of that are playing:

    Symphony X
    Mystic Force
    Mercury Rising
    Division
    Digital Ruin
    Aztec Jade
    The Quiet Room
    Delusion
I think Vicious Rumors and Enertia are playing again, too.

    You're welcome. :)

The simple answer is "it's worth whatever the person who's buying is
willing to pay for it" or "it's worth whatever the person who's selling is
willing to sell it for". Personally I have always found discussions of
"what something's worth" to be kind of ridiculous. I have thousands of
comic books. Some of them are "worth" hundreds of dollars according to the
Overstreet Price Guide, but I hardly ever read them myself. Others are
worth only their face value, but I read them to tatters and wouldn't part
with them for any price. They're worth more to me.

Same goes for CDs. If you're looking to buy a CD and find one you want,
but the seller wants more than you're willing to pay, it's worth more to
him than it is to you.

If you are willing to sell the CD at $100, do so. He's willing to buy it
at that price, and you could make yourself a pretty penny on something
    that's essentially just a curiosity.

    Ta,
    Phil

I don't understand this reasoning at all. Why not stick around and check
out ELP and DP? Both of these bands are influences to DT, so why not see
what they are all about if you don't know anything about them? Even if
you dont like their studio work, a lot of bands are much much better
live. Deep Purple are one of the early pioneers of metal and ELP is one
of the pioneers for progressive music. I would love for the chance to
see these 3 bands but alas the tour isn't (currently) coming to the DC
    area for some unknown reason.

    > me while listening to him, is how he gets his voice so high and clear?? > Is this just vocal training that anyone could do and manage to get that > high or he is just very very lucky??

It's a combination of both. Some musicians believe in "born musicians" and prodigies and things like that <and they do exist: Tori Amos, Jordan Rudess, etc.>. The truth is there are VERY few "born" singers, unless they're Italian. By born singers I mean people who have natural, instinctive vocal technique. I, however, believe that TO A CERTAIN EXTENT anyone can learn how to sing well <or play an instrument well, or do math well>. It all depends upon training and PRACTICE.

However, as much as technique can be learned, singers also need to be born with a good instrument. James's VOICE itself is the biggest part of the magic.

    > The control he has over his voice > amazes me alot of the time so if anyone here can give me insights into > where and how he gets that amazing vibrato and the clearness plus > highness in his voice, well, I will be thankful, and I'll be able to > get some sleep tonight maybe ;)

Vibrato must be practiced in order to get it going, but one it does it will come so naturally that you will have to concentrate to NOT get the vibrato. Vibrato is a by-product of healthy vocal tone, as is the clarity. While it is true that you can build and improve your range, that is another thing that you are just born with. If you're an alto don't try to make yourself a aoprano and if you're a bass don't try to make yourself a tenor. Find what you are and be that.

Read books <just be careful because no one ever learned to sing by reading a book>, take lessons, practice, join a church or school choir. These are the best ways to improve your voice. I am a classically trained singer and I still say that ANYONE can learn to sing rather well.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? <anyone, anyone...>

I don't know if this has been mentioned before (I don't think it has), but is the Stu Hamm version of 'Peanuts' available in tablature? If anyone has any info on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

And speaking of bass, I'm almost hesitant to mention this, but I played one of the best basses I've ever played last night. It was... a Squire Jazz. And it friggin' COOKED. So I traded the kid my Ibanez SR305 for it straight up. Anyone else ever run into this? A lame, cheap-ass company known for it's slip-shod production making an instrument that you simply can't live without?

I respected Merlo's decision, and figured Gabbo would ask me for help if/when he needed it. Besides, I don't think it'd be a good idea to have two guys working on one document.

I do try to help out by sending Gabbo relevant info for the FAQ, if I happen to come across it... For instance, Rich Kern (he did the programming on "Space-Dye Vest") got credited for the vocals on the "Wanted Dead Or Alive" demo... But according to Rich that was actually Chris Collins. Things like that...

That reminds me... A coupla years ago I contributed some info to the FAQ that to date hasn't been confirmed yet. And all it would take is for someone to watch two pretty good movies, to prove me right. It'd be cool if one of you guys could rent them and watch them before Gabbo's new version. :)) Here's the info :

    Ok, back to Ptacek...

    > Some people, like Itchy, get an inordinate, and inappropriate amount > of pleasure out of that kind of work.

Someone recently asked me why I put so much time and effort into maintaining UACM. Told him it's fun to find out just how far you can get with a fan page... You know, making sure you always have the latest info before everyone else... Getting compliments from (ex-)band members... Being able to help fellow fans out with the latest info about tour dates and upcoming releases... The actual HTML coding is a VERY small part of what it takes to run UACM...

I tend to compare it to maintaining a FAQ, *live* and on a daily basis with not much room for error, seeing as UACM gets over 600 visitors a day. It can be very exciting in an odd sorta way. :-) Hope this explains the "inappropriate amount of pleasure" thing.

Now if I could only explain why my paragraphes are so damn neat. > All this being said, I think Gabbo HAS updated the faq recently...

Yup, saw a preview two or three weeks ago... Let's just wait and see what Gabbo comes up with, instead of giving him shit for not knocking out an update because people expect a new version... If it takes a few weeks more to make the FAQ even better, so be it.
