Hey doods,
Well I bet all you homeboys out there thought that Liquid Tension
Experiment was the best thing since sliced bread and the dopest
instrumental progressive CD ever? Well I think you may be proven wrong. It
seems a few guys by the names of Scott Henderson, Steve Smith, and Victor
Wooten decided to jump on the band-wagon and put together a cd by the name
of Vital Tech Tones. These guys have more of a fusion background than our
pals in DT and it shows. The energy level is high, the improv is
spectacular, and the tunes are total romps. No offense to prog musicians,
but anybody who thinks that 3 Minute Warning is great improv has not heard
some real jazz musicians doing some hardcore jamming and improvisation. I'm
in the process of making an MP3 now that I'll put on Mosh's FTP. I had to
choose a short song so it's not the best cut on the cd but you'll get the
idea from this cut. Check it out....

If you feel like building a relationship of trust, go to
http://cayman.ebay.com/ and type in Korg as your keyword. I just saw a used
Korg X3 with a case for sale on there for $500. Also have seem a Kurzweil
K2000 for $800. They occasionally have good used keyboards for cheap. I
saw a Dw-8000 on there once for $250. Makes me wish I wasn't in a debt

For anyone who doesn't know, Chris Degarmo (who wrote 90% of Queensryche's
material) left the band in Feburary. The band was then dropped from
Capitol (which it was moved to after it left EMI when EMI folded), and
will put an album out written by the other guys with a new second
guitarist later this year, or early next year.

Interesting point. I know Mying has the capability, but Victor Wooten gets to show off more. Bela is pretty cool about giving the other Flecktones a chance to shine at their respective instruments. It seems that in DT only Petrucci and Portnoy get to shine. Moreso with Petrucci.

Michael Kizer: (and all other jammers with an interest in Fates Warning) Thanks for the Fates suggestions. I was looking at No Exit & Inside out at the local CD store, I had to bypass them at the time because I already had five CD's in my hands. (One was Fates PS) The more I listen to Ray Alder's vocals the more hooked I get, his vocal control is staggering. It's fairly obvious that Mr. Zonder enjoys what he's doing, his work in APSOG part IV (and in just about in everything else) is wonderful. The lyrical and music writing abilities of Jim Matheos is top tier. Ah, by the way... I really like this band :) About the only things I can critique are the engineer that mixed some of the tracks, is he going deaf? The other thing that annoys me is "some" sections of APSOG gets repetitious, but overall the album is great. Thanks again all...... Really!
OK, I've tossed this name out here twice with NO response, WTF nobody has anything to say about Aldo Nova?

Actually, as far as radio labels go 'progressive' is usually used for the more 'adult alternative.' The mellow, often acoustic stuff...think, oh, Shawn Colvin, or the Jayhawks. As opposed to the 'grunge' alternative.
Speaking of, has anyone else noticed that 'alternative' has just become a big catch-all phrase that doesn't mean jack shit anymore? When you lump Nirvana and Ben Folds Five together, something is fucked.

If you will, nobody knows. Just try. If you can find it, you just found it. If you can't, then until that moment you couldn't. :-)
Seriously, though, regarding how much you would pay for it, well, I think that you may find it for approximately $25 bucks if you're lucky.
BTW, the list has been very slow in relaying the messages from posters and the excuse is that Charone is busy. What if someone else applied for the duty of moderator, in case he's willing to "abdicate" from such a position, of course?

You don't want what Derek has yet. Unless you want to spend $2400 or more. The Korg trinity may sound great, but it is not for the faint of heart. First, you have to determine what you want to spend. If you only have $1500, you can't buy a board for $2500. So, if you have a budget of about $1500 or less, consider something like the Roland xp60, Korg N series. You can also look for used gear. You can get yesterdays power workstations for what you would pay for an entry level keyboard. However, before I can really recommend to you a keyboard, you need to tell me more. What kind of music do you want to do with it? Will you be in a band situation? Do you want a sequencer? A sequencer will let you do all band parts by yourself. Techno and club people love them. Are you looking for realistic sounds? Keyboards fall intoseveral categories, the sample playback machines that play back sounds of realistic instruments, samplers that will let you record your own sounds if you know what youare doing, and virtual analog keyboards that sound like the old style keyboards of the 80s and 70s and are designed for techno heads and people who love that kind of sound. Again, if you want a basic keyboard, check out the Roland xp60. It is very expandable, and powerful, probably doesn't cost too much, and sound great. If you have more money, look into the Yamaha ex5, Korg Trinity or Ensoniq ZR76. However, these keyboards will cost over $2000. If you need more help or can give me any more clues, email me in private.
