Do you consider Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets
the best three albums ever made? Is these your favorite Metallica
albums? Do you hate new Metallica? Have you been bored with
everything that they have done since AJFA? Do you think that they've
    lost their edge?

If the answer to any of these is yes, then Iced Earth might be the band
    for you.

Iced Earth captures all the speed, intensity, and raw integrity of early
Metallica and mixes it with superb musicianship and excellent vocals.
The guitar work on their CDs is phenomenal, with rhythmic riff-work
that surpasses Hetfield. The rotating drummer position has always been
filled with guys who take Lars' brutal, assaulting style and combine it
with the ability to actually play double bass. The vocals are very
    rough,
very heavy, and very powerful , but nowhere near the cookie-monster
growlings of death metal. The lyrics are equally brutal and violent -
    not
for the faint of heart. I would describe their compositional style as
    classic
metal influenced American power metal; they are really only mildly
    progressive.

I recommend Burnt Offerings, The Dark Saga, and Days of Purgatory very
highly. Night of the Stormrider and the self-titled debut are decent,
but suffer from mediocre vocals and poor production.

Serious metal heads check them out at http://www.icedearth.com.

Um gee maybe it had something to do with the label going under shortly
after the album came out. That's why Sign of the Times was huge on radio
but the album didn't sell crap; they suddenly had no more promotion. And
to my knowledge the Virgin thing was never official; after EMI's demise
they received several offers (according to them anyway) but haven't signed
yet; they're contemplating starting their own label (like someone already
said in here). /me waits with high hopes and baited breath for the new
    album...
BTW that sucks about Nick Menza, wow...

No, it was Depths of Hell -- or whatever one that the lyrics *weren't* written by IE. Suckage for lyrics, but the music was repetitive. ^_^ I Died For You is my fav song as well (followed closely by the Huntress of Hunter or whatever Track 4 is called -- I've been away from it too long)

    The latest Mike Bahr drivel:

    >Oh, nice double standard there, Ryan. Real nice. Bogie can be late on >shit and nobody gives him a second thought, but if Mike Bahr is late, >let the flogging begin!

Please Mike, spare us your put-upon whining. You're by FAR the least reliable boot dealer in this particular market (DT, Rush, etc) and apparently Skadz has had some first-hand problems with you. He's allowed to post his personal opinions as much as anyone else. Note that he said "(same goes for anyone else selling merch)" when writing on this topic. You were singled out because it seems every week or so at least one person has to go through the public forum just to get his email replied to. Plus, when Bogie (from what I've been told) is late on an order, we're talking a month - not a year+. Slight difference there...

    >What would you all rather I do, shoot the shit with you via e-mail, >or fulfill your order?

You're so full of shit it's unbelievable. And you call Skadz hypocritical. People have commented when you write to the Jam that you should be making CDs instead of posting. You've always asserted that writing email/posting doesn't affect your CD burning because you have multiple computers and not all of them make CDs. Now you're coming back and saying that if you read/write email your production will be slowed down? I've always been _far_ more than fair with you Bahr, and used to be one of your biggest supporters on the 'Jam, but even after I got my order last week (and only 17 months after I ordered too!) your constant lying and whining about how persecurted you are still bothers me.

Just think - if you actually got your CDs out the door in even a somewhat reasonably timely fashion you wouldn't have to deal with all this. People don't care about your personal problems. People don't care about excuses. People want the product they paid for months ago and haven't seen yet. And since they haven't seen them yet they want some sort of status report. Is it gonna be a week, a month, a year and a half? There's another way to deal with this problem on the 'Jam - answer your damned emails.

I apologize for this post since I've contributed way too much to Bahr-flaming wars in the past (it wont happen again), but I'll tell you this - I couldn't get him to answer my private emails for months but when I started talking about it in a public forum I got a reply in a damned hurry. Only on the third time did I actually get my CDs, but it's been the most effective (and only) way I have had to get this clown to answer me. Caveat emptor.

(I wish I had quoted that part) "I know both are late, but > I'll vouch for Bogie, and fuck that asshole Mike Bahr".

Quit playing the martyr, Mike. Read Skadz's post again, you must have missed the part that said "This is not the get in touch with Mike Bahr and publicly put him down forum". Skadz is trying to keep the "so and so, mail me" stuff to a minimum. He said nothing about your lateness and he made no insults to you. Last line: "Same goes for anyone else selling merch". Yes, that includes Bogie as well.

    > But late is late. If you're gonna let it slide for Nick, that's fine, > but you gotta let it slide for me, AND Ryan W., and John D., etc etc > etc. or else you're just being a hypocritical bastard. And you know > better than that.

Maybe he *is* letting it slide for you too. He said nothing *about* lateness in his remarks about you. Here's the relevant stuff about Bogie:

    > eigth, bogie. (/me watches nick cringe) I can vouch for this > kid until I am blue in the face. I know he is late on some shipments > right now, but all the reasons he is giving people are completely > true. I know he dissed going out with me on a number of occasions because > of finals and stuff, so don't worry, he isn't stiffing you, he is > working on it as quickly as he can.

So, when we paraphrase the remarks about you and the ones about Bogie, we get the following.

Mike: "Don't use the 'jam to get in touch with Mike, this isn't the place."

Bogie: "He's late with some stuff, true, but give him a chance."

I fail to see how the two are related; perhaps somebody can enlighten me.

For the record: I've dealt with Mike Bahr once. I got my discs within a month. I'm fine with his service and his product quality. But I too am getting sick of seeing people mail the 'jam and say that Mike Bahr won't answer their emails, and I'm getting more sick of Mike taking offense at remarks that weren't intended to be offensive.

In addition to 20 North American dates, the band are playing a one-off "semi-acoustic" Fan Club-only gig of old, new and cover tunes in Rotterdam and a special 2 set, 3 hour-plus gig in Paris, both of which will be recorded by Kevin Shirley for a new live album and possible home video for release in the fall. --------

To the lynx basher, I have to publicly say this. You may knock text only pagesm, but to some of us, we like text only pages. They load faster. First and foremost. Also, as a blind person, and there is another blind person on this list who can back me up, lynx sometimes is our only option. Yeah, it doesn't support frames, but I have used frames pages anyway. Internet explorer does not work well for the blind, yet. Netscape is totally out of the question. So, at least for me, lynx is my only option. I use windows 95 with speech access, meaning the computer reads to me. The graphics you love so much will isolate a small, but viable segment of the world. Blind people deserve access, too. So take your frames, dhtml, graphics and other nice goodies, and fuck them. I hate people with your mindset. These are the people who believe that everything should be associated with pictures because we are too lazy to read. Or maybe we can't read because the school system pushed us through. I can read, I rad braille, and I love to read. It is sometimes the only option I have. It is bad enough that I don't have the access to printed material that I would like. Now, I gota deal with graphics that make no sense. Lynx may be obsolete, but it never crashes. Can you say that about your precious graphical multimedia browsers? i can't. Long live Lynx.

    first:

about this debate about lynx support vs. frames, java, etc... i write and maintain a rush web page, and i feel it's important to be able to support the people who are still using lynx or netscape 1.0 for example. thus, i have two pages: one with frames and tables (but no java because i think most java is just for the "gimmick" factor), and one "barebones." i believe, since the web is an OPEN medium, that it is important to accomadate all browsers, platforms, or creeds. I am an equal opportunity web author.

    no more political correctness...

    awake:

i never really got into this album until this morning, when i had an epiphany with it: it kicks ass! now i can safely say i like all dt albums:

IaW: MASTERPIECE (except that cheesy song with the musak) Awake: almost as good, love Caught in a Web, Erotomania, Voices, The Mirror, Lie, Scarred, Space-Dye Vest aCoS: another personal favorite--amazing! FII: it's not as bad as everyone says; i can dig most of it, especially Lines in the Sand...
