Who said anything about making this a better place? :) But Korg is right.
I, of all people, have a horrific tendency to fly off the handle
(especially writing posts at 8am). Sorry for the flip nature of my
mini-filibuster. Won't happen again... (*yeah, right*)
As for legit topics, how's this one: all you guitar freaks (like me) out
there! Recommend for me a rack processor with the following qualities:
modulation, Intelligent pitch shifting, delay, reverb, and maybe
compression and gate. Don't care too much about the verb as I hate reverb,
but I'd like to have the mods on separate channels (phaser, flange,
chorus). MUST BE MIDI and under $500 (new or used). I'm biting on the
Alesis Midiverb IV. Any opinions. Oh, and Petrucci plays guitar, so this
could be considered relevant. :)

If you include the serial number, you can even find out where the guitar was made, who

So I'm listening to the old demo of 'Living in Fear' back when D.D. was
Chaos Theory, and I'm thinking, 'man, this is really good, but good God,
get that drummer off of crack!' The rest of the band sounds pretty
convinced they're in a world-class prog metal band, and he's thinking he's
in some cheesy speed metal group, playing fills like EVERY 5 seconds!!!!!
Please tell me the near-finished product is not like this. 50% of playing
is knowing when NOT to play, right?

For you Damon, if you are a Macintosh user there is a software that can
change an image to text files when you scan some text from books. I forget
the name of the software but if you need it I will ask it from my friend.
I have some hard time to read these prog books because English is not my
native language. Oh well...

I thought for a while that maybe it was just me, but I know for a
fact that others of you out there listen to Tangerine Dream, because the
bands poll that "Under A Cyber Moon" held at the end of 1997 showed
Tangerine Dream as having 7 points. So I know at least ONE other person
has experienced the total magic of that band. I gave them 5 of those
points and I'm sure some of you have heard this group but don't consider
them a top-5 band. What really pains me is to realize that you most have
NOT heard of them. Let me tell you: They're very electronic and very
rocking with their guitars, especially for a "New-Age" band. They are
tied with DT as my favorite band ever, and I consider them the
precursors of a style movement I call "Electric Fusion Music". I turn 18
on August 29, and a drummer. Within a year from now I plan to have a
band started, where we combine the elements of "New-Age", with
electronic pan-flutes, etc., with hard-core progressive metal, and a
little KMFDM influence. Believe me, the result is a pure, beautiful,
truly rocking-out form of music. We are the band that will wake people
up, and truly make a difference. Right now the only for-sure members are
me and a guy named Chris Brown, 16 on August 6. We need others with the
same vision. You don't need to be really experienced YET, but ready to
kick ass in the future. We expect our first album to hit stores around
2003-4. So we have time.
Okay, besides forming our E.F.M. band (I'll tell you the proposed
name if you write), we desperately want to meet other friends who know
Tangerine Dream, or other stuff like what I was mentioning, or are
simply interested... And I feel like I HAVE to know who voted for them,
and who else listens to them. So PLEASE respond to this!!! But you have

Well, last night I had written a long, drawn out post about this blind issue, but I never sent it. Good thing. It has sifted through, and Paul pretty much hit the nail on the head with his post. Ive gotten the impression over the years that Damon looks for sympathy when he mentions his blindness in a thread where I consider it irrelavant. He has made it clear that is not his intention, and I accept that. I respect him a lot for his efforts, cuz Im not sure I could or would handle that affliction as well. So lets just chalk it up as a misunderstanding due to the inability for ANYONE to communicate effectively through this godforsaken medium.

He sees more than all of us? Possibly. But I havent read any ground shattering philisophical commentary from him to make me think that. I do think it is pretty cool that he refuses to let his disability affect his use of a computer. When I first read about Damon's lack of eyesight, I was impressed that he could put up with sifting through a Ytsejam without being able to see it. But then I kept reading about his blindness. And kept reading about it. And to me, that comes across as Damon saying "hey man, Im blind" and expecting the response "Wow, that is so amazing that you refuse to let it stop you" over and over again. That wasnt his intention, so I perceived him incorrectly. But at least one other person seemed to take my view, so Im not completely out in left field. I dont want to think "Damon...Oh yeah, the blind guy." I would rather know the guy from reading things that reflect his personality and character. And I dont think blindness reflects either of those. I could be wrong.

Went to the CompUSA Windows 98 promotion at midnight last night, and got myself a $10 copy of Starcraft...It seems like Warcraft II on steroids. Not a bad thing. Couldnt get the $98 266Mhz Celeron computer system with monitor and printer (no typo, for the first person in line), but Im happy. Or better yet, how about also releasing the new live album in the 5.1 channel mode? The live concert ambience would sound great with a pair of rear speakers..add some delay, and life would be great. Firstly, I want to start out, John, by saying that you shouldn't decline a spanking from a woman. What is wrong with you? :) Now, onto the serious stuff. I am sorry I dragged a blindness thread into the jam. i am sorry I dragged a lynx vs graphics browsers into the jam. However, saying that my blindness is not a part of who I am is insane. My blindness is a part of me and defines the person I am. When you have lost one sens it changes perspectives. The little bit of vission I do have, I use to the fulles. I appreciate the things I can see. I don't value physical features as much as others, I see people for who they truely are. i a not racist or prejudiced as a person who has sight may be. Granted there may be blind racists out there, but I never heard of one. I don't understand the female body like most men do. When guys ogle a girl, I feel left out. When I go to Dream Theater concertsj, I can't tell the stage setup, or what the band is doing on stage. I can't see MP thrashing his drums, or JP killing the guitar. I definitely can't appreciate Derek's keyboard setup or the lava lamps. Nor can I look out for the moshers. I lose a bit of the concert experience. However, I have trained my ear musically from playing an instrument and can gain a little bit of detail from the mix than the rest of you. This has shaped the way I think and feel about things. I envy you all for the visual side of concerts. For me, I am just happy if I can clearly hear the show. I can't experience Rush light shows and screen projections. I can't appreciate Keith Emerson stabbing his organ with daggers. See what you all get to see while I go blindly by? You all can multitask in windows and use any web site you want. i can't even get irc down right in windows. I can't run more than one window at once, unless I minimize all others. I can't even use the sequencer on my keyboard. Am I asking for your pity? No. I have found ways around most things and am working on the things I can't figure out myself. And things like the concerts and driving, I have learned to accept. I have not let my handicap beat me and I never will. I will function in society. I will get my degree in music recording and be a viable force in music. But that's not why I wrote this. this is not therapy. This is to say that a person can't tell me that my blindness is not a part of me. It is just as much a part of me as your sight is a part of you. yes, it is an external thing, but it's not like having zits. Zits don't affect a person's functionalyty. I don't think this is the place to get philosophical, but if you want me to, ask me. I will be glad to waste some more bandwidth although Skadz may start getting just a bit pissed off. :) Yes, I took up a whole jam with posts. I sincerely appologize. Quite frankly, I don't enjoy talking about this every day. After a while, one gets sick of the questions, especially since I get them daily for the last 24 years of my life. Hi gang. Long-ass time no post, or read, or nothin'. Working 9 hours a day tends to have that effect, especially when you work somewhere where you can't read e-mail. Oh, well.
Anyway, I finally decided to write the Linux equivalent of CaseLinr for windoze. It's called jcard. You don't need to be running X Windows to use it. Just unzip it, untar it, and type jcard. It creates a file called jcard.ps that you can rename, or print and delete, or whatever.
If you're going to use it, *please* let me know what you think, so that later versions can be even better. You can get it at http://www.cs.wm.edu/~cmerlo/jcard.tgz. Enjoy!

I'll bet it's either the BN or PP though. Without a picture I can't identify the exact color because that group is so similar, but that narrows it down a little according to the axe you described.
