I deleted the 'jam already, but someone pointed out that "S.O.S." on DAFR
was actually "Sun Orange Small" in desguise. First off, I'm a bit
dissapointed, as I figured that to be an ABBA cover, and was salivating at
the thought of hearing Kev do vocals for that particular track. Secondly,
this kicks ass. On the demos, SOS was right up there with "Blanket..."
and "Roll Away the Stone" for me. Unfortunately, I can't review the album
yet, since I haven't gotten it yet. Soon, dammit, soon.
In other news, I recently realized that I had 4 consecutive Fates Warning
CDs (I actually had already realized this part) and they have 4 different
line-ups. Each pair of consecutive albums have 4 people in common, but
not the fifth. In addition, "Sun Orange Small" was song 4 from the
"Really Wet Songs" demos. And what number does "Moore" rhyme with?
Coincidences?
Wait, that wasn't what I was gonna say. Umm... well, I was gonna ask, is
this a set thing for Fatez? To keep each album fresh and all, replace one
of the band per album? Did this continue? Did it happen before these
albums?

Now that whole thing is messed up. But hell I love Tall Stories and that
guy would fit in really well. Now if KJLB (sounds like a radio station
don't it) tried out I think he'd do pretty good. But most Journey songs are
sustained in such a high register for so long that I doubt James could
weather the ordeal for a whole show. The thing that loses me is...
What the hell happened to Steve Perry?
Journey without Steve Perry to me is like vomit without that caustic yet
candidly tangy aftertaste.
How about QR and Journey swap guitar players? I'd love to see what Neal
Schon could do for QR. heheh. The dude rules.

Well, I wouldn't recommend starting with Hoagy-era CDs. But that's
because I like Fish better. ;-)
Anyhow, my all-time favourite Marllion CD is Fugazy, which is very
powerful. Not metal at all, but very proggy - especially the lyrics.
I also like the drummer - as someone mentioned before (I think regarding
Kevin Soffera - Ian Mosely often plays along with the bass/guitar riffs
on the hi-hat or other parts.
Marillion are not a shredding factory, but are VERY talented musicians
that know how to build songs VERY powerfully without overplaying. Kinda
reminds me the atmoshpere of APSoG... (woh! now I REALLY sound smart)
That's all for now,

I have to say this is really one of the funniest things I've ever read over here, and really appropiate:
Mr. whoever you are that (ONCE AGAIN) started this thread: whatever probelm you have with Mr. Bahr, I, for one, don't give a damn about, and I'm sure most of the other readers don't too. So take your meditations and your preperations and... (I had too).
But really: put a link to your web site which says: "Mike Bahr insults over here! Today membership is free!" or something like that and shut the fuck up!
This has to be the fifth time this subject comes up in the last year! No matter if you are right or not, this is between you and Mr. Bahr.

Hi people,
perhaps a little bit late but I got my LTE - CD yesterday. All I can say is that this is an awesome album. Anyway there's one question left: between lots of songs there are breaks of 2 seconds round about even if it seems that the songs should go on, i.e. follow one to another.
Is that a fault pressing or did you all made this experience which IMHO disturbs a lot while listening to the songs.
Sorry, if this has been discussed before. I would be thankful anyway for any comment. Please e-mail me privately.
Thanks a lot.

-TO ALL KICKASS JAMMERS-
What was the matter with #27? I sent that message ONCE only. Then I saw there were like 6 or something! And a bunch of other weird crap happened on there, too. But anyway, I'll check out Close To The Edge and Relayer. I think a concept album would be Multi-Pass! I think Mike should do the words (after all he did their very best song), and I think he has an untapped inspiration for that sort of thing. A DT concept album would be great beyond all greatness in all of music history. Would any of you seriously not pay $100 for it? I realize it would be a little different from their other stuff, but it would be awesome! Now... this guy I know who is a music expert named Freddy Stidean heard me playing "Man Of Our Times" (which I love) by Genesis and thought it was Marillion. Then he busted out a couple collections (I don't know what they were), but only a couple songs really stuck out. So I blew them off. But here (and DT themselves), EVERYBODY listens to Marillion! I am clueless when it comes to that band. What should I hear first... second...? Also, I saw Kansas in the "Return to Paradise Tour" with Styx - sounded just like DT. They kicked more ass than I aver thought possible for any band that wasn't DT. I also saw Queensryche, and I can't say who was better. But all of Kansas's main stuff was from 1975-1980. And they rocked. They were all hard-core and the sounds were totally heave. Art-Metal. That's what it was. More proof that Kansas is another must-be mentioned name in the Prog-Metal Origins.
-And now, to Mr. Earthblind, Starbound (Re. #19), trust me, you're very glad you didn't get "Tyger". They have stupid fluffy-puffy lyrics in it. Accgghh! But anyway, Rockoon is great for tracks 1 & 3, but not if you want to hear something that rocks out. Just like I tried to rock out to Fragile. But "Tyranny Of Beauty" - and Stratosfear! Oh, man. I know exactly where you're coming from. It seems you think of "New Age" as Yanni, and that's just one area of it. In some ways, Tyranny Of Beauty is more NA than Rockoon. But the message is clear.I don't like their earliset stuff either, especially stuff like Phaedra. Just a bunch of electronic space-noises. But in the 80s, with Logos live ('82) [where they used samplers for the first time in history] and especially Poland: The Warsaw Concert ('84), they were becoming something a whole lot more. They were actually categorized an electric rock band, for lack of a better term. Then the next phase. They recorded Canyon Dreams in '87 for a video, which wasn't released until 1991. It got their first Grammy nomination. But in the time of 88-90, they did 4 albums (Melrose the latest), where they were just smokin', creating a new genre of e-rock (and NA) as they went. This can be captured on "The Private Music of Tangerine Dream". This is one you MUST hear. Absolutely must. Magic. Then they went to the Miramar label in 91, and Miramar released C.D., then the founding member Edgar Froese's son Jerome joined in. Rockoon in '92 was a transition from early, influential e-rock to a more NA rock, and was very mild by comparison. They released a live album, 220 Volt, after this, where they started progressing toward what was to come. "Turn Of The Tides"- MUST HEAR! in '94 and "Tyranny Of Beauty" in '95 saw them going into new territory, but sort of returning to the Melrose years, in the way the guitar solos were done. Tides actually rocked a bit more than Tyranny, but Tyranny has an atmosfear all it's own. Then they did a dancy re-mix album, and are now going more NA and spacey again, with Goblins' Club ('96) (Kind of spooky) and Oasis ('97), sort of a follow-up to Canyon Dreams which is doing even better... I see it like a wheel turning. In '97, as if in closing the Rock-Out era of Tides and Tyranny, they did a live tour of all their stuff from '92-97, and released, from their own label TDI, "TOURNADO". This is the third album you absolutely have to hear first. I would recommend C.D. and Poland, but not first. MAN, I wrote a lot!! So here it is, you already dig Tyranny Of Beauty. Check out completely "TURN OF THE TIDES", "TOURNADO LIVE", and "THE PRIVATE MUSIC OF TANGERINE DREAM". With this band, you have to be careful not to get a buch of real-early, or side-project crap. Please let me know what you think of these, to start, and feel free to ask more questions. It won't take nearly as much space to answer in the future, with this much already said (c:]>*
ThanX to all who have written to me, and keep it up! I'm always here!

Yes, the German is the story. I can't tell you if the Japanese is the equivalent, but the CD I got (God only knows what the hell version, I know it was a German import) has the lyrics in the front half of the (one) liner, and the story in paragraphs in the back. The album itself was based on a book by Tolkien, but the story in the liner doesn't give a lot of details. You have to be a little familiar with his work to figure out what's going on...it's very vague from any other perspective. I don't know if you could find it anywhere. If you want, I could translate it for you. Drop me an email if this is the case. That CD has not (literally) left my CD player since I got it two weeks ago. I can't get it out of my head!!

Sun Orange, Small did indeed make the cut. it is listed as "s.o.s." in the track listing. and if you loved the demo, you'll flip over the studio version...
i hadn't posted a review of Chromakey since several others have already been posted. but i do want to say this... so far this album is my favorite of 1998. i haven't been able to s top listening to it. KevMo's vocals have improved greatly since the MMTBH demos, and his lyrics, imo, are better than ever. if you're a die hard fan of prog and not open to songs without wild solos and time changes, then this album isn't for you. if you're open to more straight ahead rhythms, incredible lyrics, great production, song writing and atmosphere, check it out.

Hi, Markus.
Yes, yes. Magna Carta has already recognized that some European batches of LTE were defective and that they would replace your copy for a correct copy. Please, do yourself a favour and check the catalog number of your new CD (after it being replaced). The correct ones should begin with MAXX (with two "X"). The defective ones have only one "X".
I'm posting this to the list because we know "repetition is the very soul of the net" (this was shamelessly taken from the comp.compression FAQ and shares some contents with my previous post with the King Crimson lyrics :-) ).
