I picked up Spastic Ink 'Ink Complete' which is a project that Ron Jarzombek put out last year. This being one of the close to fifty (I lost count) disks that I purchased while I was at the Powermad 97 Festival. :^) This disk is, well, wacky. It's kinda like getting a cool guitar album and an hour long lesson in technique as well. :^) The songs range from highly technical ('The Mad Data Race' kinda like using the guitar to explain the functions of a computer) to seemingly simple ('See, And It's Sharp!' 4 1/2 min. of only C & C# notes and 'Eighths Is Enough' 4 min. of only eighth notes). Even the later sound complex to me. But, then again, I'm not a guitarist. :^)

Your friend is correct Jason McMaster (later of Dangerous Toys) supplied the vocals for 'Energetic Disassembly' Watchtower's first album (now finally on CD). He and guitarist Billy White (who played on Don Dokken's 'Up From The Ashes' solo CD) left the band before "Control and Resistance' was recorded. Ron Jarzombek, mentioned above, took over on guitar while Alan Tecchio (formerly of Hades, later of Non-Fiction) supplied the vocals. O.K. now I can breath. :^) Gee, do ya think I like these guys or what?

I dunno. One of the best keyboardists I've heard (And for a keyboardist I don't listen to many others for some odd reason) is Ming Freeman. The dude is rather hypnotic. But of course the only person who can win the award for best all-around musician in my book is Weird Al. That guy is diversity personified. heheheh.

During Billy Sheehan's clinic, he mentioned that he just finished a recording with Terry Bozzio and "some members of Dream Theater". I happened to ask Dan Hanley at Magna Carta about something called "Explorer's Club" and their CD titled "the Age of Impact." He told me the following story (paraphrase)
Shortly after Trent Gardner (magellan) finished up Test of Wills (Magellan's 3rd CD), he wrote another 60-70 minutes of music, and wanted to release it, but thought it would be kind of overkill to release 2 Magellan CD's within even 6 months of one another, so he had to decide what to do with the music.

Enter Terry Bozzio and Sheehan. Terry was asked by Trent to play since there's mucho respecto between the two men. I understand that Dan received a phone call from Terry after he laid down the drum tracks and said "some of those time changes are impossible....Trent is a motherfucker!!"
So, about the music. It is all prewritten, unlike BLS and LTE (those 2 projects are going to be the next "Magna Carta" thing, in my opinion. Soon there's going to be a new project possibly! called Attention Defecit featuring Tim Alexander (Drums, Primus), Michael Manring (bassist, Windham Hill recording artist and amazing 2 hand bass player) and Alex Skolnik (guitar, formerly of Testament). Anyway...Age if Impact is the title, and the whole thing is divided into 12? parts with a common theme and concept.

(first, I heard that our man James laid down some backing vox for the upcoming Magna Carta release Tyrrany by Shadow Gallery)
