anyone know if the Hollywood s Fates Warning show on
April 11 is still going to happen? Tickets aren't on
            sale yet. Dr. Mosh?

i caught a clip of Judas Priest live at the end of the
MTV news show yesterday. It had the new singer, I was very
            surpised.

its time to check out the new haircuts. Personally they
            shouldn't have changed them.

Does anyone notice that Petrucci's playing has changed drastically from
AWAKE to Falling....? It seems that he's no longer paying that much
attention to speed & technique (although he can still do it!) but more to
expressiveness. HOW DOES HE DO the solo in "Lines"???? simple but yet
impossible to duplicate. (believe me... I tried. Just not the same....)

    Hello People,

Does anyone know anything about John Myung's Signature Yamaha. I heard he played alot of FII with it so I guess it must be due for release sometime soon. It'll probably be priced in the same league as John Patitucci's Signature Yamaha which is a pity but I'd still like to suss it out.

    See you at Manchester,

Like the subject's says :) Getting two incredible albums at the same time is so amazing.

LTE - we all know how good musicians these guys are, the songs themselves show what great songwiters they are too. Some are those melodies are so damn catchy :) Insane is the only word I can describe '3 Minute Warning' though my fave track is 'Universal Mind'.

Symphony X 'Twilight In Olympus' Again great musicianship, somewhat more of the same style we know and love. This time the thing that hit me is the great vocals and awesome melodies of vocalist Russell Allen. Of course guitarist Michael Romeo shreds the house down the album is heavy, but I hear the keyboards a bit higher in the mix than previous SX albums.

Well, the requests just kept flooding the old email. So I decided to do it.

I scanned the Hollow Years Tab from Young Guitar and sent an email to what I feel is the most popular DT site (Probably because it is kept up to date!). I won't say where because it is up to that website to decide whether or not it will be posted. If I see the files on the website, i will send an email to ytsejam telling where to find them - if the site does not. I uploaded the following:

1 - Hollow Years - in GIF format (Zipped for one download). HY1 = Hollow Years Page 1, HY2 = Page 2 etc, etc. 2 - Cool picture of John Petrucci signed by JP. In his Han Solo outfit from the Awake era - John Solo. 3 - Great picture of the Awake band (Kevin Moore) autographed by the band, sans Kevin (wasn't on the tour). They are all in black - hence DT MIB 4 - four pictures from the WDADU CD sleeve. JP, JM, KM, and MP. They are all autographed. I am so proud I have Kevin Moore's signature. What luck!

Well, I just wanted to help you guys out there. Nothing like sharing. How hard is it to start a website? Do you have to pay money? I'm thinking about it. I have plenty of ideas that I think would be pretty unique. One of them is where I have John Petrucci come over my apartment and give me guitar lessons once a week. Now, fill John Petrucci in on this so he knows his mission. Pretend I am somebody. Don't tell him I'm nobody. That wouldn't help my scam, I mean mission, to get him over to my apartment for lessons.

Well, can somebody help me out here. I can't afford a CD-R and I want to put all the sound bytes from the web on a CD. These include some live clips, the FII demos (including unreleased songs like Raise the Knife) and some various sound bytes like the samples on the mesaboogie.com site. I would love to just buy a CD-R, but it just isn't that easy. Why did I buy a scanner instead of a CD-R? What was I thinking! If anyone can help me out with this I'd appreciate it. Perhaps I have some stuff you might be interested in.

WILL THE REAL MIKE PORTNOY PLEASE STAND UP?????

OK (gulp) here goes.... Hey everybody, It's me......FOR REAL ! (sorry Noodles84 - but nice meeting you!)

I'm on tour right now in Europe and everything is going great. I get to check in here every once in a while (yes, big brother is watching!) and I figured I'd come out of the cyber-closet to put an end to this BIG MYSTERY!

Why now? Well, for starters - Through the past year and a half, this email address has somehow gotten into the hands of many DT fans, so my privacy has become less & less.....

Then I figured if my friends Charlie (hey bud- I'll drop you a private email when I get a chance..) and Derek (hey bud- I'll see you at soundcheck in a few hours...polish up them shoes!) can come out & play, why shouldn't I ?? I have always considered myself DT's biggest fan anyway, so I should be here with you guys!!

Now of course there will be the big debate, as there was with Derek & Charlie, as to whether or not this Portnoy420 dude is for real or not.... For those believers, you will find NO better source for the truth and latest updates with Dream Theater. For those who don't believe.....oh well....sorry! My sister Sam could always try to persuade you. (Hey Sis!!)

I will do my best to drop in every so often to pass on the latest news, information and fashion tips from Nicky Lemons. I'll also read any mail you send, so feel free to drop a line if you'd like... I have to say up front...I won't have time to reply to you all, so please don't take it personally if you don't hear back. It's busy enough on tour, and when I'm home - I spend all my free time with my wife Marlene & daughter Melody. But I will keep your name (if you'd like) to put on a mailing list for possible mailings of info, updates, etc....

That's all!! Gotta run! We got a show in Munich tonight.

    Carpe Diem, Mike Portnoy

PS - What the hell are you doing on-line today anyway? You should be at the record shops buying the LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT CD that was released today!!!! (shameless plug!)

Ok, does anybody know _exactly_ what type of pick Petrucci (and others like him) uses?

I know it is Dunlop. I know it is Jazz 3 series. And I know they are black.

But I always thought it was Tortex. Somebody emailed me saying that he actually uses the Nylon. He probably is correct, but can anybody confirm this? And is there any major difference between the Tortex and Nylon on feel and play (and tone)?

There are two different web pages with Jazz picks: http://www.jimdunlop.com/tortex2.htm and http://www.jimdunlop.com/nylons.htm

So anyone with one of Petrucci's picks or who can confirm which one, please help! I know this seems real nit-picky (no-pun intended)...I know that what matters is talent, technique, guitar, amp (probably in that order) ... but I still like to know exactly. I switched over to the Jazz picks because of Petrucci, and now (after a long battle with them) can't play with anything else. Just make me wonder about the difference between nylon and tortex (beyond the obvious).

Again, feel free to email me if you want to keep lengthy discussion about guitar picks off the Jam. And thanks for the help!

Joy! I hope our favorite drummer isn't expecting any important E-mails in the next year or so, since his E-mail is going to be flooded like HELL for that whole entire time....

Anyway, everyone is going to be questioning this, as always, but I could swear that the E-mail address looks very familiiar. Someone accidentally posted one time when they cut and pasted his personal updates to the Jam....

Well, anyway......who's gonna be the first to give Mr. Portnoy the typical Ytsejam welcome and flame his ass into oblivion?! :)
