Andrew Forcier was the one that compiled the list, but I haven't seen a
post from him on here in several months. As a matter of fact, I haven't
heard from him at all since we were both talking about going to Progday
97 last summer. If you're still lurking, Andrew, send me an email.

Roger, are you maintaining the list now, or does someone else need to
    take over?

Portnoy420 is the real deal. He posted the same message on the AOL DT message
    board.

On Tuesday after school, I immediately went to Tower Records and grabbed one
of the *3* (yes you heard me right- 3) copies of LTE. Great album!!! My
favorite song so far is Universal Mind.

Lillian Axe is one of the two most amazing bands that never really "made
it" stateside (the other being Canada's Harem Scarem). They are absolutely
great and I whole-heartily advise any jammer that is even remotely into
hard rock to pick them up. Stevie Blaze (guitarist) has a definite streak
of classical influences running through him and is, without a doubt, my
favorite lyricist of all time. I recommend "Poetic Justice" or
"Pyschoskitzophrenia" over their self-titled or "Love And War." Definitely
    check them out.

this has been one hell of a week.

so, i go into tower yesterday to have a look at (not buy...i'm getting it from CDNOW) LTE. I look. Nothing. I ask the guy behind the counter "Hey, do you have any copies of the LTE?" and he looks at me like i've got three heads. I explained to him what it was, and then his sidekick said "oh yah, i think we have it somewhere." turns out they had it IN THE BACK ROOM...of course, ready and available for everyone to buy it. damn wood elves.

anyway, about portnoy - yes, that's his email. there's no need to mail him with "if that's really you..." 'cause he probably won't answer those anyway. As for the "420", there's quite another reason for it's use, and it isn't Mike's birthday, and it's much too illegal to talk about. :)

for those who are intersted, there's going to be an official haji's kitchen website up soon, run by yous truly. i'm looking for suggestios as to "what someone would want" on the site, so all ideas are welcome.

What???? now we have people talking about how picks can help your tone? Next they're gonna be saying "Hey! this new Guitar Strap gives me an all new comfortable feeling and guess what? I play better!" Who cares!?!!?? Nobody's gonna scrutinize U abt whether U should play with a pick that's made of nylon, perspex, glass, wood or rubber! If U can play, U can play..... that's all that matters.... so forget the mumbojumbo abt plectrums and just play...... maybe with a little more practice, U'll sound better than with a new pick!

No, no... What you do is put LTE ahead of the opener, and give Portnoy just enough time to catch his breath and let the sweat dry, and THEN you drag the darling back out for DT and the monster jam ;> Otherwise, we'll have a collapsible Mike by the end of the whole intense setup. -=AlisOn=-

Well, the last time I heard from Andrew was when we completed a trade a looong time ago, I think. :-)

    > Roger, are you maintaining the list now, or does someone else need to > take over?

Well, given that the list had so much hits in just 2 or 3 days (more than 30, which I really didn't expect), I reformatted the list of good/bad traders and put a preliminary html version of it on the following URL: <http://www.linux.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/ytselist.html>

If you're (not you, Swifty, the people reading this message) too lazy to fire up your browser here is the list in a more beautiful format than the last time. Please, send me the updates to the list. I think that I'll update the list on weekends (that's when I'll have some free time). I think that I'll put updates every Saturday.

    The list:

List of Good and Bad Traders This is a list of the people that members of the Dream Theater Mailing List, The Ytse Jam, have traded with. The list manager's e-mail address is andrew.forcier@prudential.com and all requests should be directed here. Do not mail bomb the people on the list asking for trades. This list should be for use if there is a question over someone you have initiated trade talks with. All listings are sorted alphabetically by last name in categories of 1) with e-mail address, 2) with loaction, 3) with full name, 4) with nick name. Those who are listed in the *good trader* section are those who completed their trade to the satisfaction of the recipient. Those who are listed in the *mixed response* section either a) were submitted for both the good and bad trader lists, or b) completed the trade, but not to the recipient's satisfaction. This only refers to if the *service or materials* were unsatisfactory. This does not mean include if you thought the recording was poor quality, just the time frame the materials were sent in and the manner in which they were sent (i.e., not the type of tape you requested, no cases sent when requested, poor mailing packaging). Those who are listed in the *bad trader* section did not complete their trade at all. At any time, any person may 1) request a copy of this list, 2) submit a name for any section of this list, and 3) request information as to who submitted what name. Any issues relating to why a person submitted a name will not be dealt with by the list manager; take it up with the person who submitted the name. If you see a name listed twice in a row, please ignore the duplication, it is just a managerial error. If you have any additional information about names listed here (e-mail address, location) please feel free to submit it. Also, at the very bottom of this list are the names of reputable CD distributors. They will deliver your CDs as ordered, and in a timely manner (6-8 weeks). Submissions are accepted for this list also. Please ensure that they meet the standards above. _________________________________________________________________ GOOD TRADERS With e-mail address: * Bahr, Melissa (emerald@goodnet.com) * Bahr, Mike (durnik@goodnet.com), (also www.goodnet.com/~durnik). * Bellardine, Christopher (chris154@clam.rutgers.edu) * Borland, Graham (gborland@apsoft.co.uk) * Brito, Rogerio (rbrito@ime.usp.br) * Colberg, Jim (Jamesarin@aol.com) * Desobe, Eric (EricD91011@aol.com) * Eric ?? so I was listening to some DT in the car the other day, and for some reason I recalled a thread from at least two years ago (bonus points for anyone who remembers this thread - special bonus points if you can prove you participated). anyway, someone hypothesized that the line "how in the hell could you possibly forgive me after all the hell i put you though?" was not written well because of the repetition of the word "hell", and said that the front of the line should be changed to "how on earth..." ... and as i was driving and having some sort of jam-flashback i thought, well that's dumb, because it flows so much more betterer to sing "how in the hell", and you could just change the second "hell" to "pain" and get a nice alliteration (that's a big word mosh, better consult a dictionary) going...

ok, that's my pointless muttering for the day. go back to doing whatever it is that you people do.

    Hi!

Two days ago I travelled to Munich to see DT and Vanden Plas. Kind of crazy, because Munich is quite far away from Berlin and it got a bit expensive for me... (To the Italian 'jammer thinking about travelling a long way to see DT: Do it! It's worth it!!!) One day before the trip my friend from Berlin who travelled with me told me that it wouldn't be possible for me to stay at his friend's house in Munich as it was planned because there were already some more visitors. At this point I was thinking about abandoning the trip, but luckily I didn't. :-) And I quickly found something else for the night: I shared a hotel room with fellow 'jammers Choon-Kang and Matthias. They travel to all the following German dates... so actually I'm not that crazy, but they are. :-)

We went to the hall quite early, met James near the bus and talked to him for a second. After that we found a door on the back of the hall which was open so we could take a look in the hall: DT were just doing their soundcheck! Choon-Kang walked right in and headed towards the stage. When Mike Portnoy saw her he yelled in his microphone: "Hey! I saw your pictures on the internet!" (cf the 'jam one day before and the pictures at http://www.euronet.nl/users/ouden/ ). Needless to say, that was not exactly what I expected to happen at this point... :-) When Matthias and me tried to get in, too, the security threw us out...... Other pre-show stuff:

Jerry wrote: > When we arrived about 1/2 hour before the gates were opened, there > were already a few guys pretty drunk and screaming their lungs out... > From what I heard it seemed to me these guys were hungarian - anyone > from the yjam?

Before the show we met some of them at the toilet where they were singing DT songs (of course totally out of tune...). They told us that they were from Slovenia. Considering their state of drunkeness, I was surprised that they were still able to attend the show...

    > By pure coincidence (thanks for the smoke :) I met Ties and some of > his friends right where I was standing in front of the stage. > It's a small world after all..

This was one of the funniest things! Among more than 2000 people in the hall, the guy who is standing next to my friend from Berlin and starts talking and smoking with him, happens to be fellow 'jammer Jerry.... :-)

Okay, on to the show: Vanden Plas had a much better sound than at the two times when I saw them with DT last year (Copenhagen & Hamburg). They did a great job and got a great reaction from the audience.

DT were in good form, too, and it seems they had a lot of fun during the 2 h 15 of their show. This was the 9th time I saw them and I'm still heavily impressed when I see them play. Not much more to say about the show!

    Here's the setlist (thanks Choon-Kang!):

    Munich 3/10/1998 (set 1)

Lines In The Sand Burning My Soul Voices Under A Glass Moon Anna Lee (2nd drumkit) Hollow Years (2nd drumkit) keyboard solo Crack / Puppies Just Let Me Breathe Lie Peruvian Skies guitar solo Pull Me Under ACOS IV Winters Ytse Jam / drum solo New Millenium

Encore: Medley: Metropolis, Learning To Live, ACOS VII

For a medley, the medley was not bad. ;-) After the show I talked to Torsten from Vanden Plas for a while. He was quite happy about the audience reaction that day. At the so-called aftershow there was not much going on, only Derek was there for a second (really just a second). The other DT members disppeared into the bus quickly. Later when a group of people was waiting near the bus John Myung came out and signed some autographs.

Well, unfortunately I didn't get the chance to talk to Nicky Lemons. ;-(

Ok, I'm looking forward to seeing DT on sunday in Berlin, hi to all of you who will be there!! I think we have a good chance of seeing Nightmare Cinema, up to now they did it in major cities like Paris, London, Tokyo, LA, NY... and I guess Berlin qualifies !?!

    Bis bald,

    Ties

P.S. to the guy looking for a girl he met at that show: Viel Glueck!
