A bunch of jammers have mentioned trying to find the new Symphony X CD
"Twilight on Olympus." Let me recommend Impulse Music. (thanks Chris)
They specialize in mail ordering import stuff like this. The CD ran me
$30 + shipping, but that's probably pretty standard for stuff that's only
available overseas. Anyway, the number is (630) 529-3070. They're
located outside Chicago, IL. If you want to find out about their
ordering/shipping policies etc., check out their website at
    http://www.impulsemusic.com.

    >What???? now we have people talking about how picks can help your tone?
    >Next they're gonna be saying "Hey! this new Guitar Strap gives me an all
    >new comfortable feeling and guess what? I play better!" Who cares!?!!??

huhuh, dumbass :) Many of us care. At least those of us that give a damn
about our sound care. As for the tone issue, why do you think classical
players have perfectly filed nails on their right hand? Different parts of
their nails and how they're filed give them different tones.
As for picks, if you pick up a jazz 3 and then pick up a Fender medium and
you DON'T hear a difference in the tone you're fuckin' tone deaf. That's
why I use two different kinds of picks. I use light picks on my acoustic
(the guitar that earns money right now :) and I use 1.0 mm Tortex picks on
my electric guitars. If you really want some "scratch quality", go for the
metal picks. They're a pain in the ass to me, but I know a lot of people
    that really dig 'em.

That's all for now, my ass is now closed :)

Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince

Killmary said something about Ibanez and JP parting ways, and nothing was
ever said about it after that. Did I miss something?
And if I did, someone care to fill me in?

Also - I have what is supposedly a scene-by-scene description of the last

OK, now I am pissed. Not that I want Mr. Portnoy to think that one of a
select few blind DT fans is slacking off, but I am unemployed, and have
little money to spend on CDS, and even if I did, try to get to a music
store that stocks Magna Carta CDs. I don't have the luxury of driving like
you all do. Fuck the system. Anyway, I would love it to death if anybody
knows where I can find this gem in a central new jersey store. I have yet
to check the one up the street, but will tonight. And by the way, guys,
don't email Mr. portnoy with anything profoundly stupid, he can read all
that stuff here. <grin> I mean, give the guy a break.

I also have to recommend these guys (Lillian Axe) to any hard rock fan. But their 4 regular albums are out of print as far as I know, so check your local used CD stores!

I care. Since when it is a crime to ask about the aspects of guitar playing, or playing any instrument. I don't think people care what others think about their choice of picks, I think they just want some opinions so they can make an educated choice. Nothing wrong with information gathering. It's what intelligent people do.

Just got my copy of LTE yesterday. I must say Chris & Kev's Adventure, and State of Grace are the most musical for me. But I have to say that the offbeat bass drum style Mikes playing in Three Minute Warning is great! Jordan really plays well on this cd, I can't understand why he never got the job with DT. In my opinion he's caught right in the middle of Kevin Moore and Derek Sherinian, as a musician. By the way, for anybody out there still looking for a copy of LTE, I ordered mine through CDNOW. And I got my copy in three days, for 11.99. www.cdnow.com beanvet@accessus.net

    Hmmm....good point Lionel.

So which guitar strap do you think Petrucci uses? Nylon or leather? :)

*** Hey guys, Mike Portnoy here. Here is the inside scoop on that -- John uses a black 2" DiMarzio cliplok strap. He swears by them. Says they really improve his sound. Carpe Diem! ***

And you know, it is funny you mentioned it, but I found this rather 60's looking strap the other day with smiley faces all over it...I tried it and suddenly could play all the Malmsteen licks that I wanted...maybe there is something to be said about this strap business after all. Thanks for bringing it up!!

a few of us did it last year so don't miss your chance. I think there is a 10 team limit for the league so join up soon. The draft is March 28.

Tell ya what, if you don't use the right ( lighter ) pick on acoustic it sure will sound different, personally I think it sound like shit. I used my Jazz III ( actually it used to be JP's ) and it sounded terrible while the .60 sounds great.

I know that this cd and or song I am looking for is a rarity, and I probably won't find it but I'd like to try. I am looking for the Lie single, with the studio version of "To Live Forever". This is a must for my collection, and I'll pay a handsome price to whomever can turn me on. Or even a different idea, I would pay someone who has it, plus some other DT songs that are rare, to make me a full length TDK chrome tape of DT and other good bands, basically a mixes tape. But must have "To Live Forever" If anybody can accomadate, please e-mail at: beanvet@accessus.net

Now that I'm done mourning over Miss Missouri losing (anyone else see tha= t? Oh man she was PRIME!) here's a quick question for all the guitar buffs:

I just had the pleasure of playing a guitar with an ebony fretboard. It = was a hand-made $4000 Heritage archtop. It was unbelievably sweet. I'm just wondering if they mass produce any guitars today with ebony fingerboards. It really makes a huge difference in the feel. I'd love to get my hands = on one. Not that I have money to buy one, just wondering if they're availab= le. :)

Get high on ether when there's no one in the house. Pretend it's the big one the moment you pass out. That's just rehearsal, but it's comforting somehow To practice dying now.

I hate to disagree with Mike Portnoy, but I have to say that as a general rule, I don't like medleys. Given that Dream Theater doesn't have time to play all of my favorite songs in their entirety, I would MUCH rather hear them play only SOME of these songs than to hear them play ALL of them by compressing several songs into a medley. I think that instead of doing medleys, they should just make some occasional substitutions in their regular set list. For example, instead of always doing Metropolis as the encore, they could alternate between Metropolis and Learning to Live, and maybe even throw in Only a Matter of Time every once in a while. And they could occasionally play Trial of Tears instead of Lines in the Sand. I think that this approach would be better for the band (so they don't get as bored with the set list), and for the fans (so that you would have some element of surprise).

Of course I'm still going to enjoy Dream Theater, no matter what they play. Heck, they could play all Hanson covers and it would still be cool. :)

I've got the following cds for sale: Artension-Into the Eye of the Storm Aretnsion-Phoenix Rising Vitilij Kuprij (Keyboardist for Artension)-High Definition I'll take $10ppd on each or all three for $28ppd (The price is a little high because they cost me a little more than most new cds and they are in excellent shape-listened to once) If interested, E-Mail me at kvill@flash.net

    Thanks, Kevin.

PS-Selling all three takes precedence over only one...trying to move them all at once.

The singer that was on Watchtower's Control and Resistance was not in Dangerous Toys. He was from a Jersey City, New Jersey (USA) band named Hades.

    Hope this helps, Charlie

Actually, *don't* ask the man privately. Enough of us have come out and admitted that that is indeed Mike's address, and I think he has better things to do than to prove his identity.

    1) Yes, it's Mike. 2) Just because he posted it in two places doesn't mean it's him. I could post here and alt.binaries.pictures.erotica. gillian-andersons-head-on-other-peoples-bodies and say that I'm Gillian Anderson, and that doesn't mean I am. :)

Jesus, am I the only person that had a good experiance getting this disc? I called Now Hear This, asked if they had it, he said "Yeah, it's great! We've sold 6 already, want me to put a copy on hold for you?" To which I responded "Yeah, I want you to put it on hold for me!" (in a Cartman "Yeah, I want Cheesypoofs!" like voice). It's just that simple. :)

How about a friendly reminder to "Buy Haji's Kitchen now, or I'll flatten you like a fucking pancake, boyyyeeeee!" >:)

BTW, Haji's certainly does rock. It's very heavy, good groove to it, Alice in Chain's style vocals. I'm getting it as soon as I can (although the tape I got from Bafu does indeed help... :)
