Psycho Acoustic Overture is like Yanni on guitar. A LOT of
orchestration (playing with contemporary themes as well as romantic
and classical era compositions... a GREAT Paganini piece). He plays
extremely fast, most of the time, and because of this, he sometimes
lacks dynamics... playing on nylon strings doesn't help dynamics,
either. If you like Gilbert or Yngwie, and you like DiMeola, you
will like this album. I've learned some of his licks and stuff..
very talented. Anyone know what has become of him?

Firstly, to the guy who asked about milan 93, I have it. It is a good
second leg boot of a DT images and words show in Italy. Sounds great,
sound board probably recorded to tape as there is some tape hiss and a
little lacking in high end, but you can hear everybody fine. There are a
few segments where the sound reverts to an audience recording, like during
Only a Matter of Time and the end of Pull me Under into the beginning of
Eve. If you have a boot called Lost in the Sky, avoid this as it is a
duplicate of that one. I don't know which is better if you don't have
either, but I know they are the same show. Anyway, there is more. first, I
found the Hollow years single, and like it. I am not keen on the radio
edit of HY. You ro me is fine with me, and I didn't listen to the last
song all the way through but like it, even though none of them are
progressive by nature. Secondly, found Cairo's new one and like that too,
but not as much as their first album. Bear in mind that I haven't given
these enough listens. I like how Derek's keyboard takes the bottom end in
You or Me and think they should've stuck with that. I like the song and
consider it separately from YNM. It sounds different enough to me, I mean
there are similarities but all in all it is a different song. When looking
for LTE, the guy in vintage Vinyl up the street from me said they sold
out, it would be in the progressive section. I gave my name and number and
they will call me when it comes in. I wonder if they have a web site or if
you can mail order from them, if so, I will find out if anybody is
interested. Their progressive section is quite large and I found HY and
Cairo there as well as Royal Hunt, and some of my DT stuff like the Silent
Man single which has been in that store forever. If anybody is interested
in TSM, let me know. Finally, Journey's upcoming live album sounds great
and I am so pissed that I don't have enough money to buy all thisgreat
music. Fuck you all. Lastly, I will be changing my sig soon, so be warned.
I like having Mike Portnoy on the Jam. I wish everybody else would hang
out more often.

After a fruitless search Tuesday all over town trying to find LTE, I gave up and ordered it (along with three other discs) from CDNow on Wednesday. I had the discs in my hand today. CDNow is an outstanding place to shop for the "supposedly sold in stores but never actually in stock" discs like Jason Becker, Tony MacAlpine, LTE, Lemur Voice, and so on.
For prog discs, I'd say stick with the Laser's Edge ( http://www.jersey.net/~lasercd ) or Sentinel Steel (call or fax 973-691-5859). Both have insane pricing and great selections. For the really impossible to find, try Dream Disc (219-347-8080), which has normal import prices ($15.00 - $25.00) but can find you absolutely anything at all.
As for LTE itself -- ye gods and little fishes. Musicians this insanely talented should not be allowed to work together; they make the rest of us miserable. :) Mike P, if you're reading --- hell of a job, and tell John the same thing!!! What a great disc....

It occurred to me as I was listening to "Freedom of Speech" that the runs and phrasings I was hearing couldn't possibly have been from anyone else. It's a studio album and more relaxed than "Friday Night." Probably on par with "Passion, Grace, and Fire," though a little bit more diverse (more songs). I like it.
Another great album to pick up (I saw it in a store once and didn't get it. I haven't seen it since. I'm still kicking myself) is by Paco de Lucia, and is called something like "One Midsummer Night." A live album, just Paco and a flute player and a kickbutt rhythm section. Some great stuff on that, one of which was, in a different version, on "Passion, Grace."

Hello, I know this NDTC but someone a week or so ago (probably on the DT chat channel??) said that the Angra version of Judas Priest's Painkiller was crap because of the vocals. To the person who made that comment: Have you heard the original at all??? Angra's singer is just trying to sing the song like Rob Halford sang it originally, and in my opinion he does it brilliantly! (I've only just downloaded it tonight!) Hi everybody, an hour ago I returned from the show in Duesseldorf, and since I'm not in the mood to do anything meaningful right now, I might as well tell you how it was... The show in Hannover last Saturday was great, but this one was just *better*. Okay, they left out that part where some audience members help out with the drum solo, they didn't do that excerpt from "One" at the end, and Mike sucked at throwing his sticks to Derek ;-) *but*: -They played "Anna Lee" (which I hadn't heard live before). -If I'm not completely wrong the lightshow was bigger and better (probably because the venue was bigger). -The band had FUN. There was *a lot* of smiling and laughing going on, and that includes John Myung. -They played the most incredible version of The Ytse Jam that I've ever heard. The song itself wasn't drastically different, I think, but the energy and chemistry between the guys was just breathtaking. John Myung smiled during this song. :-)
The funniest moment occured during the Metropolis medley, though: John Petrucci played one of his solos and ... he didn't stop soloing. Eventually James and Mike carried him backstage (while he was still playing!). That was just priceless...
I don't think the show in Muenster tomorrow will top this (except if they'd play ToT or do some Nightmare Cinema or Nicky Lemons which I don't expect), but I'm sure I'll be having a good time finding out...

Agreed. Just stop a second and think. Mike's been reading the jam. There are over 1,000 of us here. He has all of our email addresses. If he wanted to say anything to you, he could have at any time by now. Obviously, the ones who haven't aren't cool enough to get a response (I haven't either and don't expect one), so don't bug the shit out of him so we can keep an open link of communicae from him and not have him fear pressing the send button again. :)
And about picks. heheh. They cost roughly $.25 to $.50 apiece. Just go down to the local music store and buy a variety and use the ones you like. Nuff said. Just don't forget to clean your guitars thoroughly with soap, water, and SOS pads.
