            Shredding with acoustic guitars?
Well, first let me say that I don't know (yet) Al Di Meola. Of course I
know who he is, but haven't heard him.
Have you heard of Vinnie Moore? Try his album "Time Odissey". It's not
the whole acoustic - in fact, it has only ONE acoustic part that I
remember -, but the acoustic shred-fest in "The Tempest" is incredible.
No to mention Yngwie's "Black Star". I'm not much into Yngwie - but
when he stops doing his typical shredding and does something like "Black
    Star", he rules.

            Changing the subject a bit...
I don't know in USA, but local TV channels here in Brazil frequently
use some rock songs in their ads. 90% of the songs are from Joe Satriani
(most of them from "The Extremist", and one or two from "Flying..." and
"Joe Satriani") and Steve Vai ("There's a fire in the house" comes to
mind). There's a car ad from Chevrolet (an old one, unfortunately
they're not showing it anymore) that has an incredible guitar solo from
one of the best brazilian players (Eduardo Ardanuy, from Dr. Sin .
Anyone who does not know them should check their album "Brutal" - it's
not their newest, but it's incredible. The guy really kicks ass.)
Well, I went all around that just to say that more and more they're
expanding their boundaries... the last one was on a cable TV sports
channel (SporTV), and featured SAVATAGE!!! Yeah! The soundtrack of the
whole ad was "Memory" from DWD. Really cool to hear that on TV.
Specially when I am going to see them, as they're playing here on
    Tuesday and Friday. =)

            See ya!

Ah, reviews of Savatage on Wednesday and Saturday, stay tuned!!! :)

No, I don't know his "Time Oddisey" (sp), but I have his "Out of Nowhere" and he is nowhere as fast as Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia or John McLaughlin, at least in this album. His songs are interesting, but nothing that made me say "Wow".

    > No to mention Yngwie's "Black Star". I'm not much into Yngwie - but > when he stops doing his typical shredding and does something like "Black > Star", he rules.

Yngwie is way too fast. :-) Unfortunately, I don't know many of Yngwie's songs by name. I just listened to some of his albums and made me some tapes (for instance, I have his "Magnum Opus", but I didn't take note of the tracklist, unfortunately), but that's all. Which song is this "Black Star"? Do you have the CD? :-))

Talking about TV ads, I remember an ad which had Dio's "We Rock" (I just remembered this because I'm listening to Brasil 2000's heavy metal show "Backstage" and they just played some songs off the new Dio's album).

BTW, an hour ago, I was listening to Oitenta-e-Noise and they played the following songs:

    * New World Order, from Ministry's Psalm 69; * A Pleasant Shade of Gray pt. II; * Helloween's Future World by Gamma Ray with Andre' Matos (Angra/Viper) on vocals.

    Wow!! Triple WOW!

I guess that heavy metal still has a long life and won't die as soon as some people were predicting.

    > Ah, reviews of Savatage on Wednesday and Saturday, stay tuned!!! :)

The show on Wednesday is the acoustic one, right?

Ozzy and Megadeth. This is gonna rule :) I just know I'm gonna have to show up late so I miss every other band ('cept tool is okay).

    > Second Stage:Coal Chamber, Snot, Incubus, Kilgore > System of a Down, UltraSpank, The Melvins

uuuuggggh. Man, this is NOT metal. I got a System of a Down sampler tape in the mail, and it sounded like Beavis was singing lead vocals (much like Cradle of Filth's vocals). Other than that, just sounds like ANOTHER Korn rip off band.

    Got 2 NDTC posts here...

    1. Well, I finally broke down and bought a Tori Amos CD, Little Earthquakes... seems very very good... so was wondering, from the Tori fans, what would be the next CD that you would recommend adding to my collection (although going by this, odds are, I will eventually buy all of them)?

    2. I am currently looking into getting a new receiver for my stereo, as my current Sony receiver is acting up (once again, this thing has been nothing but trouble). I am looking for one primarily for audio, but also with Pro Logic or some other surround technology. I have looked at a NAD AV-711 and will look at an Onkyo TX-SV545 and TX-SV343. Any people have these, and have some comments? Any other recommendations in the $350-$500 range? (currently, I am going to match them to Bose 301s, but will also be replacing those soon as well).

Thanks for any help on either of these topics... private email responses are welcome...

Hi, This is Alan, the one from the bad traders list. I just wanted to apologize to everybody I traded with before, Im from Mexico and bootlegs are hard to get here, this is not an excuse for a bad trader, I know, and Im not trying to make it that way. I just wanted to explain you what happens with my trades. I havent ripped anyone in the last 2 years (I've been trading for 3 years now and I traded just a little in my first year) I think I ripped off just 2 people in all my trading history. but Im a bad trader, why? because it takes so much time to me to get the videos ready to go...also mexican mail post service isnt the best around. if you traded with me and havent got anything yet please let me know, I can fix that...and dont worry I already sent Carlo D'angelo stuff (who sent me 5 really good videos...angra, impellitteri, dream thater and others) and Robert River's stuff (who sent me 2 videos of DT)... I apologize for the delay...Im trading with Calvin right now and I already got his stuff (sorry calvin...havent sent your stuff yet but it's ready to go now) I wont trade for a while since that costs me a lot of money and Im not wroking right now (Im a student). so, I just wanted to let people know...they are going to get my stuff. Im not asking to be removed from the bad traders list, I know i deserve it. Sorry all.

I just stopped at rsabbs site and now you can send email to the band via fill-out-form, I hope you guys use this method more than emailing portnoy himself.... I read something about Paul Gilbert's album a few weeks ago, I got that album too and it sounds pretty good, not as shredding as I expected..in fact it's true: it sounds like Nuno's Schizophonic....

for the people who likes Nuno bettencourt or Dweezil Zappa...they can go now to my page, I included some pictures and some text about them. I think Dweezil Zappa is pretty cool, I liked Shampoohorn and Confessions a lot but didnt like Music For Pets that much....I hope he releases some new material soon. I also have a guitar players link page at my homepage, please go visit it and let me know if I missed any....hope you like it.

I like Mike Keneally's music a lot, is there a Keneally fan on the list? I havent got sluggo but I have all the rest of his solo albums....even the tar tapes.

I heard that Nuno Bettencourt is working again with Mike mangini, they are supposed to be recording a new album to be released early next year. Nuno is participating in a movie as an actor and maybe he'll include a song for the soundtrack (more on this on http://www.kramerskorner.com/extreme.html)

Has anyone heard Toy Matinee? is the old Kevin Gilbert band, they released only one album before Kevin died and it's prety good.

I know there are a lot of guitar players here in the list so I wanted to drop a note about this: I have a friend who really can play, he did a demo last year (when he was 19) and I made some mp3 from there, the demo was on tape (there are no CDs from it) so the MP3s has a little hiss on them but they sound pretty good. I have 2 songs available and soon they will be 4....please email me privately if you're interested in hearing him... he really can play. one of the songs I already have is kind of a shred ballad (like always with you always with me or something like that) the other one is a 2 megs song where he really shows what he does best: SHRED. he's not selling his demo or anything like that I just want his music to be heard, he's got talent.

for more info about MP3 files in general and info about how to play them go to http://www.mp3.com http//www.winamp.com

about the new Van Halen album... I heard a couple of songs and I really didnt dig it very much....Ive never been so much of a VH fan and I really like Extreme and Gary's Voice but those songs really didnt click on me...I heard them online and maybe it will take me some time before I dig them but the first impression wasnt good at all.

sorry for tis long non DT content post but since I really dont post here very often I just wanted to write about everything I could think of.

I have a question.....what the hell is the nightmare cinema??? Z ya --- Alan Estrada Adler ICQ #9267174 http://www.geocities.com/collegepark/2025 "You've got your whole life to write your first album, and six months to do your next." Monterrey, Mexico al766074@mail.mty.itesm.mx

I have never read so much crap like this in my life, all these excuses, why trade then if it's is so much hassle ? You admitted ripping off two people, so that's okay, I think not. Bootlegs are near impossible to get here to (Australia) but that's never stopped me from trading and getting a decent sized and quality collection started. I've been trading for 15 years never ripped anyone off or been ripped off myself.....

I find some great stuff at Best Buy from time to time. I've seen Live at the Marquee, the Lie single, and I bought ACoS & FII there on the very day they were released.

That's just the one near me (west Chicago suburbs), so the CD stocker may just have a prog fetish, but that's the most success I've had.

    Hope this helps. Glenn
