Yep, Brendt has been on the list for quite some time. Other memebers of
SG have been on and off it as well. Brendt shows up in IRC occassionally.

His quote "74 minutes of music"...

Let's not forget the guys of Division (especially Mike) who are sometimes
on here (Mike's a frequent poster). You should be hearing more from this
up and coming prog/power metal band from Virginia. They've opened for
quite a few big name acts like Fates (twice), Savatage, I think
Malmsteen, Saxon, and others. I'm sure Mike can say who they've opened
for. I guess the new Division EP should be out soon.

Ok, first off... I got Artension's Phoenix Rising, good progmetal stuiff,
John West tears up on vox, and that Kuprij guy is a madman on keys... the
    stuff is very neoclassic...

Damir Simic-Shime... this guy is a monster on guitar.

Portnoy says thanks for all your e-mails and he'll be able to get to you
all in about a year! ;)

Too bad he won't make it out for Spock's Beard on the 14th cause he'll be

I think someone here just confuse John Petrucci with John Pattitucci. It's not that hard to do. Petrucci still plays Ibanez and Pattitucci (great bass player) plays Yamaha I believe. I think... Could be?

    'Sup Jammers?

okay Lawd have Mercy. I got to hear LTE about 2 weeks ago (thanks Matt!) and I was enthralled...altho we only got to hear it one time thru. But Yesterday I got my very won copy of LTE. Yuppers, Lisa and I waltzed our merry way into Compact Disc Warehouse in Sunnyvale, CA and by golly I snatched up the very last copy they had! (as well as some other tasty selections) Okay so I didn't get it on-line or on March 10th like a lot of other Jammers, BUT, I got it now and you can get it from me when you pry it from my cold dead hands! I'm only a singer and since this is not a singer's album I'll just give ya my thoughts on this from a "how it moves me emotionally" point of view!

Onwards...First of all Warning! Be you male or female, you will achieve immediate Ear Boners upon starting up the first Track Paradigm Shift! Sweet Mother of Mary...there started the first of soooooo many EARGASMS! This is pure insanity that just managed to be recorded. Paradigm Shift starts full-tilt boogie and don't stop for 8:54. Next is Osmosis....wow that's rainy Sunday music for shore. I kicked back and lit up a stick of my favorite incense and a few candles and kicked back to enjoy a very pleasant drift. But alas it ends too soon. Ahhhhh..next is Kindred Spirits. MP throws down some wicked double bass chops here. Boy does he have quick feet! this song has a nice flow...a little crunchy in the beginning and then it chills a bit and then everybody joins in and it feels like the song just soars upwards to a joyful conclusion! Now comes a little tune I can really groove to...a funky little ditty called the Stretch..makes me want to get up and dance, in fact I think I will!

Whew! okay exercise over and onto Freedom of Speech...WOW! This is another one of those songs that just takes me for a ride...it soars and I can truly feel the music make my soul soar! I close my eyes and let the amazing tune just carry me wherever it feels like going. Glad to see Musicians have a sense of humor with Chris & Kevin's Excellent Adventure. This song starts with some more serious work by Mr. Portnoy (Way to go Mike!) and then Mr. Levin drops in for a spell. But you must listen very closely to this piece, there are lots of little surprises in her that you will miss. PAY ATTENTION! There will be a mid-term later! After this I was ready for the complete State of Grace that followed. WOW....Jordan and John start this slow and sweet and they let it take it's sweet time to develop. This is another one of those rainy afternoon, light your candles and chill songs. These guys must have been psychic and reading each other's minds as they played this. This is almost like a lullaby, in fact I played it in my sleep last night. Is that why I feel so awesome today?

Speaking of Universal Mind and all that..this piece brings it back to fast, frenetic and furious! This is something ya wanna listen to while driving! Made me wanna fire up the Mommy Tank and take her out for a flight! Tower this is Coldfire. Request Clearance for take-off! And I bet that all you people out there who have this cd and have heard this song, just fell out laughing when they got to a certain part. Those of you who don't have LTE yet..I won't spoil it for ya. Hey! I'm not that mean!

As for 3 Minute Warning....heed that warning. This is further proof of what I have always thought. These guys are not from this planet. There is now way that any human can conceive, write and perform something that freakin amazing! 3minute Warning as a 28:31 minute continual, multiple EARGASMS! Can somebody hand me a Q-Tip please?

Alright I'm playing this at work right now and I see quite a few peeps making like Prairie Dawgs and trying to discover where these amazing sounds were coming from. heheheh Either I have annoyed them with this music or I will convert them!

His songs are interesting, but nothing > that made me say "Wow".

I think that "Out of Nowhere" is his most Satriani-like album. Maybe that's because it's my favorites from him (the real favorite being "Meltdown" - which is somewhere between OoN and TO in terms of speed and shredding). The first thing you remember listening to "Time Odyssey" (checked the album - that's how it's spelled :-) ) is Malmsteen. Light fast shredding, many classical influence. But I, personally, prefer Moore. And, if you want to see fast picking, pick up "Into the Future", or even "The Tempest".

    > Yngwie is way too fast. :-) Unfortunately, I don't know many of > Yngwie's songs by name. I just listened to some of his albums and made me > some tapes (for instance, I have his "Magnum Opus", but I didn't take note > of the tracklist, unfortunately), but that's all. Which song is this > "Black Star"? Do you have the CD? :-))

I have a Yngwie best-of album, which has "Black Star". Really cool song. About Magnum Opus, I'll let Yngwie speak for himself: "I don't like Magnum Opus. I"think it's complete garbage. (from GUITAR magazine - march 1998)

And, about what Yngwie did to Kansas' "Carry on...", totally agreed. I haven't heard "Inspiration", but I heard him play it live, and man, it sucked. The show was pretty good, however.

    > Talking about TV ads, I remember an ad which had Dio's "We Rock" > (I just remembered this because I'm listening to Brasil 2000's heavy metal > show "Backstage" and they just played some songs off the new Dio's album).

Talking about radio stations... I went to Campinas like two weekends ago, and when I was coming back I tuned the readio to 88.7 or something and there was this really cool radio from Amparo (another city near Campinas). They played a lot of good stuff!!! Too bad it's pretty far from here to hear it. And, fuck, I lost the station signal in the middle of "Master of Puppets". Damn. Had to come the rest of the way listening to Phill Collins (it's kind of a bad thing when the car is not yours, you know...)

    > > Ah, reviews of Savatage on Wednesday and Saturday, stay tuned!!! :) > The show on Wednesday is the acoustic one, right?

On Tuesday. And it will rule. =)

Hello, 'jammers. Went out to pick up LTE tonight, but came home with Satch instead. I tried Circuit City and two Walls for LTE, but none had it. Perhaps it would be a good idea to order it from CDNow, or another online store. I should look into that tonight, I'm getting very anxious to hear this album, having heard everyone's great reviews. Satch's new one's pretty good, anyway - I'm listening to it right now. I sure am glad it's better than his self-titled effort.

Last night I found two recent guitar lessons from John Petrucci at Guitar World Online. Does anyone know where I might be able to find the lessons he wrote for Guitar World before these two? I understand he had a column for a few months a year or two ago, and I'm really into his ideas, so if anyone could help me out on this one, I'd most appreciate it. (While on the subject, I should mention that at the newly made-over http://www.vai.com, some of Steve's lessons - including the very-cool "Martian Love Secrets" column from 1989 - have been added to the page. I would recommend checking them out.)

That's enough out of me. Be well.

    Brian

Well, I have the Euro version of the Hollow Years single on order, and it should be arriving soon. In the meantime, I found the Japanese version with two more tracks at a local store, so the Euro version is up for sale once I get it. I'm asking $15 shipping included, which is what I'm getting it for.

The tracklist is as follows: Hollow Years (Radio Edit) Hollow Years (LP Version) You Or Me (Pre-Desmond version of You Not Me) The Way It Used to Be (U2-ish unreleased song)

If you are interested, please email me, and I will give you the billing info.
