Interesting mix of opera (real choirs also) with heavy metal (more
in the style of a death metal, but with no death vocals here). Worth
listening, at least. The disc is worth getting just for the first 3 tracks
and the 9th track. Really cool.

    > Dream Theater - Images & Words (Just Kidding!)

A disc with damn, long boring songs with some artists trying to
show off a lot. You can hear their vocalist screaming and using a lot of
vibrato. Drop it from your list, man. Music for sissies. Get your Pearl
Jam discs and you'll be much happier, 'cause they've found the real
groove. If you want real music, get Obituary, instead.

Wow. If this is true, then I think that the emotion of the song is really lost with these damn gaps.

Does anybody out there have one that they'd be willing to sell, or know of a place where you could pick this Dweezil Zappa CD up for me? New or used (heck, even CDR) of this out-of-print CD would really be appreciated.

I am not talking about the movie here. However, I could find some uses for Cameron Diaz. I offer my thanks again to the jammers for providing some insight on other prog bands. After acquiring LTE on Sunday, I decided to go off in search of some Fates Warning material Monday night. After arriving at the CD store, (Get this, the store name is "The Electric Fetus" in Minneapolis) I was able to locate used copies of APSoG & Parallels. For grins and giggles, I also picked up a new copy of Accident Of Birth by Bruce Dickinson. At first listen I was pleased by my purchases. Not as technical as DT, but very enjoyable none the less. So far I prefer Parallels, but I am sure APSoG will grow on me as I learn it more. Still, I did like both of them at first listen. If you like straight forward heavy metal, the Bruce Dickinson CD rocks. Fortunately in Minnesota there is a few stores that have a good music selection. I was weaned on Yes and Rush in the 70s, but in the 90s, my heart belongs to Dream Theater. They will play every note of ACOS at my funeral. (not anytime soon I hope) -- See ya, AL...

Yesterday I posted a list of $10 CDrs, which included the Foundations Forum show w/ Jordan Rudess on keyboards. I wanted to add/amend some of the info on that show.

First of all, I only have 5 songs from the show: PMU, CiaW, Lie, LSoaD, Voices. Voices actually cuts off right after the "This is not reality" spoken part, so it's more like 4.657 songs. I don't know how many songs were actually played at this show, so I'm not sure how much I am missing.

Secondly, the quality was pretty piss poor, and I didn't want to mislead anyone, so I stated it as such. Last night, I was able to improve the quality drastically, but the result is still around a B-/C+ quality. So again, don't expect FM broadcast or soundboard signal.

Lastly, since it chalked up to be 30 minutes, this show fit beautifully on the end of the Denver Awake show. The Denver show is 110 minutes, and with the Forum show tacked on to the end, it fills 2 CDs up almost perfectly. Therefore, for $20, I would recommend getting the Denver show, with the Forum show as an added bonus.

I will accept orders for the just the Forum show, if you're not interested in the Denver show, but you will simply get disc 2 from the set. This means that the last couple songs from Denver will precede the Forum show.

The Denver show is very good, A/A- FM quality.

The check's in the mail, Pat. :) Seriously, there are members of a fair number of "Underground" prog and power metal bands on here. Jordan from Waiting For Dawn (formerly Carpe Noctem) springs to mind, as well as Johan from Timescape - if he's still here, I haven't heard from him for a while. Not surprisingly, DT attracts a lot of musicians as fans.

And yes, the new Division EP, "Ascension To Eternity" will be available soon - the end of April is what we're hoping for. I had to get a plug in somehow... :)

    Hi...

About the thing I said about Petrucci being signed to Yamaha and ending his relationship with Ibanez... it was NOT a confusion with Patitucci (who never played Ibanez basses)... the "rumour", as it seems to be, started from Yamaha themselves, as far as I know. It could be wishful thinking on their part though...

I've got the same problem with my disc. I just finished listening to it for the first time (received it today), and those gaps bother me tremendously. The flow of Three Minute Warning is practically ruined IMO, and some of the other tracks also sound as if the last second is missing. Since not a single one of the American jammers have mentioned this so far, I can only imagine that the German version is different in that respect. I was looking forward to this release for months, and now this... :-(

I hope I don't get the FAQ treatment for this one... I keep meaning to ask, what's the story behind Jordan Rudess' audition with DT? Did he not get the job or did he decide not to take it? Was there any reason given?

It seems that he decided not to take the job, because he wasn't willing to do very long tours and such (so I was told).

BTW, how many gigs did Jordan play with Dream Theater? Only one? Three? I'd really love to have these shows, since people (Adam) told us that he is faster than Kevin Moore on the keys. I'm really curious.

It is also interesting to note that the albums before Theli do have death vocals (or so I've been told). But now they're heading in a much more unique direction. I've only heard a few tracks off of Theli (the first 3 - which are really cool) and my brother bought some sort of EP released of theirs after Theli called "A Arab Jaraq Lucid Dreaming" or something weird like that. It's got a few covers and Therion versions of some movie soundtrack one of the band members wrote along with the original soundtrack. It's probably best to start with Theli, though.

Not exactly. Jordan passed on the DT job to play with the Dixie Dregs, and Rod Morgenstein in particular. From what I've read, he always wanted to play with Rod, so he couldn't justify passing on the opportunity.

    > BTW, how many gigs did Jordan play with Dream Theater? Only one? >Three? I'd really love to have these shows, since people (Adam) told us >that he is faster than Kevin Moore on the keys. I'm really curious.

He only played one gig, the Foudations Forum weekend, 9/9/94. It also wasn't a full length set (what we are used to), but I don't know exactly how many songs they played.

On the note about Jordan's capabilities, although he might be better/faster than other DT keyboardists, you can't really tell from just this one show. Jordan does some cool stuff, but you have to take into consideration that I think he did this show with less than a week of preparation, and was actually sightreading much of the music on stage. Someone needs to confirm this, because I wasn't there. Anyway, there's no way he'd be able to showcase his enitre talents under these circumstances, so don't expect to be blown off your feet.
