I've heard a lot of people say Gary is trying too much to sound like
Sammy. I don't think this is the case. I think he just naturally sounds
similar to Sammy. He sounds like Gary to me, but then I have all the
Extreme
CDs. If you are unfamiliar with Extreme, you might think he sounds like
Sammy. In fact I was playing some Extreme on Monday in anticipation
of VHIII, and more than one person said "Hey, is that Sammy Hagar?"
I certainly don't think GC was trying to sound like SH when he was in
Extreme.
Also has it occurred to anyone that VH might have picked him
BECAUSE he sounds like SH? I mean, they needed someone to sing
the Van Hagar stuff as well.
And is sounding like SH a BAD thing? I like his sound.
Your mileage may vary,
Trevor

Sebastian and I weren't talking about that little change of sound quality (at
least I wasn't, I can only speak for myself of course). I'm not *that* picky.
The problem with my LTE disc is that there is a second or so of *complete
silence* between *every one* of the five tracks of Three Minute Warning. The
Music just stops for a second and then continues. *This* is what destroys the
flow of the whole song. As I already posted, some of the other songs also
sound as if the last second was just cut off.
Take Care,
Andreas Berger

Hi,
Am I the first UK jammer to a copy of LTE? I ordered it
exactly one week ago from Mass Music online in the US and it
turned up yesterday. And only $13.97 + $10 postage, which
works out at around 15.65 UK pounds, which is probably less
than what most stores over here would charge for an imported
copy.
And I have to agree with everyone else's comments - it does
not disappoint at all, it's everything you would expect from
that sort of line up. Just amazing playing. Petrucci has
outdone himself with some of those solos - so much feeling
and emotion. Wonderful.
And no 2-second gaps between tracks. Maybe it's only the
Roadrunner version that has the 2-second gaps?
Andy (pissed off cos he can't get to any of the forthcoming
UK gigs!)

Subject: Savatage acoustic set review!
Message-ID: <35CB5771.B689FDD9@geocities.com>
Hi there ye jammanoids!!!
Yesterday night was the first Savatage show here in Sao Paulo, and it
was a kick-ass acoustic set.
The venue was a pretty small club, there were about 500 people in there
- if that much. The sound in there was good, but nothing extraordinary.
The show begun about 1h30min later than scheduled, and that sucked. But
then they all showed up and started to play, and it was very cool.
They started with Jon Oliva playing the opening act of "The Wake of
Magellan" - "The Ocean", followed by Chris Caffery with an acoustic.
Ah, before going any further, it was not ALL the way an acoustic set.
Al Pitrelli and Johnny Lee Middleton were using electric guitar and
bass, but no distortion at all.
They went on with "Welcome" and the stopped to say good evening and all
that stuff. Ah, a good thing: Jon Oliva said they were recording the
set, so maybe we're having surprises in the near future. =)
The setlist is as follows:
- The Ocean
- Welcome
- Jesus Saves
- Chance
- Morning Sun
- BlackJack Guillotine
After this, everybody leaves the stage except for Al and Chris, and
they announce they're going to play a song never before performed live.
Then it goes:
- Silk and Steel
- Handful of Rain (all guys back)
Again, everybody leaves, and this time Zak says Jon Oliva is going to
play his "Jon Oliva Medley" to us.
- Jon Oliva Medley
When the Crowds are Gone
Tonight He Grins Again
At this time Chris joins Jon on stage.
A Bit Too Far
- Believe (everybody back again)
- Not What You See
- Sleep
- The Wake of Magellan
In the end of "TWoM", they made a jam session, with Al and Johnny Lee
doing some crazy soloes. Cool! (No distortion at all. =) )
They made all those vocal harmonies in "Chance", "Not What You See" and
"The Wake of Magellan", with everybody in the band singing together, and
it was great!
They came back to an encore, and played:
- This is the Time
- Edge of Thorns
Chris did the soloes on "Edge of Thorns", using the acoustic, and it
was amazing!
Al's playing really impressed me - the guy really rocks. Besides that,
he only gave a break on smoking to drink beer. I wonder how could he
stand after the show. :-)
And, man, Jon Oliva is fat, hehehe. :)
The show was about 1h30 - 1h40 long. Really great show, worth every
cent. :)

Hi everyone,
Saturday, 14th of March, I went to Munster to see DT. Actually it was a birthday gift from my brother ( who is a huge DT fan also ) and his wife. This ofcourse was a great gift!! ( Dank je Erik en Iris!!) Anyway, after the excellent show (as always) we waited outside to catch up on DT. James was the first to come out. During the show he said something about a NEW ALBUM NEXT YEAR!!! So I asked him if they had much new material to work with. He said they had many new ideas AND THAT METROPOLIS part II WILL BE ON THAT NEW ALBUM!!! So lets hope his words come out and there will be no change of management ( or whatsoever ) anymore. We also shot a picture of us with JP ( my hero ) and MP. But I guess the most important news of this mail is the news about a new album.
Greetings, Almar.

It may sound complicated , but it is actually very easy to use a CD-R for your computer, especially if you get the right software, you can also get them for much cheaper than the Home stereo units that you mentioned and with the added bonus of being able to backup your data. You could also compress your music to mp3 format and get 10 x the amount of space (useful for keeping all your band practice stuff on one cd), remember, even though you can only play the mp3 format on your computer, you can still uncompress the mp3 files at any time and write out the wavs to a normal audio cd. If you also have a cd-rom, you can simply pop an audio/data cd in the rom drive, and a blank in the writer and do a copy with only a click of the mouse.
> Oh, one thing that may make me go with the CD-R for computer. I heard that > you can make a 74 minute CD-R in less than 74 minutes because you aren't > actually copying audio, but digital bytes representing audio. So you don't > need to make the copy in real time. Is this true? And not just in theory. > Have you been able to do this? >
At the moment CD-R's are usually 2x write speed therefore you can write an hours worth of music in 30 mins, but it is usually best to have the software to test the write before actually writing (this is to check for errors that may result in the cd being corrupted), this negates the advantage of the 2x write speed, but you don't have to have the test option on. Also I have heard that there is a 4X writer on the market, but I am not sure about this.
Cheers Chris

Oh. Sorry. Somebody did specifically refer to MP's comment in the liner about the change of sound quality, though. As for the gaps between tracks, don't know what to say....my copy plays just fine. Sorry....

Honestly, I don't think more than a handful of people have heard it (if that). Their CD hasn't even come out yet, though I believe the release is some time next month, coinciding rather nicely with their mini-tour. Still, this hasn't stopped me from buying tickets. The dischordant experimental parts of King Crimson are primarily the handiwork of Mr. Robert Fripp I'm thinking, so I'd assume (and I did) that BLUE will be more on the melodic side. And, if we's lucky, there'll be some *funk* thrown in as well...
