Another note to this thread.... From what I've heard... the home CDR units
(non computer) employ the SCMS copy protection... so you can make one
digital copy, but no other copies of copies and so on... the same copy
protection as DATS, MiniDiscs and DCCs. A computer CDR drive does not have
this protection.

Of course, lest we forget, producing an album doesn't reflect on the guy's guitar-playing/songwriting abilities. (Producers don't even necessarily like the music they're producing, though I'm sure it helps.) What's the sense in passing judgement on the fellow before actually hearing him play?
To anyone wondering what the connection between Gray and QR is, look no further. Kelly was a member of Geoff's pre-QR band, Myth, a band described as a "progressive rock/metal band" on the Screaming in Digital site (http://www.scream.org/). The p-word should appease some o' you fellers, I reckon...

i've got a 4x write Yamaha that i've had for about 6 months now. the thing to consider when going with a 4x writer is your system... you've gotta have ample processing power to handle it. i'm not sure what the minimum specs are, but for the better part of the last 6 months i've been using a K6 200mmx with 48 megs of ram and haven't had any problems writing at 4x. as for disc to disc copies, as far as i know you've gotta have both the reader and writer drives on the same SCSI chain. if that's not a *must*, it's definitely recommended. i use a 24x panasonic scsi as my reader, and disc to disc copies at 4x works like a charm. in fact, i haven't used the "test before write" option for months as i already know what my setup can handle.

I am not really into early death Amorphis like Carelian Istmus, I don't like the voice there, but on Elegy the roaring voice is just at the right place. heh... if it wasn't just a typo and you wanted to refer to the "original" Evenki etymon (actually it is an ancient loan spread through the whole culture area, and the most recent of Evenki terms referring to "shamanism"), the second a is long: shamaan; since it has a mobile -n the plural is shamaasal or shamaasar, btw.
A shaman's drum, btw, is called nimngangki or yaya.

Is anyone interested in some DT boot cd's? I'm putting these up for auction to the highest bidder. Here's how it's going to work.
Bids will be taken until the end of the month (March 31, 1998). At times during this period I'll be updating the list as to what the top bid is for each item. The minimum bid is $25 for single discs and $50 for double discs. Add two dollars for postage for any single cd. more than one cd then the postage is included.

hi.. first time caller.. just got back to PA from L.A. where i finally picked up the winter rose cd... i actually like it, although it takes me back a few years, but (admit it) you used to listen to late 80=27s metal too=21 i got it with the prog metal sampler (sym.x/enchant/etc.) for about =2420 at aron=27s music.. i don=27t know if they mail order.. = also picked up another version of royal hunt=27s paradox =AF this one with six bonus tracks (martial arts, restless, & 4 radio edits of paradox tracks).. also about =2420 at aron=27s... i had a chance to meet d.c. cooper (originally from pgh.) and derek s. at DT=27s pittsburgh show last november.. both class acts... here=27s useless trivia =AF d.c=27s future wife grew up only a few miles away from trent reznor (sorry) in a tiny western PA town.. scary, huh... here=27s my question for fellow jammers... has DT ever performed any winter rose song? and if not, which one would you like to see them do? my pick would be =27i=27ll never fall in love again=27... jam in peace.. steve..=20

Well, I didn't really say he was faster than Moore, but for that one show the entire band played noticably faster. Pretty impressive for someone sightreading most of the stuff.. I wonder if he had a guy sittin' next to him turning pages... :) Take care...

IMO, their "Karelian Isthmus"/"Privilege of Evil" albums/EPs are better than this pseudo-Yes meets Deicide thing that they've done since "Tales from the Thousand Lakes".
BTW, after the album Elegy, they released an EP called "My Kantele" with the acoustic reprise of "My Kantele" and a 2-piece song called "Brother Slayer". This EP also has 2 covers on it. The clean singer is just ok in my opinion. People think that he is good because of the contrast with Holopainen's voice. But if you really compare the growls from TftTL with the "clean" voice, I vastly prefer the cookie monster vocals. Oh, how those vocals suck... That fuckin' nasal voice just gets on my nerves.

I think that on "Elegy" the death kind of voice is out of place in some tracks, while it fits others.

Here's what I think on this. Firstly, you will need Foxtrot, selling england by the pound, and the lamb lies down on broadway. Those are the best peter gabriel albums. Then, you may want to get Trick of the Tale, Wind and Wuthering and Seconds out. the latter is a live album of genesis stuff with Phil Collins on vocals. Great starting point by the way. You can also look into Tresspass and nursery Cryme foir really old Genesis. After Wind and Wuthering, things beginto come apart, starting with And Then there were Three, which is slightly prog, but not as coherent. duke is good as well, but abacab starts their commercial era. Then again, so does duke with songs like misunderstanding on it. And then there were three had Follow you, follow me which is their first hit, so to speak. three sides live is a compilation album in which the second disc rock ass. After that, all progness is lost, basically, although for an eighties band, i still ike Geneisis. You can also pick up an album called The Way We Walk, the longs, which ahs a lot of good prog in the beginning and an awesome drum duo at the end.

Are you sure it's the same Kiss The Stone located in Italy that was shut down almost a year ago ? I understand another company that "borrowed" the name KTS has also started making bootlegs... Dream Theater "Tap the Rockies" for instance.
