Trim Metropolis Pt II? Have you been struck by lightning Korg?
Do the trees in your yard hum? Does your dog subscribe to the Washington Post?
(ahh huh huh, he said "post") Or is it the Hash brownies?
I usually read your stuff, laugh like hell and think, "this guy rules" what happened?
This is not funny anymore. Will the "real" KorgX3 please stand up!!!

A couple of jams back, somebody was talking about a stratovarious avi file for kiss of judas, is the file too big for email ? I would love to see it. Also, with regards to CD-R, has anybody worked out how to vary the gaps between tracks on an audio CD image. I ask this because I want to make up a compilation of tracks and put them on to one CD so I create an image of wav files on to hard disk, then arrange the wavs and write to the CD. The problem is that some tracks flow from one track to the next with no gaps (in my example vai's bankok/fire garden suite) wheras some tracks I do want to have gaps between them. To get round this I read the two wav files into a sound editing program and join them together as one track instead of two but this can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you have a 13 min song which is about 130 megs wav file to join to another large wav file which also requires a lot of temporary disk space. What is the best software that can handle this ?
Cheers Chris

Hello Ytsejammers,
One of my city's radio station presents a rock'n'roll show every sunday that resumes one band's career, making a 2 hour set of its songs and history. Many bands had their special: Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, Yes, Led Zeppelin, ELP, Jethro Tull, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Nektar, Gila, Coloseum II, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, and many others (this show started about 13 years ago, one of the oldest brazilian radio shows)... We are planning to make a DT special on March 29 and we'd like to get your opinions to make the best setlist for this special... Tell me about the songs that must be played...
Does anybody know an italian band called Time Machine??? They make a prog metal with a little jazzy influence (there is a saxophone player in this band)... One good starting point is "Shades of Time". Try to check it out!!!
If you like acoustics and good guitar players, you have to listen to Phil Keaggy. I know he is a christian musician, but you don't have to treat it like an obstacle... He is a great guitar player, both electric and acoustic, and his songs are very good... No metal or prog, but well-done guitar stuff...

Oh I was very disappointed with 'SoT' after the magnificent 'Act II Galaleo' which is one of the best albums I have heard. Check out 'Act II' and the first mini album 'Project: Time Scanning' both are much better and a more 'progressive' sound that 'SoT', which I dumped in the toilet.

Hi
Me and a couple of mates are going to send of for a few CD's from a mail order company in the U.K called G.F.T mail order and I have a couple of questions/opinions.
1) Has anyone on the list ordered any stuff from this place before, and if so how long did it take to recieve the goods.
2) Any opinions/recomendations on the following CD's/bands or if anyone was going to buy six of the following, which would they pick.
Altura - Mercy Anekdoten or anglagard Everon - Paradox/the flood/venus Lemur voice - insights Liquid Tension Experement (probably know enough about this already) Royal Hunt - Paradox Shadow Gallery - Carved in stone/shadow gallery/Tyranny Symphony X - Any CD Vanden Plas - Any CD Savatage - Wake of magellan Angra - Holy Land (definately getting this)
Anything not listed above but is in the same genre.
Thanks for any response, your opinions will dictate which of the above CD's we order. If any private email then email chrislivingstone@cableinet.co.uk not the address from which this message was sent.
Cheers Chris

Chris Livingstone asked for help:
Well from your list I have and very strongly recommend:
Lemur voice - insights Liquid Tension Experement Shadow Gallery - Carved in stone Tyranny will be released later this year! (then again I am kinda partial to Shadow Gallery - wonder why?)
These are in my take with me everywhere list. I have played them so many times at work, I have prolly annoyed all my co-workers who think I don't have anyother CD's to play! Boy are they wrong!
I have heard the Everon and Savatage and Symphony -X (did somebody say Symphony -X? There's your cue Rick Audet!) and they are now on my must buy the next time I get some extra cash and a whole day to browse my favorite local record store! (Rasputin's - for those in the Bay Area!)
Good Luck and happy headbanging!

Hi everybody, I'm a long time DT fan and a first time writer... I chose you, Ytse jammers, for you all seem to be up to all those static-minded people around here... I've been catching DT news and Italian forums for months, but this time I'm getting bored: I don't know you, out there in the world, but Italy is a shame for what concerns gossips and bad information. Now, at the Italian Dreamers it's running a very controversial debate about Derek... I can't believe! People -DT fans!- keeps telling Derek would be guilty of being the cause of the FII pop-oriented resault!!!! I can't stand it at all!!! No matter, guys, how can it be possible? First at all, I don't think FII is so POP-oriented as they intend to make me believe and I don't need a Metropolis part II just to prove they're still a prog band. Secondly, I feel obliged to spend a few words in defence of Derek, who is a formidable musician, and we cannot expect him to be a copy of Kevin Moore. Ehi, wake up! They're two different people, with different tempers, and different styles... what's the problem? I don't really think Derek is a first lady, obliging all the band to change gender for his likes. A song can be more or less progressive, but, ehy, it's always a DT song! By the way, I must thank a friend at the Italian Dreamers who supported this opinion (sigh, the lonely) and tryed to explain that we must trust DT. Ehi Mario, I do! And so... sorry for the vent (and for mistakes, I still have to practice at English). I do hope someone out there is by my side...
Mind the gap, Simo.

> Altura - Mercy
They have some cool ideas, but there are a *lot* of really abrupt transitions and more than a few complex parts that seem to be there just to prove that they can do it. Not a bad CD, but there's better.
> Lemur voice - insights
A band with an abundance of talent, but for some reason a lot of their songs just fail to grab me. Another good (but not great) CD.
> Liquid Tension Experement (probably know enough about this already)
Get this. Enough said. :)
> Shadow Gallery - Carved in stone/shadow gallery/Tyranny
Carved in Stone is a great album, and is probably the one to start with. Be aware that SG isn't as heavy as a lot of the other bands discussed here, though - there's plenty of guitar, but it's generally overshadowed by the great keys, piano, and vocals. Some people find them a bit "cheesy", but I completely disagree.
> Symphony X - Any CD
The only one of theirs I've heard is Divine Wings of Tragedy, which I recommend very strongly. Michael romeo is just a monster on the guitar, and he has a great band surrounding him, too. I've also heard lots of good things about the newly-released Twilight in Olympus, but I haven't actually heard it yet.
> Angra - Holy Land (definately getting this)
Good call. :) If you like Holy Land, check out Angels Cry, which is even better. Heck, just get them both. You won't be disappointed.

Saw Satch in Atlanta last night and of course he kicked ass. My only complaint is his set. They played eight songs off crystal planet in a row which is cool becasue the album rocks, but I like intermixing. Then he took a short break and did the classics. All of them rocked but he plays them so much live I wish I could hear some other less played tracks. Anyway, the opening band rocked as well - Derek Trucks a bluesy, incredibly talented instrumental group. Drummer was very portnoy-esque, with crazy time sigs and plenty of energy.
As far as trimming Met. II, I say please do. Not ten minutes or anything, but at least five. The majority of the CD should not be one song that is an attempt to prove DT is still progressive. Met. I worked so well because it still fit within the parameters set by I&W. Obviously DT has moved away from every song being progressive, so a 30 min. prog monster would stick out and kill the flow of the album. Just some thoughts.

Ok, some fast facts: the character's name is Kelly Gray. He was Candelox's producer. Evidentaly, he was the guitarist for Geoff Tate's band prior to joining the Ryche. So obviously, he's from the Seattle area and has a longstanding relationship with the band. He evidentaly went through a period where he was cloning Richie Blackmore, so he's certainly got to have some chops. Here is the Vegas Empire URL for the full details (where I learned all this crazy stuff):

There are many softwares that can handle the perfect control of gaps between tracks. If you're using Windows 95, then one of the choices is Nero Burning Rom. Other choices are Jeff Arnold's D-A-O, Adaptec's Easy CD Creator, Creator/Deluxe etc.

To all to the naysayers about putting Met 2 on the next DT album, let's take a look at LTE. Three Minute Warning is approximately the length of Met 2, yet they still had room to put two songs close to nine minutes, two songs approx 7 minutes (and from this point on I'm estimating because I don't have the CD in front of me) and a few shorter tunes. Admitted, The Stretch and Excellent Adventure are rather short, but overall, I think they would be able to have at least 7 songs of "average" DT length in addition to Met 2. They could have two 4-5 minute songs for the radio appeal, then all would be happy. But then again it's just my opinion.

yep. i do it all the time using easy cd pro and my two scsi drives. it's all a matter of drag/dropping tracks from the reader drive into the easycd window, then when you go to burn the disc, it just prompts you for each CD. pretty cool stuff.
