    > What would I recommend before SG? > > Lemur Voice > Enchant > Fates Warning (APSoG) >

SG, though, offers an original sound that i find lacking in both LV and enchant. for me, and i got pretty slammed for this one on parallels a month or two back, i find enchant very uninspiring. it seems to me that they tackle every prog cliche, and display them proudly. maybe the strong pop influences bug me, maybe the blatant 6:00 rip-off (yeah, yeah, they never heard the song, sure), but i really get nothing from them. well, from "wounded," anyway.

LV's "insights" is a decent album. someone said recently that LV is talented, and they write interesting music, which is true. again, though, i find the music somewhat flat, lacking passion. on the flip side, i had also found SG a bit cheesy at first, but after several listens, the emotions of the music began to seep through.

ah, in the end, it all boils down to personal taste. enough people enjoy enchant that i could just be missing something, maybe others are struck by LV. each band is worth a listen for what they offer.

oh, and APSoG? well, you'll get no argument from me. as far as i go, i don't think i've heard a better disc--ever.

Hey, everyone. For anyone interested, Joe Satriani is scheduled for a Yahoo Chat session this coming Monday. Check out the details at Yahoo.

Still no LTE yet, but I can't wait to get my hands on it . . . other CD's I'm finally going to order pretty soon include Superior's "Ass" ;-D, Angra's "Holy Land", Shadow Gallery's "Carved in Stone", Lemur Voice's "Insights", Symphony X's "Divine Wings of Tragedy", and Spock's Beard's latest. I've heard so much about these bands since subscribing to the list in January, I have to check them all out. Also, has anyone on this list heard of the band Monolith? I've heard one of their songs, and it practically screams "We wanna be like DT!" Very interesting shtuff, tho . . .

Lastly, what's up with this talk of "trimming" Metropolis II? I can understand why some of us wouldn't want it to take up as much space on an album (because then there would be MORE space for MORE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!!!), but that's why I thought it should be an EP instead. Why do the band "want to stay away from EP's"? I know I *might* sound a little greedy here ("I want as *much* music as possible, as *soon* as possible, and this is the best way to do it, IMHO, so there!" or something) BUT the truth is I don't want OFB to end up recording a "trimmed" version of what could be another ACOS. According to JP, the band gave themselves "a full creative license to do whatever the hell we wanted", so why should any of that be sacrificed? Much as I'm sure the band isn't really considering this (at least I hope not), I don't think it's a good idea at all. I'm happy enough knowing that whatever they release, and however they record it, will see production next year. An 80-minute epic would be nice, too... :) Oh, who am I kidding? I just want to hear more great music from the most amazing musicians ever. I can't get enough DT!!!

Enough out of me. Be well.

    Hi

I think, the next DT album will probably have a tracklisting like this :

    1)RISE THE KNIFE (11:30) 2)"new song for radio" (5:??) 3)"new prog song" (7:??) 4)"new metal song la (The Mirror/Burning My Soul/Pull Me Under)" (6:??) 5)WHERE ARE YOU NOW ? (7:30) 6)"new prog song" (6:??) 7)"new ballde" (4:??) 8)METROPOLIS PART II (25:00)

    What do you think ?

2 balldes 2 potential radio hits 3 good prog songs AND Metropolis Part II

I think this would be a perfect combination of songs for the next album.

Here's the way I do it: I first make a wav file of the song in question, and then I convert the wav file to MP3 using an MP3 file compressor which I downloaded from the internet just hours before it was removed. (the converter was actually illegal! Can you believe that?? ;-) The program is very easy to use, and the install file takes about one meg of HD space. That's all there is to it!

Fellow Ytsejammers, I have a request(ion) for you! I really need the setlist from the concert DT played in Oslo on the first of march this year. If anyone of you has it, could you please either: Post it on the jam OR Send it to me personally. I really need this setlist, because I'm going to write a review of the concert. And although I remember most of the songs they played (It was a most memorable evening!), I can't really remember the order they played them and what medleys they played. I would really aprecciate if someone could send it to me. Thanx.

    Hello everybody!

I just checked my Euro-CD and the mastering *really* sucks. Someone should tell the guys at Roadrunner not to master a CD in track-at-once-mode, or whatever they did. Forget what I said about some CD players muting the 2sec pauses on a CD. The gaps are on the CD! These guys must be deaf.

Since no-one from the US complained about these gaps I assume that it is an error of the European version, so all I can tell you right now is: Avoid the Euro-CD at any cost and try to get the US version! I will try to find out more, so stay tuned.

However, cool album. For some reason I really like Chris & Kevin's Excellent Adventure...

    * Brozio (Drums) * Petrucci & Howe (Guitars) * Sherinian (Keyboards) * Shihan (Bass) * Cooper & Douglas (Vocals)

Since then I have only heard rumors about that, does anybody know anything? I was told the possible CD's heading would be "Age of impact"... Please let me know!

    Mind the gap, Simo.

What bothers me more, is that when FII came out, the majority opinion on the list seemed to be that it was bad because the songs were too short, too "poppy" and not progressive enough. Now, we've got a virtual lock that the next album will quiet all those naysayers, and now everyone is saying they can't do that, either.

I mean, didn't someone on this list even say that putting Met. II on the next album will "destroy the flow"? An intersting statement, when none of us even knows what else is going to be *on* that album yet. It could end up being a concept album called "Metropolis: The Rest Of The Story" for all we know.

I've seen a lot of reviews for Shadow Gallery's "Carved In Stone" on the list lately, and you know what? Not one single person has blasted SG for "destroying the flow" of that album by putting the 20+ minute "Ghostship" on there. Just an observation.

I don't think they're cheesy. Shadow Gallery is really excellent. The production might be lacking a little, but they more than make up for it with their great music, especially the keys. Also, I don't mind the singer. He sounds pretty good, probably since he doesn't stray from his range too much.

I like the new VH too. It's NOT PERFECT, but overall it's a strong CD. My early favorite is probably Fire in the Hole.

    Hi there jammanoids!!!

Yesterday was the last Sava show here in Sao Paulo, and here is a brief review. There were two opening bands: the first one I did not understand the name, but it doesn't matter, the band sucked. The only thing that could be saved was the guitar player: the vocal had a good voice, but no stage presence at all (and he lost the tempo after the solo when they were playing Stratovarius' "Paradise"). The bass player was not bad, but no good either. The keyboardist (a chick) was just ok - we couldn't hear much of the keyboards. The drummer sucked!!! And the drum sound was too loud, so all we could hear well were the drums - the guitar could not be heard at all. They also played Helloween's "Power", and some of their songs (all sucked). The second opening band was Wizards, the same one that opened to Stratovarius last year. The band is quite good - they have some nice songs - and the musicians are pretty good - especially the guitar, the vocals and the drummer. They, as last year, played covers of Helloween's "Future World" and Ozzy's "Mr. Crowley". Enough about opening bands, Savatage came on stage and kicked much ass!!! The setlist is as follows, but not in that order (I really can't remember the order :) ):

    - The Ocean - Welcome - Chance - Jesus Saves - Turns to Me - Morning Sun - The Storm - The Hourglass - Handful of Rain - The Wake of Magellan - Temptation Revelation - When the Crowds are Gone (only until the first chorus) - Believe - Blackjack Guillotine - This is the Time - I Am - Dead Winter Dead - Gutter Ballet - Edge of Thorns - Exit Music (or was it Labyrinths -sp?- I can't remember well) - Hall of the Mountain King - Sirens

The sound was great, but the guitars were a little too low. Johnny's bass was all around, and that was great. Zak's voice, always great. Oliva's keyboards could also be heard clearly. A cool thing was in the end of "The Hourglass": when Zak starts to sing "Standing once more by a boat on a river...", the one who was playing keyboards in the background was not Jon Oliva - but the guitar player, Al Pitrelli!!! I did not know he played keyboards also. After "The Wake of Magellan", as in the acoustic set, Johnny Lee Midleton and Al Pitrelli did all those soloes again, and it was cool. Instead of playing the acoustic guitars in the beginning of "Morning Sun", Oliva played it on keyboards - and it was pretty nice. Al and Chris Caffery did some sort of "guitar duel" right before playing "Hall of the Mountain King". And Al's playing in 'The Storm" was amazing - that guy kicks ass. Besides having a great voice - one of the best vocals, in my opinion -, Zak's stage presence is incredible. He knows how to turn on an audience. The only problem with the venue was the incredible heat inside the place - I think an oven would be fresher. The show was really great!!! Hope they come back soon.

    > Shadow Gallery - Carved in stone/shadow gallery/Tyranny

Carved In Stone is one of my all time favorits. Shadow Gallery are very good. You should get them.

    > Symphony X - Any CD

Their new CD "Twilight In Olympus" is really great. Their last one"...Wings Of Tragedy " is also really good.

    > Vanden Plas - Any CD

Well, "The God Thing" is good. But I don't like the vocals that much.

    > Savatage - Wake of magellan

A good album but, "Dead Winter Dead" and "Streets" are both better albums than "Wake Of Magellan" (IMO).

    > Royal Hunt - Any CD

You will love "Paradox". It's very good. "Moving Target" is great too. The live 2CD "1996", which has a prefect sound quality, is also very good.

    > Angra - Holy Land (definately getting this)

    Great band. Great album.

    > Anything not listed above but is in the same genre.

    * Superior - Behind

They just kick ass. Very Heavy and Dark Prog Metal.

    * Empty Tremor - Apocolokyntosys

I don't think, I have to say anything about this great band ;-) You should get this one. Their style is very simelar to Images And Words. This band kick some major ass. A must have ...

    * Enchant - A Blueprint Of The World

I love this album. "Nighttime Sky" is one of the best prog songs ever.
