Okay, let's all follow suit, go to the stores, rape the GW magazines of as
many "postcards" as you can find and send in a unified vote for DT's "Under a
Glass Moon" and make it number one. Even if this isn't you're favorite JP
solo, who cares. A divided vote won't help.

I'm sorry, but I have to comment on how I think this is a completely
inappropriate response, Graham. What if Glenn is Jewish and takes exception
to a German band naming themselves 'Superior'? What if he's not joking?
What if he's totally serious? Then won't you look like a dickhead? Come on,
cut a guy some slack before you tear into them like this. Some people might
genuinely be offended by a German band named 'Superior'. Personally, I
like the name, German band or not; I like the band (for the most part), and
I like everyone involved here, but this was WAY out of line. You might want
to think about a response like that before you rip someone a new asshole.

Bah, no recommendations of SHORT songs yet?
Anyone who has listened to Naked City ('Torture Garden' is prolly the best
example) knows that short songs are the way to go! Whoo! Seriously, 40 or
so tracks in 28 minutes for Torture Garden.... and more time signatures,
textures and chaos than much else I've heard. Not to mention the two BEST
soloists: John Zorn and Yamatsuka Eye! :)
Also, Australia's own Blood Duster have some damn fine short songs.....
this band aren't everyone's cup o' coffee, though.

Sorry Rocky,
You're definitely wrong on this one. They were originally scheduled for
the 26th. I was pissed because I was going to be in NY for Xmas and I had
already missed the Ballroom show. Needless to say, I didn't think I was
going to see DT. Then they rescheduled for the 3rd of January. I was able
to get to the show.

yeah, i got it yesterday--truly incredible stuff. it's not exactly on
the highest budget or anything, but joey vera (bassist) put together
some interesting conceptual images to accompany the live footage, which
is really thought provoking, and a nice complement to the theme of the
song. watching zonder play is worth the price of the video alone, i'd
say. watching them perform this truly allows for an appreciation of
what they've accomplished with this song. for those of you who were
disenchanted with APSoG, before you write it off completely, watch the
video first.

Perhaps it is my frazzled brain.. but at 2:20 of track 13 of LTE, my brain
hears an old Van Halen Riff. Perhaps it is all the taok of VH on this
newsgroup.. my old age, or whatnot..
does anyone else hear this? It is not 'exact'.. but similar. Mind you I
only own 1984 and 5150 so my knowledge of VH is shallow.. though I did
group up hearing most of the songs.
sorry for the bandwidth :) BTW: LTE is now really high on my most played
CD list. Interesting that a bunch of guys jamming for a week can produce
that kind of an album. Then again.. I tend to like jams.

No the guy is way out of line for posting this sort of thing. Actually before I posted my responce I asked several online jammers on #ytsejam IRC what they thought, just to make sure I wasn't making something out of nothing. If Glenn has a problem then he should take it up with the band and not this list.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the studio track "Eve" is on the bonus disc, and I've also heard that not even OFD (MP) has a copy of this.

I agree here. Listen to "Wait For Sleep". I think KevMo put a hell of a lot of heart into those 2 and 1/2 minutes. Very few songwriters can express themselves that effectively. So, yes, a lot can be said in just a few minutes - but then, take a few minutes of a longer song, like ACOS: the last 3 minutes of that song are amazing. See, this is where the concept of *connection* comes in - long songs aren't hard to write, if you have a good message to dwell on and a collection of similar riffs . . . it's all a matter of making the song flow with that message or group of ideas, and having everything fit into place. Where should the song go next? And the same may apply to an entire album, or collection of albums (who here wouldn't love to hear a DT 2-CD concept album?). It all starts with one idea . . . a collection of individual riffs and progressions make up a song, a collection of individual songs make up an album, etc., and somehow it's all related. What if I&W had been just one song, like APSoG? It wouldn't work, just as if APSoG were a collection of songs. The music's still there, and it still says a lot, whether in a 2 minutes or 10. I don't prefer either over the other. That's why I feel DT are such excellent composers - they can say so much in 2 or 3 minutes, with just piano or an acoustic guitar, and then write an amazing epic like ACOS, and it all *fits* - meaning, ACOS could never say as much in a compressed, 10 minute version, and WFS might not sound as good if drawn out to 5 or 6. In any song, the band feels there's either much or little to be said, and they "end" the song accordingly. OFB *KNOW* how to get a message across musically, and that's some of the most valuable knowledge a musician or group of musicians can possess.
Sorry for the long post, hoping it sounds *somewhat* intelligent, Brian
P.S. Hehe . . . tomorrow I'm half-way legal! Meaning club shows are in, but alcohol . . . *sigh* . . .
