Speaking of music in St. Louis, are there any musicians in St. Louis who
would like to get together and jam sometime. It's so hard finding prog
    players at Wash U. ;-)

Get in touch. I'm two miles from the other side of the river.
    I'm available after April.

Hey all....I have been chatting with Derek for the past couple of days on
AOL he is cool as shit. I got some good info on his side project with
John Myung called "Platapus" Sounds pretty decent, aslo he is pretty
fired up about the new album. and the band has no plan to release any
video tapes in the near future.

    Hi all-

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just posted the first half of an
interview with Ty Tabor at the site. He talks about his new solo album
(Which is great, in case you haven't heard it. I'll have a review and some
sound samples up next week.) and the Platypus project, plus the key to
    quality music, writing, and more.

Also have a Spotlight on Thorne and Soundscape featuring reviews of both
albums, plus sound samples. And both are phenomenal releases. Check 'em
out and see what you think.

sorry for the misinformation, I talked to Roland yesterday and he told me
that his tape deck sped up the recording...so I misinformed everybody,
sorry about that....the new clips on the Shredder's Lair were recorded with
the sound recorder of windows, they were directly recorded with the
computer so I guess this time we wont have that sort of problems...the new
files are just shred improvisations of one minute each, so dont expect the
greates songs written there, they are just fast licks with a lot of screw
ups, no effects, no nothing...I hope you like them anyway....
by the way, the first 3 files were uploaded without Roland's knowledge, he
really didnt think on spreding his songs around, that was my idea....

    >
    > I'm sure these ones are a LOT better, after speaking to Rupp... but
    >we had DAMN good reason for not believing that those other samples
    >were legitimate.... by Rupp's own admission, they were sped up
    >(because of the tape deck he was using in the mix down). He
    >mentioned that he didn't ever intend for those songs to get spread
    >around, etc.

The Projekct Two - Space Groove cd's already out. You can buy it at the show. 2-cd set for only $15. Nice price! (The first cd is also an enhanced cd) And if you want other stuff by King Crimson you can buy them at the show too. I got myself the live 2-cd B"Boom only $10.

I listened to the cd a couple times and still thought that the show was a lot more exciting than the album.

But you know what would really blow, if DT does not sell enough copies of FII and their following album to please the label, and then DT is dropped from a major label. Some people say that might be good if they sign with Magna Carta because they will have more artistic freedom, but when was the last time a Magna Carta band played as many concerts as DT? This concert bill _*IS*_ DT's chance to play in big arenas and have thousands of potential fans listen to them every night. And that does not blow.

    Congratulations.

I am so glad to see that the statement: "Derek loves MM, Brain-deads love MM, Derek is brain-dead" unveiled all the doctors of logic. I am so very impressed.

Too bad you have proven your level of comprehension to be that of a MM fan.

I'd like to paint a "Sarcasm" watermark under this email to help you with your faultly comprehension. However, behind every sarcastic remark lies the truth that spawned the statement from it's inception.

The point being that I only gained respect for Derek Shernian for making the statement that he loves MM. Not only does it show his ability to accept music on a broad format, but he has the balls to not care if his fans will approve of his comments.

OK, I have a little story I thought I would share to see people's opinions on.

I was visiting my aunt and uncle a couple of days ago. I was blaring Awake when I pulled into the driveway and my aunt wanted to know what that sound was.

I went back out to my car and grabbed the Awake CD. I figured a mellow rock song would be a good one to start with and I picked Voices. Let it be known, my aunt grew up in the mid 70's and worshipped Stix = Mellow Rock.

Well, she loved the track (Voices) and her first reaction was that it had a Moody Blues feel to it. Now, I do not claim to be any expert on Moody Blues, I only know a couple of their tracks.

If anyone out there is into MB, do you think this is a good comment for Voices?

Nevertheless, it's cool to see that 70's Prog rockers can appreciate DT =]

Can I bitch and moan for a minute?

So I'm looking for a new band. And I check the Boston Phoenix, which has all these 'Guaranteed Gigs' thingies in it, and I call a bunch of them that say 'Bassist Available'. And out of something like 10 calls, only three people call me back - which pisses me off to begin with. Then, one of them says, "Oh, we got a bass player about a month ago." Well, why didn't you take the goddamn ad out of the paper, you dolt?!? So the second one seems pretty cool - "Yeah, we're still looking for a bassist and a drummer, and we'll send you a CD." Cool.

Then I get a call from the third one. "Yeah, we're kinda bluesy rock, and we have a bassist who isn't working out due to his job - hey, we're playing at Sharkey's in Nashua, come check us out!" $8 cover, $.50 drinks - how can you go wrong with fifty-cent drinks all night? "I'll have ten shots of Jaegermeister." "Five bucks." (/me wipes a tear from his eye.)

So I drag my poor girlfriend (who should be canonized) along with me to check this band out. Sort of like Tom Waits meets Collective Soul. Not my cup of tea. And their guitarist, who wasn't that bad, had that annoying phaser on for the whole friggin' gig! So now, I want to take hostages at this club, which is all trailer park white trash, the bartenders are kinda cute but only have three brain cells, there are all these fat chicks in spandex running around, thinking they're all that and a bag of chips when in reality they're in serious danger of getting harpooned, the goddamn beer is skunked, and I have a headache because of the guitarist doing semi-bad porno music riffs all friggin' night.

I'm sorry. I just wanted to vent. Maybe someone out there can find some humor in my despair at trying to find a halfway-decent band.

    Hi all

back after a three week break in the Maldives I find the list hasn't changed much - nice to know there are some things in life that you can rely on. But it would also appear that some people still have their heads rammed firmly up their poop chutes concerning bands like Marilyn Manson and Kiss. True, no musical giants, but extremely entertaining live, which for me is very important sometimes. As long as you don't take all the getting dressed up and spitting blood and saying 'fuck' seriously, bands like these can be a lot of fun (see also The Tubes, Devo, GWAR). Let's be honest, the live stuff by some of the bands held in high esteem on this list has an entertainment factor that can only be beaten by watching jelly set on a hot day...

Warning: reviews of the following albums will be appearing here soon
