What can I say... that is one of the most kick ass songs I've always
heard!!! It's incredibly beautiful, the guitars are just amazing, and I
also have that weird feeling when hearing it (don't know if it's the
same, but, what the hell. :) ) By far, my favorite song on that album!
Every phrase the guy plays is just like the guitar is singing, and the
background musis perfectly fits into the overall atmosphere of the song
(wow! I always wanted to say that. :) )

            Changing the subject a little...
I know I'm a little late on this, but Satch's "Crystal Planet" simply
    rocks!!! I loved the album!

    Hi everyone!

The deadline is coming at midnight eastern on Tuesday so I figgered I'd repost this. So far I have $50 bid on Mind Control and $75 for The Dance of Eternity and that's it. If you're interested in any of these please email me privately.

Is anyone interested in some DT boot cd's? I'm putting these up for auction to the highest bidder. Here's how it's going to work.

Bids will be taken until the end of the month (March 31, 1998). At times during this period I'll be updating the list as to what the top bid is for each item. The minimum bid is $25 for single discs and $50 for double discs. Add two dollars for postage for any single cd. more than one cd then the postage is included.

NOTE: These prices are for USA orders. If you are in another country then you'll need to add more for postage. The rate will depend on what country you live in. I will call my post office and ask them and get back to you. OK, enough of that bullshit, here we go! :) Scott

Derek was just in a Metal Edge chat on AOL (keyword: nightclub). According to him, DT will do US shows from May 8 - 23, possibly Irving Plaza on the 11th. He also said ELP will be the third act in the DT/DP tour. He seems very excited about the Playpus album w/ Ty Tabor, John Myung, and Rod Morgenstien, and you can e-mail him (DSherinian@aol.com) with your full name if you want to be on the Platypus mailing list. He also said "canada blows!" and "our singer is a canuck." What a cool dude.

NO ! This is not right. If a record shop has 10 x FII in their stock, it means FII has sold 10 times. So many albums went Gold before even their releasing.

Sales are calulated on the basis of how many CD's have been left from the record lable (actully from their ditributer).

That's exaclty the reason, why power metal bands are in the German charts. Evey shop in Krefeld has at least more than 4 copies of Primel Fear. And I've searched 8 days long to find the only copie of LTE :-((

    Look at Madonna :

Since she is a super star, ever record shop and mail order company (la CD Now) has pre-order her album more than 500 000 world wide. Sure the album will be nummber 1 just on week later in lot of countries.

Okay, this is not an insult... this is a fact. You're not paying attention. It's great to ask questions and stuff... it's encouraged. But for the love of God, PLEASE read the responses. You had several letters describing what happened to Jason, and describing the ailment. It's not okay for you to expect the jammers to stop and rewrite the same things over and over again, just because you lack the ability or desire to pay attention when someone is trying to help you out. You have nothing to say in response to this, so don't even comment. This is merely a public scolding, and I promise to react with all due wrath if you cry about it. :)

I am looking for a few tools for teaching guitar. I need a good way of printing off blank tab paper, blank neck diagrams, and blank chord boxes so I can fill stuff in on my own. It would also be helpful to find a stamp of a blank chord box... 2 of my old teachers had these, and they came in handy. Please respond privately. Thanks!

Friends in music, I was reading over Vai's lesson on vibrato, and I have two questions. First, can anyone tell me which muscles are mostly involved in circular vibrato? Fingers? Wrist? Arm?(probably not) Second, does your finger tip actually change positions on the string between two frets, or does it stay as stationary as possible and pull the string everywhere? I'd love to harness this stuff if you can help. Thanks. Be well. Matt B

Well, this is my favorite song off "perspective", and i know it was completely written by Jason Becker, but i cant imagine that song played by him..... I do realize, that if he played it, it might have as much emotion, if not more, than the Lee Firkins version. But Lee Firkins has a playing finnesse very little guitar players have, and that helped a lot in trying to communicate the emotional content of the song.(i think Eric Johnson hast that kind of finnesse) Hey, i dont mean that if a guitarist doesnt possess this finnesse in his guitar playing, cant communnicate very well the emotional side of the song, but my point is that Jason Becker would have played this song very different, and i will always wonder if i would get the same feeling off that song with JB playing.... BTW, has anybody heard "24 Grabd Avenue" by Lee Firkins? It kind of reminds me of certain stage in my life, like my childhood or something. Very nice and subtle playing by the guy. How are his other albums? (any album, but the first)

This WAS posted on before, so you've missed it..... ANYWAY, YES, he has both of his arms. Doesn't mean they WORK, though. Jason's disease basically attacks his nerve endings, and when they don't work, his muscles don't work..... excercising them helps somewhat, but basically, with Lou Gehrig's disease, you're fucked, not to put too fine a point on it. That Jason is still LIVING is alone an example of great odds he has overcome. From the onest of the disease, the expected life-span is a further five years. Jason was diagnosed I believe over 9 years ago. SO, he has his arms, but the muscles & nerves are screwed, hence he can't use them. And this isn't just extended to his arms, we're talking his whole body, here. Any bodily action has to basically be done by someone else. So, I'd say yes, he is overcoming some incredible odds.

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

AlisOn remarked: >Ok, I'm convinced that there's a general consensus that Jason Becker is a >semi-deity. I'm getting this undertone that he's overcome incredible odds >somehow. Can somebody step aside from walking on glass, and just say what >kind of odds he has overcome? Does he have both of his arms?

Yes, he does have both of his arms, but they're practically useless to him by now. Obviously you don't know very much about ALS.

(Pardon me, those who've already heard this rant because they read it the first time) ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a neuromuscular illness which causes weakness, paralysis, wasting away, loss of speech, loss of muscle control, and eventually death when your lungs and heart don't function properly anymore (they're muscles, too). The disease does nothing to your brain -- you are forced to live with yourself as your body, once young and strong (and, in Jason's case, incredibly talented and dexterous) becomes a shell of what it once was. You're trapped in a degenerating hulk, unable to walk, speak, or even feed yourself without assistance.

Normal life expectancy is about 5 years. Jason has lived 9 years since the onset of the disease. That's beating the odds right there.

Now, putting aside for the moment the tragedy that this would be to a musician who can't play the instrument he loves so dearly, let's consider how most people would feel in the same situation. Depressed? You bet. Angry at the situation? Damn right. Despairing, losing faith, hating life? Probably.

Jason has refused to let any of this get him down. He maintains steadfastly that he will be healed and puts on a good face every time he wakes up in the morning. He is unfailingly cheerful and upbeat, appearing at benefits and concerts in his name when his strength permits. He's found ways to continue writing and recording the music that he loves so, with the aid of computers and tireless assistance from his friends and fellow musicians. The last I heard, he was planning to get married to his girlfriend Serrana.

No, I don't think Jason's a semi-deity. But to stay cheerful and positive, find ways to beat the disease that's wearing him down, and still manage to keep on with his music in the face of all he's gone through -- well, I call that a triumph. *You* can call it what *you* want (and I'm sure you will).

    Ta, Phil

Is this a joke? DMB are not jazz, they are a pop band with good musicians and a wide variety of influences but what it comes down to is they write catchy tunes. I don't know what your definition of jazz is....do you think Kenny G is jazz too? The only jazz influence I hear in DMB is some of the drumming. Dave Matthews' singing has nothing to do with jazz, nor his guitar playing. and CERTAINLY not the songwriting. Jazz is about improvisation, DMB write structured songs. I won't even bother going on because it's so ridiculous. The death metal band Cynic probably has more jazz influences than DMB. I don't feel like I have to bring up a jazz history lesson because I'm not sure how much knowledge you have on the subject....but if you are indeed a knowledgable jazz person I'd like to hear your logic.
