I disagree actually. Have you played a JPM series? I had the same
concerns
when I was looking into purchasing one. I agree the price is probably
too high
but as far as a direct comparison to the RG570 I desagree. I also have
one of
those and they don't play or sound very similar. To start with the feel
of the
neck (and action) on the JPM is far superior. The pick-ups sound much
better
and it is very quiet in comparison...my RG makes some awful hum. Since
i play
Dream Theater style music I don't find much use for vintage guitars so I
couldn't
give a fair evaluation/comparison for the JPM in that field. Although I
did play
a Fender with the Stevie Ray Vaughn Pick-ups...what a great clean sound
they have!
Distorted was way too thin, the JPM has a real crystal clean sound -
great for acoustic
sounding stuff, but not as good for clean soloing. It all depends on
your sytle I think.
The only annoying thing about the JPM is where they put the pick-up
selector seems to be
slightly in my way, and it is a tiny little switch (not like the
original one Petrucci
usually plays.)
It's a pretty big price...but you wouldn't be disappointed with the
JPM. What color are
the new ones? I have the second generation. I would love the original
- blue/yellow/green
and blue - but they never made that for resale.)

Uh, oh. I *never* said it was my opinion that "The Nice" sucked,
because I don't even *know* what they sound like. Please, don't jump on

Well, I know Joe Stump can do sextuplets at 206 bpm. I know people who have seen it. Truthfully, to me, being fast isn't everything about speed. I am far more impressed by a guitarist who can do sextuplets at 190 bpm, than 206, if they have fluidity in their playing (i.e.-Jason Becker, George Bellas, Joe Stump)

I just was expressing a deep desire to experience another show as breathtaking(literally) as the last one here in Northern Virginia. I hate to face the fact that I may never be that close to OFB again, what with Ticketmaster and f***ing scalpers snagging any decent tickets to arena/outdoor shows. Anyway, glad I could elicit a response, and thanks for the new asshole!

According to QR internet magazine 'Screaming In Digital', NO he isn't, he produced Scott Rockenfield's side project and is helping out with the new QR album, but is not the new guitarist.
Aren't you jumping to conclusion's when you have haven't heard any of the guys songs are guitar playing yet ? Dokken is hardly grunge ?

OK, bad wording on my part. The reason I wrote was around the time Yngwie came out, there were several guitarists who "copied" Yngwie and said that they were really doing it before Yngwie.
Guitarists egos aside, I checked the dates of release on some of the Yngwie influenced guitarists in my collection. Might be of trivial interest, considering that many of these guitarists are often discussed here:
1983 - Steeler - with Yngwie just playing lead to their songs. This was arranged by Mike Varney, who was like the Magna Carta of neoclassical speed metal.
1983 - Alcatrazz/No Parole - Yngwie wrote most of the music. Great disc. Yngwie escaped Mike Varney control.
1984 - Yngwie's Rising Force - Yngwie's first solo, mostly instrumental.
1985 - Yngwie/Marching Out
1985 - Tony MacAlpine/Edge of Insanity (A MV release)
1986 - Joe Satriani/Not of This Earth - Very little Yngwie influence (Except maybe the title track). Joe was (is) very original. But the success of Yngwie may have made it possible for Joe to get a "guitar" recording released.
1986 - Vinnie Moore/Minds Eye (Another MV release)
1987 - Cacophony/Speed Metal Symphony - Jason Becker and Marty Friedman. (Yet another couple of guitarists that MV discovered.)
1987 - Testament/The Legacy - Alex Skolnick added a little Yngwie style to this thrash/speed metal.
1988 - Impellitteri/Stand In Line - You could call this Alcatrazz part 2. Hard to tell it from the first Alcatrazz album.
1989 - Dream Theater/WDADU - Petrucci threw in some heavy doses of Yngwie. Expecially on AFiL, Ytsejam and Afterlife.
199? - Symphony X - They're doing Yngwie better than Yngwie.
And of course there are probably a lot of others, but this is enough typing for me (when did Vai's Flexible come out?)...

i must agree with Kez on that last show at Jaxx, it was the best DT show i have ever seen yet. and i gotta agree with mike, i think DT should get the respect they deserve and never get. look at ac/dc playing in front of 500 billion people, and all they have to do is play 3 power chords and chew on some glass then sing.
