I've been listening to the MP3s Dr Mosh has on his page of this great band.
Does anyone know if $25 dollars is about the going price for Holy Land?
(since it's an import?) Thats what CD Now has it for. From the songs I
heard, it would be well worth it but I don't wanna pay more than I have
to....

Attention all planets of the Jammer Federation...
All this talk about Stanley Jordan brings to mind two vastly different yet incredibly brilliant practitioners of the two-handed tapping technique: Reb Beach -- yeah, the guy who used to be in those goofy Winger videos -- and T.J. Helmerich, who's made two amazing (mostly instrumental) albums with an Australian six-string phenomenon named Brett Garsed (the latter would probably rather you forget that he was in *Nelson*, of all bands). IMO, Reb Beach and Rod Morgenstein were the only reasons Winger was ever halfway listenable; the former's solos are so breathtaking that I often find myself fast-forwarding through those big, hooky choruses just to hear those tapped cascades and flurries of notes, so crystalline and smooth, so elegant in the way they flow off the fretboard. Perfect example: "Seventeen," which is a big, dumb brute of an MTV video song, all swaggering, macho lyrics, singalong chorus and huge snare sound -- then Beach unleashes one of the most devastating solos I've ever heard, notes swarming like angry, frenzied bees, spinning and swirling from the speakers in a torrent of virtuosity. Meanwhile, T.J. Helmerich's searing two-handed work with Brett Garsed is probably the most amazing tapping stuff I've ever heard; to my ear, it sounds as though he never, ever picks a note. His solos are like liquid mercury, all curves and circles, contrasting beautifully with Garsed's frenetic, angular speed-picking runs. No one I've heard has a smoother, more articulated tapping style than Helmerich, and that's why I rank him as one of the top five or six guitarists on the planet. (Hmm...Holdsworth, Vai, Morse, Petrucci, Lane, Greg Howe and Helmerich...that sounds about right...) Any of you out there know of any other brilliant two-hand tappers besides Eddie Van Halen (who did NOT invent the technique, contrary to popular belief) and the aforementioned Stanley Jordan? I'd mention the likes of Michael Manring, Stuart Hamm and John Alderete, but they're *bass* players, and that's a whole other thread... <grin>

Well, I have the same opinion, but these guys are just TOO NICE ;-) They will pay all the costs of making these tapes by their self, just to present you their awesome music.
Don't forget that, as far as I know, there are still 3 kick ass songs on APOCOLOKYNTOSYS which aren't on the demo tape.

It depens on MAGNA CARTA and if they will release it in America or not. You can help Empty Tremor and send a good recomandation to Magna Carta and request the realese of the album for North and South America.

Long ago, in a Ytsecon far, far away, a man named Trey Allen crafted some large Majesty-logo decals that were made of thin, clear adhesive paper. The logos came in red, black, and a few other colors. Does anyone know if it's still possible to get a black one? Or one of any color for that matter? Has someone else made Majesty stickers that were of the size and quality of Trey's since then? 3x5" I think.

Hi all,
Well, it looks like the consensus is McDonald's across the street from the club. Be there whenever you can, but be aware that doors open at 8, and I, as well as others, will be going straight to the front. Plan on a late night, as a meet with the band after the show is our goal. Well, mine anyway :~)
The phone for Daytona's is 410-255-5533
The directions are as follows(from I-95):
Take the Route 100 east exit(toward Glen Burnie) from 95. Follow all signs CAREFULLY to stay on Route 100(toward Gibson Island). After crossing Route 10, take Edwin Rainer Blvd. exit(2nd exit after Route 10). Take a right at top of ramp onto Edwin Rainer Blvd. Continue on until Edwin Rainer Blvd. dead-ends into Fort Smallwood Road(at a stoplight). Turn left onto Fort Smallwood Road. Go approximately 1 mile(through 2 lights) and at the third light, Daytona's should be on your right, McDonald's should be on your left. Turn right at light and park behind the club, then stroll over to McD's to meet the rest of the gang! Good luck and BE CAREFUL!
If further info is needed, e-mail me ASAP.
Can't wait to see you guys, Carpe Tuesday, Kez

I read about JP doing a legato thing in Trial of Tears and it sounding like Steve Vai. What is legato? I play guitar but I have no huge technical knowledge. What about someone telling me what legato is, and it would also be cool if someone would make a list of interesting things that happen in songs ("nice polyphrasic rhythm changes", "short arabic pentaphrygian riff", that kind of stuff), and at what time. (Yes, that was the new thread, or at least an attempt at a proposal).

Whooops,
something went wrong when I mailed The Jam (tm) some days ago to promote our new radio show, PROG-O-RAMA. The station and frequency was left out, too late now, but when we return, the 30th of May we're at FM 95,3 MHz. That is, in Stockholm, Sweden. The first program's playlist follows:
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray, part IV Praxis - Interface/Stimulation Loop Rush - By-Tor & the Snow Dog Dream Theater special w/ interview (James & Derek) * Lines in the Sand * 6:00 * Showdown (live) * Status Seeker (live) King Crimson - Cat Food Return to Forever - Excerpt from the First Movement of Heavy Metal Dream Theater - Raise the Knife (live)
That's it. Hopefully we'll be able to continue, at least once a month. My apologies to Stockholm jammers who missed the show due to my error, be sure, though, that you can expect a lot more DT on future shows.
Sincerely,
Mats Rydström

It didn't look like a real boot, but who can tell. CC doesn't usually traffic in illegal merch, so I think it's legit. I would love to hear material from any tour Morse played on, so someone gimme the scoop.
