They will pay all the costs of making these tapes by their self, just to
    present you their awesome music.

Don't forget that, as far as I know, there are still 3 kick ass songs on

You can help Empty Tremor and send a good recomandation to Magna Carta and

Well, I know (because I've heard boots of early stuff with Mustaine) that Kirk's
solos on Kill 'Em All were written by somebody else before he was in the band
(by Mustaine, I assume). It seems that Burton was the only one in the group who
knew shit from shinola, musically, so I'm inclined to believe that he wrote
Hammet's solos for Ride the Lightning/Master of Puppets.

Just about any ELP fan you'll ask will tell you to start with "Brain Salad
Surgery." It's got the full version of Karn Evil 9 (more than just the 5
minutes you hear on the radio), as well as some other ELP staples. (I forget
which now, since the CD is at home.)

Of course, you could do what I did. Get a Greatest Hits CD, and decide from
there which albums to pursue, based on what you like most. (BTW, after
getting the greatest hits, I got BSS next. :)

I've been wondering for some time now...is that festival actually called
ProgEst, or is it a more reasonable "ProgFest?" What would a prog Est session
be like, anyway? Naziesque seminar administrators forcing instrumentalists to
overcome their playing difficulties? "Those aren't 32nd notes!! What the
fuck's wrong with you?" "No, you can't just play chords, ya pussy!" "You
call that a polyrhythm?" "That bass has two few strings, sonny." "That
keyboard's under regulation size, and it needs to be on a flying platform!"
(extremely feeble attempt at humor...those who know what Est is might get it)

On a more serious note...what if DT made a video for New Millennium, it became
a hit (which I think is very possible), and they did an MTV Unplugged special?
What songs would you want them to play? Why?

Well from what I've read on here, Brain Salad Surgery is suppose to be one of the ultimate progressive cds around.

since I've gotten a real computer here at work, one with a cdrom drive, I decided to go through my whole cd collection and bring 5-6 cds a day to work until I have listened to all 600+ of them... I'm currently at the D's so that means a lot of DT, Dokken, and Def Leppard...

I would suggest "Brain Salad Surgery". It's got a nice huge epic track (Karn Evil 9) and, while it does have one "throwaway" track (Benny the Bouncer -- ugh) it's got a good 40 minutes of music that kicks in the same way Tarkus (the song) does.

Get - Ladies and Gentleman "Welcome Back my friends to the show that never ends". It IS a very good live album. (2 cd) - Triogy (this one has Hoedown) - Brian Salad Surgery (If I'm correct this one has Karn Evil 9) Albums from "Love Beach" until now are pretty commercial and boring.

I would suggest pick up "Brain Salad Surgery" next, and after that, "Trilogy". These are both great albums. Then you might want to pick their self-titled album, and then move on to their later stuff.

    Some guy asked:

<< So, I'm interested in the opinions of everybody (bassists, other musicians, non-musicians) on what makes a bass player good, and how, if at all, they may be compared. >>

I'm a guitarist and here is what I think makes a good bass player:

I write the bass parts and he plays them EXACTLY as I have written them. The only time he speaks is when I he has something better, but he/she knows when to back down when I am right - which is always. So lets leave it at he doesn't speak.

(The bass player doesn't have to be a he, you can read this with she in there if it helps you sleep at night)

And if a bass player shows me a pick, I'll show him (her) the door.

"Brain Salad Surgery" is one of the all-time very very best progressive albums. The "ELP" self-titled first album is also highly recommended-lots of piano & Hammond organ; less synthesisers-this is from the early days of the Moog. "Trilogy" is also quite good, almost on a par with title piece from "Tarkus".

Hi, I'm a die-hard ELP fan, and I'm glad you asked :):):) I've got the entire cataloge, and my opinion is that "Black Moon" and "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" are the best. Also great are "Works Volume One," and if you liked Tarkus, you'll love "Trilogy" and the self titled debut album. "Brain Salad Surgery" has some really cool moments, but drags here and there.

AVIOD "Works Volume 2" and "Love Beach" at all costs!!!!!!!! They royally suck.

Also, the video is for intermediate/ advanced players, right? I'm a total beginner, but thought it would be cool to get anyhow, but it wouldn't be worth it (to me) for $50.

Hi, I am new to the list and I am writing from France. I saw DT twice on their last European tour and they were amazing (Can you believe it?). The last date,in Bourges, James had a bad cold and only sang for half the show, but it just made you wonder if he can be bad someday. i thought I had to share that with you. On another matter: I have a copy of the cd "Scenes from a memory" but I don't have the explanation paper that should be inside, can anyone tell me where are the songs on that cd coming from. Also, I never understood where those numbered cds were coming from ( I only have two of them) as I don't think they are bootlegs. Can I also have some explaining on that matter? I hope new ones are still coming out. Fabrice
