Here's my story in a nutshell... In 1989 a friend of mine made
me a tape of WDADU. They've been my favourite band ever since,
along with Marillion. A coupla months after I "discovered" DT,
I read in a Dutch progrock magazine that Dominici was asked to
leave and that DT lost their record deal. I kinda assumed that
was the end of DT. I didn't even know they were still together
      until IAW was released !

And now I'm running a Dream Theater website, that gets between
      700 and 800 visits a day. :-)

      The End.
    ____

      Policastro Cosimo asked :

    > (where are you from Lisa??)

      Heaven. :-)

      Fabrice Dray asked :

    > Hey "digital man", how old are you?

You can look it up on the Ytsejam birthday calendar at :

I think they've changed only as far as a great band's evolution and in the
process may become more accesible to a larger audience. What's wrong with
that? FII is an awsome album by my measure. Do you want them to be another
Boston? As for Rush, I was a huge Rush fan and still listen to them a lot,
but frankly I just don't listen to anything made after "Moving Pictures."
To me, Rush lost their integrity - IMO. (flame away!)

I hope OFB's audience grows and they sell more records -> make more money.
As MP said, it means they'll be able to make more music - key point. If
they "sell-out" I'll stop buying records. (Although I am now being a
hypocrit 'cause I have every Rush album even though I don't listen to the
new ones much, I guess I'm always hoping the next one will WOW me the way
they used to - another subject.)

YES, I think your were being an asshole for persisting with the same line
of questioning. I OBJECT - You're badgering the witness!

YES, I think you're a major asshole for posting private emails. Although I
enjoyed reading MP's thoughts, it's still a very uncool violation of
    netiquett!

I'm glad to see MP took the high road and didn't put you in your place
himself (I think this forum will do it in a violent and entertaining way).
It's amazing to me that he continued to reply to you as often as he did!

I'm going to sit back and really enjoy this thread! Thanks for providing a
    subject for discussion.

I just got my introduction CD from Open All Night Records called "Into the
Great Unknown." All of the tracks are great and sound great. There are
two DT tracks UAGM and PS. They are amazing. This CD is well worth
getting! ! ! Plus it is not priced out of this world, $10. Here is a list
    of the tracks listed.

Dream Theater --Under A Glass Moon
    Dream Theater --Peruvian Skies
    Megadeth --Angry Again
    Megadeth --Mechanix
    Savatage --The Wake of Magellan
    Savatage --Dead Winter Dead
    Paradise Lost --Disappear
    Paradise Lost --Ember Fire
    Vanden Plas --Rainmaker
    Vanden Plas --Father (acoustic version)
Gamma Ray --Valley Of The Kings
    Hammerfall --Dragon Lies Bleeding
    Royal Hunt --Stranded (acoustic version)

Besides LTE, this is the best CD I have gotten this year! Go order it.
    You won't regret it.

Sounds like you've got a winner for "The most kick ass time on The
    FII tour" so far. :)

    > > Portnoy around two weeks ago. You be the judge: is DT losing its

    > > upon?

I didn't get 3860, but this is all I need to see, for my own
    purposes.

Okay... you are entitled to your opinion of their music. But so is
Mike entitled to his, and so is each member of this list entitled to
his/hers. My own opinion is that if this were a sell out, they'd
have lost LaBrie for someone who could whine better, and lost
Petrucci for someone out of tune. They would have cut off one of
Portnoy's arms and legs, and given him 1/4 of his kit to play on.
Myung would be missing fingers, and they'd find some way to make his
bass only playable below the 5th fret. Derek, well... as long as he
still dresses goofy, all they'll have to do is turn him down, and
    make him lip sync. :)
Now I have a question for you, Serrousi. What genre is Dream
Theater trying to be in, if they're trying to sell out? What genre
could you fit this whole album in, that might qualify FII as a sell
out? I can't think of one. And to me, this sounds more DT than
ever. Of course, I'm the one who says this is a more "mature album"
which some of you just can't accept (the concept of Mature... because
it is ambiguous). I would never kiss Portnoy's ass, or any other DT
member's ass. I'll never go up to them bubbling over and saying "You
guys are like totally my gods. Can I be like you?" I don't feel
that my opinion of FII is influenced by any need to kiss their asses.
I hope that you never try to make music, Serrousi. Because you may
just get an opportunity to be questioned by someone as disrespectful
as yourself, and you WILL fail to yeild a polite response. We know
your personality from your many posts to this list. Go on burning
your bridges and closing your mind a little further.

    Hi,

On the subject of Charlie D. Yes I admit he doesn't have the best voice
out there... but sometimes it reminded me of Geddy Lee (bassist and
vocals of Rush). And maybe for people who have never listen to Rush,
this is difficult to appreciate this kind of vocals.

However, IMHO, I really think the songs on this album is great, much
better than on Falling Into Infinity (now this is my opinion). I don't
dislike FII, I just think the order of the songs aren't that great and
each time you hit a good song, the next one will probably be not as
good... so the tension is not rising, but always at the same level.

WDADU was a great musical CD and only to have the original YtseJam and
Light Fuse and Get Away, I would have kept it if I was the guy who said
he brought it back to the store... I really think you made a mistake !

Of course, it would be great if DT consider re-recording some parts of
WDAD and even the Majesty Demos... like Iced Earth have done for its
    "Days In Purgatory" CDs.

    ---

On the other subject, I just bought Myst=E8re de Notre Dame... WOW !!! A really good album !!! A must-have for any DT fan IMHO... remind me of Awake at times.

    Best regards Chris

DT puts out music for us to enjoy. They do deserve some respect from us. The band respects the fans so it should be the other way around also. Serousi showed a complete lack of respect.

Whoohoo! Itchy is the new moderator! Isn't there a problem with this - I mean, won't he have like a total monopoly on Dream Theater Internet stuff - I mean, first, the widely plugged, (understandably) and thoroughly informative Under a Cyber Moon (I'd put the addy here but it's been posted so many times I've blocked it from my brain! :) and now moderator of the Ytsejam Mailing List. Sheesh, somenoe get the FTC over here quick. Next thing you know, he'll be selling boots of DT, as well as developing YtseCash for purchase of DT members' unmentionables as well over the Net........fear Itchy, for he is wiser than all and he will soon take over all that is Ytse. hmm.......say it, everyone .... "ytse".....now say "itchy". Coincidence? I think not.

By the way - Seroussi - you're a douche - for multiple reasons, including the whole posting of private conversations, arguing in an uninformed manner to a member of DT, basically quashing his integrity as a musician - hopefully you didn't mention the fact that you're a Ytsejammer, though it was probably understood.

May you get anally violated by a dried out corn cob.

Whoohoo! Ithcy is the new moderator of Ytsejam! Congratz! Hey, wait a second - does anyone else see a problem with this. I mean, with this, he's sure to have a monopoly on Dream Theater Internet information. I mean, first you have the unendingly plugged (understandably) and informative Under a Cyber Moon (I would put the addy here, but I've seen it so many times, I've blocked it from memory), and now moderator of the Ytsejam mailing list? I dunno - someone better call the FTC really quick. I mean, the next thing you'll know he'll have a Most Frequent Poster webpage, know every Ytsejammers' birthday, start selling DT boots (by basically taking over all others), and then, to top it all off (shudder) - the introduction of YtseCash to be used by all to purchase DT members' unmentionables....Oh, fellow brethren (and sistren) of this list...BEWARE!, for Itchy is wiser and more cunning than us all....he is everything Ytse, and this is just one step closer to total Ytsedomination.....c'mon now, say it with me....."yt-se".....now say "it-chy"....coincidence? I think not.

As a vocalist in a progressive rock band, I was hoping to shed a little light on the subject for the twit posting private email to the list...

You have three options as a musician that isn't signed to a record deal:

    1) You can make music you know will make you money. You may or may not like this music. It doesn't matter to you as long as it makes you money.

    2) You can make music you like and not really care about money. This is what most "artists" like to believe they're doing.

    3) You can make music you like, and try and make money doing it. A realistic approach to it all, don't you think?

I'm a network engineer by trade. At nights, I'm a vocalist in a progressive rock band. Let's put a couple things into perspective here: 1) I have to have some sort of income in order to pay my rent, feed myself, and keep myself happy with assorted toys and what not. I do this by working 9-5 everyday. Do I get my hands greasy? Does it matter? I work and get my money. 2) I love to make music. However, since most of society has chosen to look the other way of the genre of music my band produces, chances are I'm going to have a hard time making money at it.

Now, if I could roll the two into one... If there was a way I could get people to -pay- for the music that -I love to make- am I selling out? If I had toured the world playing to less-than-5,000-people gigs, and then a larger band comes along and says, "Hey, you wanna open for us?" what kind of idiot do you think I'd be to say, "No. That'd be selling out." ? I'm a progressive rock musician. If I'd toured the world over playing tiny clubs and a group like Smashing Pumpkins came along and said, "Hey, wanna open shows for us?" do you really think I'd say no? Do you realize the exposure? Do you realize that I'd have people listening to me that would never have considered me otherwise? Is it selling out? No. It's selling records, which tell me I have money to make more of the music I love.

Get it through your head that Mike and the rest of the boys aren't selling out. They're insuring we hear more of them.
