mike, john, john, james, and derek "the rock star"- you all rule!!!! ====================================================================

well, no UaGM, ANM, Scarred, Ytsejam, Voices...like in Columbus in Oct...

but they added TTT, Lie, Paradigm Shift (from LTE), CiaW, LtL, ToT...

great show!!!! they had a lot of teasers, like "Freebird" and "Hot for Teacher," plus Pink Floyd and Metallica teasers during Peruvian Skies. excellent. derek's intro to LitS was longer, and cooler than last time.

also, the end of PMU, they sang "Pull My Finger."

also, i liked Portnoy's drum solo better this time, and he got the crowd into it, really. he brought a drum out to the crowd.

    and the end/encore was a Metrop/LtL/ACOS medley...

    Later, Dan

How much of my drive space is going to be taken up by off subject ramblings like the above? I work 14 hour days, and barely have time to read through the real e-mail. Now when I get 6+ jams a day filled with useless ramblings, endless taunts, arguments over 'how much better Floyd is', and how MP/DT is a sellout just cause they want to earn a decent living ('nuff said to THAT 'serious' a-hole).... I ALMOST want to get off the jam. Who gives a RATS ASS about SNL or PUFF DADDY SHIT FOR BRAINS? I DON'T!!! This is SUPPOSED to be a newsletter for FANS of DT and SIMILAR bands to voice views and news. I'm NOT saying you all can't have differing taste and appreciate other forms of music. But I for one, and several others that I know of, want THIS forum to stay true to what it is called YTSEJAM....NOT ' Various things that everyone (who just happens to like DT) likes.' Can we PLEASE trim the activity down to PROG news and views. This trash had gotten so thick in recent weeks (meaning I had quite even reading the subject headings) that I didn't even know about the NY and Philly shows until it was too late to get to them (ah well, so much for seeing DT this tour... the life of a road warrior!!!) If I don't float away from all the rain here in the wilds of PA, maybe I'll be lucky and get to see them sometime in the fall. Meanwhile, I'ld LIKE to hear about Prog in general, opinions and things technical and not-so-technical....but PLEASE no more 'just cause you're blind does'nt mean you can't be expected to spell rite'? BULLSHIT!!! Life is TOO short to go around wasting EVERYBODIES TIME putting other people down (a PERFECT person wouldn't HAVE to cast the first stone). In other words "GROW UP PEOPLE" no matter how old you really are! TEMPUT FUGITS.....CARPE DIEM (TIME FLIES.....

    Then, Matt Grginic replied,

    >I VERY much doubt that that`s the way PD does his business, if u know >this for a fact then say so, don`t just ASSUME and make PD look like >some musical idiot who`s stealing other people`s stuff and putting his >label on it. Leave the rap for rappers, enjoy prog if >that`s what makes you happy. I wish sometimes there was more musical >tolerance among the jammers. (I just bought Anouk`s CD and like it very >much..anyone have a problem with it?)

Maybe that's not the way PD does his business, and you are correct in stating that I assumed, which was wrong of me. You then, however, blow your whole email to shit by ASSUMING that me 'and a couple of other simmilar fellas here are in no position to judge objectively.' Who clued you in to what my musical preferences were? How do you know that I don't like rap/hip-hop/R&B? For the record, Matt, I do like rap. Not all of it, but then, I don't like all prog, but I don't think that makes me a bad jammer.

And as far as wishing there was more musical tolerance among the jammers: I'll put money on it that you'd have to search long and hard to find a more musically tolerant or appreciative group out there on the Internet. I'm constantly impressed with the level of appreciation that the people on this list have for a wide variety of musical styles, and have broadened my horizons with recommendations from them - people I have never met, but whose judgement I trust.

    I"M WITH GRAHM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP catering to this guys crap...just stop. I am still on a high from the Irving Plaza show, and I don't want to be brought into a dark Floyd funk with all of this. A lot of Floyd tunes do that to me. I've realized that most PF tunes tend to make me feel depressed. But that band will always have a special place inside me.

BUT Dream THeater always puts a smile on my face. It gives me energy. Whatever, this whole message is getting weird. Can we please save the PF talk for the PF lists. Thanks very much. I'm, sure I'm not alone on this one.

    Later All,

    -Raf-

BTW, everyone should go get the LTE disc. It's soooo cool. This CD has shown me why J. Rudess could probably never fit into DT. ================================== "Sometimes, the anguish we survive, And the mysteries we nurture, are the fabrics of our lives..." In a message dated 98-05-11 23:54:23 EDT, you write:

<< Anyway, on the one thread that I have an opinion on, I would say to get a pair of Sonic II earplugs, to the person who was asking. I got mine for like $12-$15 at a music store, and they do a really good job, filtering about evenly, as opposed tho the foam ones, which let in way too much bass, and little of anything else, IMO. >>

These are the exact models that I wore at the Daytona's show, and it took 5 days to get my full hearing back. They were highly recommended, but I found them wholly inadequate. Granted, the sound during the show was much better than with the foam type, and there was none of the painful screeching that comes with over-amplification in a small club, but the 5 days of postshow ear- ringing just weren't worth it. I'm going back to foam.

I sure wish that there were some decent size stages here in the D.C. area that OFB could play. I'm sick of missing all of the second-kit songs, and not seeing the guys being able to move around a little. Oh well, no further complaints. At least I got to see them(Sorry Damon).

Last but not least, Bafu, you are the greatest! I even had my wife(who is not a 'Jammer) laughing hysterically at that 'orangutan boy' post. What a great story, better than pictures! Thanks.

I've mentioned this one before but one of my favourite Magna Carta CDs is "Tales of Yesterdays - Yes Tribute". It's an ideal album to use as a springboard into the whole Yes scene - I personally have difficulty with the airy-fairy vocals but many of the reworkings of classic Yes songs make the Yes' originals a lot more accessible (that's not a bad thing). I have heard this mentioned a few times about this album so I'm not alone.

Anyone interested in checking out Yes' music should stick this album near the top of your shopping list.

    Just a thought,

Mr. Ptacek said.... > Yeah. Prog is ridiculous bullshit too. All those dudes with all > that hair, screaming like little girls and playing guitar as fast as > they can. At least they PLAY INSTRUMENTS, unlike "rap aritsts" *LOL*..... rap artists....... heheheh.

    > All those time signature changes just to make it > impossible to really groove on, and to make sure they show us who > knows more about how to write a hard riff. > Come on. Anyone who puts down a complete genre of music as > bullshit is a fucking shithead.

    I guess I'm a shithead then.......

Seriously though, I admit I should have added a big ol' ---IMO--- after my statements. (and I AM entitled to my OWN opinion, aren't I?)

May I also explain why I HATE rap with such a passion? Thanks. I never cared about rap before (neither liked, nor hated), because I didn't have to hear it ALL THE TIME. Now, almost every person I work with listens to it (90%), my girlfriend listens to it, and probably 60-70% of my friends!

The ONLY time I can ever listen to my own damn music (DT, Savatage, SG, PF etc.) Is when I'm by myself! If I go to a party I have to listen to rap! In my own fucking car (if I'm with my girlfriend) she bitches at me to "turn this fucking shit off" (DT)! I can't hold a decent conversation with anyone about rock music (much less PROG). They'd much rather chat about Puff Daddy, or Tupac (or 2pac, or however the hell he spells it), or the new Busta Rhymes CD!

Having to hear it all the time sucks I tell you! That's why the 'jam is so cool........ a chance to talk about music that's important to ME!

    Okay, I'm done ranting.......

    Thanks,

    Joe DeAngelo
