And now I have to break in with some bad news for all of you east coast

I DO feel sorry for you. (No sarcasm!)

Man, I would have snatched a new girlfriend immediately. Since music is my
passion, I can't stand if the person I
*have to* live with have intolerance against MY opinion. Then again, am I
such a freakin' ego so only MY opinion matters... guess that's why I don't
have any girlfriend... noone likes prog... <:-(

For me too - I am the only DT fan I know about in my home town!

Cry me a river. You don't like the topics? There's a neat little button
called 'page down' that I use every weekend when I come into work and have
14 jams waiting for me. It's a great invention that lets me skip over the
things I don't want to read, like, "Hey, anyone going to the California
show?" type stuff (since I live in Boston, MA - no offense to all the Cali
jammers here), or "SPOILERS!!". Don't expect a list of 1000+ people to cater
to your every whim, and don't expect to get anywhere with a shitty attitude.

Hey guys
This might (i m sure it has already been) already been discussed,
but here i go anyway:
Why in hell did DT put out LatM with only 6 songs in it? They could have
squeezed at least 2 more songs they did in the same show, couldn t they?
I love the damn album, but it definetly doesnt give a good impression of
a kick ass live band like DT, who usually bust their asses in the stage
for 2 and a half hours........several times a year..........

Yep.. he can also either : unsub completely from the list... or change into ack
mode, when he gets his 65-100 or so emails at the end of the day, sort
everything by topic ( if you are using Winblows most mail programs do this ) and
erase every msg with topics you dont care for, without having to page down on
the whole digest.

Sup folks?
Alright... The YtseCrew from Atlanta (ended up being only Paul Cashman and
myself) left around 7:00pm on Friday night for the ass-numbing 12-13 hour
drive to Philadelphia to see our boys at the Electric Factory. After
crashing at 5:00am Saturday morning at a rest stop in Virginia we arrived
at our hotel around 11:30am. We decided to take a look at the venue since
we couldn't get a room until noon, so we headed towards downtown. Now,
while the Electric Factory was easy to find, the way back to our hotel was
not. We ended up in Jersey - the land of no left turns. Grrrr...
After much hair pulling and teeth gnashing we stumbled our way back to the
hotel where we called and left a message for Syrinx and made a 5pm wake up
call (the operator got a chuckle out of that) so we could take a nap before
the madness began later that night. After talking to Syrinx and making
arrangements to meet, we headed out about 6pm. When we got there at 6:30
(doors at 8:30) there was already a pretty substantial line outside the
Factory, which was promising. Less promising was the fact that after we
got our tickets and backstage passes from willcall we were separated into a
guys and girls line by a guy who looked like all he needed for a good time
was a garden hose, two toothpicks, and some mayonaise. He donned the
rubber gloves, executed the body cavity search, and we were in!
The venue was much larger than I expected. I heard outside that it held
3800 people, and while I'm not sure if that's true, it was at least 3000.
We ended up dead center in the second "row" of what seemed like the almost
sold-out Factory...
<rant> Full on the Mouth opened, and ordinarily that's all I'd say about
this virtually talentless band, but something bothered me during their set.
People were _really_ giving them a hard time and while the lead singer DID
look strikingly like Sammy Hagar, all the ragging and yelling were totally
unnecessary. People were making fun of their music and calling them names
with them right there on the stage, and you could tell the singer was
bothered a bit by it. It was funny for a minute, but Jesus, these guys are
up there playing as well as they can and doing what alot of people in the
crowd did was simply immature and childish. Paul Cashman brought up a
great point during trip. He mentioned that DT might get some of the same
treatment at the DP/ELP tour shows - and he's right. I don't give a damn
how much you don't like a band. When they're up there doing the best they
can leave them alone - ie, grow the fuck up. </rant>
Alright. After all the studio demos and "ROOOOOOOOOOOSTER!!!" DT took the
stage and played about the same set they played at Irving Plaza the night
before. I was worried a bit about James' voice since it was the third of
three shows in a row, but damn was I pleasantly surprised. They opened
with ACOS I/II and moved into JLMB. The highlight of the first part of the
show, however, was Take the Time. Mike, as he has previously, sang the
opening lines and then James came in with "Time for a Change" and hit it
better than I've heard him do since the I&W tour. The extended Freebird
jam at the end was really spectacular and the guys really looked like they
were having a good time. Later in the show I caught a thrown drumstick,
along with 20 other people. After ripping it out of their hands I realized
that I'd collected someone's eyeball on the tip. I tossed it on the floor,
wiped the stick off on a passerby's shirt, and I was good to go.
Other highlight of the show included Speak to Me, Portnoy drumming on
everything in sight (monitors, stage floor, mics, etc) and then having a
fan play with him. Caught in a Web was a surprise - I've thought recently
that it's the best heavy track from Awake from a lyrical standpoint. Lie
with Derek and Portnoy tossing sticks at eachother was amusing. Peruvian
Skies with Have a Cigar in the middle was a great touch, and there was a
bit of Enter Sandman somewhere in there (don't remember which song). Trial
of Tears was excellent and James was right on again. The Metrop > LTL >
ACOS VII encore was, again, spectacular.
The only disappointment in the show (tho' they were incredibly minor) were
the lack of Scarred or Voices. However, I got to see both in Atlanta in
December, so it really didn't matter. This was by far the best show I've
ever seen - blows the Atlanta show away. They get tighter everytime I hear
them and as they grow more and more accustomed to the new stuff they seem
to be able to really flow well from song to song and have a great time
doing so.
After the show a bunch of Jammers met at the front of the floor and
everyone seemed really cool. It was great meeting Mike (Syrinx), Chris,
Shawn, Vanessa, and several other people who I feel bad about forgetting.
Everyone was really cool and outgoing.
Now, the best part - backstage. There were probably 20-25 people with
backstage passes. We were herded into a surprisingly nice conference-type
room with (Thank the Light), a water cooler. I hadn't had a drink since
about 5:30pm, so I was pretty parched. After a little while the band
members starting coming in one by one to say hello. I was really surprised
at the time they took to talk with us. James (who claims he's getting rid
of the 'stache and possibly going the goatee route), Mike and JP stayed for
about 20 minutes each talking - though they were all there at different
times. It was a really cool atmosphere. Alot of the people there were
Jammers and so knew how to handle themselves around their favorite artists.
There was no fawning and no begging for autographs, just chatting like
normal people, and it was great. Mike had his little girl with him, along
with his wife, and he seemed willing to shoot the shit all night, but
family beckoned and he needed to go. After about an hour backstage the
bouncers for the Factory (the nicest and most professional I've ever seen)
asked us to leave, so we headed out towards the tourbus. I got Mike to
sign the stick I caught there and he made sure he had my email, etc... A
class act all around.
The only problem I had backstage was with Derek. He came in to see
Vanessa and ignored everyone else. People were telling him how much they
enjoyed the show and he didn't even glance at them. He did this in Atlanta
too, so I'm not all that keen on him. Like Syrinx said at Denny's at
3:00am after the show, "I'm not anti-Derek, I'm just pro-Kevin." I've
gotta agree on that point...
The drive back to Atlanta wasn't quite as bad as the drive up, simply
because it was in the daytime (mostly) and we'd had a few hours sleep
beforehand. It DID rain the whole fuckin' trip, which was pretty
obnoxious, but seeing DT was worth all the trials and tribulations. :)
****** The most important thing to remember about this excursion, however,
is this. Syrinx is da man, Chris is da man, Paul is da man, and Adam is
REALLY da man - but Mike Portnoy is 'DA SHIT. :) Thanks, Mike, for a
great show and your generosity.
I hope I didn't bore anyone, but I've got one more thing to say. If
ANYONE has a tape of this show PLEASE get in touch with me. I've got
plenty to trade and should be getting the whole Japanese run in the next
couple of weeks, so I'd appreciate any help in this. Take care all, and if
you have to travel halfway around the world, _go see this show_.

Wow, I thought I was the only who noticed that. I'm sure it's just a
coincidence. I really like the Deftones though. He screams a lot but he
is pretty good singer when he actually sings.
And to another annoying factor to the whole Puffy thread, I was at the
local newstand checking out the new magazines, and who did I see on the
cover of Wolf Marshall's Guitar One: you guessed it, Puff. On the cover
of a guitar magazine. It was because of his involvement with Dave Grohl.
They even have a song transcribed in there. Oh, and the lyrics are real
high-class stuff too. Made me wanna gag. Anyways, hope to see some of
y'all at the the Detroit Rock City show tonight. Ciao.

Definetely a GREAT show, and my ears are feeling it now! As a Cincy
native I got down to the club at around 3:00 in the afternoon just to hang
out, to bad the band didn't turn out till around 5:00! Anyhow, met some
great fans, no Ytsejammers suprisingly (although there were a TON of people
from Indy!)! I was Mike P's first drum solo victim on the snare, which was
a complete blast, even though I'm a guitar player (don't tell him that)! I
would REALLY like a copy of that show if anyone recorded it! I think my
free form drumming with Mike went well, although during the Simon Says bit I
kind of lost myself there at the end with teh finale, so for that I
apologize! Still, I wouldn't take it back for anything in the world, even
if my ears are suffering permanent damage since I was right in the way of
John P's rig! Too bad there wasn't a meet and greet after the show, I
guess the boys were just too tired, although I don't think Derick ever went
backstage after the show, I bumped into him at the merchandise booth, which
was just a continuation of when we met when he pulled up and asked me where
the club was as we were standing right in front of it! Cool guy! Well,
that's all from Cincy., I've had three hours sleep (sleeping w/my Portnoy
Pro-marks and Petrucci's Jazz 3), and my ears are absolutely screwed
(figures the ONE show I don't have plugs at) - So, for everyone that I
didn't meet but really wanted to, here's to next time!
