assuming the rest of the ~ten jams from yesterday and today are all full
of anti-rap anti-Puffy statements, I have to reply to one comment.....

(with no apologies for wildly off-topic remarks)

    >And I'm not just talking about music, either. Check the local movie
    >theater. Titanic. Godzilla. Flubber. All remakes of old ideas,
    >because movie makers couldn't think of any new stories. All
    >mass-marketed to death, so that the Lemmings would decide that they
    >are Good. And all named with one-word titles so stupid Americans
    >could remember what to order tickets for at the box office.

yeah, so that why I say you all have to go and see The Truman Show when
it comes out on June 5th....that's Jim Carrey's new movie, three words
in the title, so it's aimed at the smarter segment of Amercians, which
sorta makes sense because to figure out what's going on in the first
thirty minutes you gotta either a) have seen the preview or b) be smart,
which isn't a knock on the film, but rather an endorsement of the
director (peter weir, i believe) for not going with the standard hit you
over the head this is what the movie is all about (in the first five
minutes) technique of American film.....and i'm just telling you, this
is one of the greatest movies i may have ever seen.

mail me for a lucid retelling of this tale if you care

As I recall, most of the musicians on the SNL stage (Puff Daddy excluded)
didn't really seem to be getting into the song as much as they should have.
    :)

Glad you mentioned that... for the past few months, the Symphonic Led
Zeppelin album, entitled "Kashmir", has been in record stores. Highly
recommended for those of us disillusioned Led Zeppelin fans who want a
respectable "different take" on Zep's music.

For those who are wondering... there are NO samples of Puff Daddy or any
other rappers on this CD. Most of the tracks are pure orchestral, with two
"ambient mix" tracks to start and finish the album. All in all, very
tastefully done... an intelligent and artistic reworking of some of my
favorite Led Zeppelin songs. Their version of "When The Levee Breaks" is
my favorite track on the album.

    Anyone else have this? Comments?

Well, that was my post for this year. Back to lurk mode until 1999. ;)

Hello, I just received their cd called "listen" which I ordered thru
Knighs of the Round, This is very good.. very dark sounding.. and it
uses lots of vocal samples from many stuff i dont recognize..so i think
its made up. If you liked their 2 mp3's on mosh's site.. youll like the
cd...which mostly sounds similar throughout...the vocalist sounds a lot
like KJLB when he screams...if you liked their samples its definately
    worth checking out..

I must add to all the warm and fuzzy vibes and say that the Irving Plaza show was most certainly the best I've seen and heard of the band yet. Although I could've dealt without the nasty view of the Full on the Mouth guitarist flashing his nipple rings...blech!
I was friggin hysterical when some dude right near me in the audience yelled out "TURN OFF THE DRUM MACHINE!!!!"
(If that was you Pasqual, right on man.)
Also, I've heard many other 'jammers talking about Derek's gear, and I would like to clarify that one of the assumed Korg Trinity's that Derek was playing with is actually a new Korg Z1. You can tell, because of the knobs that stick up on along the main panel.

And finally, did anyone else see Derek's SHIT FIT when he finished playing the TtT solo? Rather, did anyone HEAR the solo?

Sure it was the thrid song they played, but someone should have worked out those kinks before they got that far. Man was he pissed. cussin' and waving his arms 'n' shit. Not only that, but it was getting real funny how James kept on directing the spotlight guys to focus on Derek while he played his solos.
By the way, didn't James' hair look great too?

We got back from Philly safely at about 11:10 last night (a tad less
than 12 hours including stops of c. 45 min. total -- pretty fast!)
Pretty exhausted..... I think Adam P. is cooking up a post about the
show, so I'll just say it was awesome, well-worth the drive, and it
was great to meet some Jammers for the first time (e.g., Grinder,
Pete) and see some again (e.g., Syrinx, Rob/Ibanez). I won't list
everyone because I'll forget someone. :)

heh......my brain is is bit slower than my fingers lately. There *is* a "gray area" so to speak, so I believe, as to how long a sample needs to be for permission to use it is requested, along with royalties as well. I could be wrong but I do remember hearing this somwhere. I think it only applies to musical property as well, considering the fact that OFB uses movie samples for a extended amount of time (over 15 seconds in SDV). I think it's something like over 5 or 6 seconds, and the artist needs to document the credits for the songs with a permission statement or something. Someone save me with some info. please.

This was totally unintentional and anybody who hates my insistent posting can come down here and kick my ass. Especially if you live on the East coast. But then again, you couldn't get over here to drive me to the DT shows, so why would you make theextra effort to kick my ass. :) And shucks, D, I never knew you felt that way about me. I am touched. Now back to your useless digest about some crappy band from long island that I had to miss. :) No offense mr. portnoy, I would say that you are the man, but I don't know because i haven't seen you in a while. Hey, maybe next time DT comes around, the tour bus can pick me up. I'd have a better chance of having MP take me to the show than anybody else I know. :)

Chris and his harem of convertable women. Hey, does the girl going with you to LA transform into a Walther P-38? No? What about a boombox?

I forgot to mention the oranguatan (at least I THINK that's how it's spelled), and I know Kezcom will remember this. I found myself laughing about this today. After Daytona's as we waited outside by the bus, some tall long-haired humanoid decided that the reason the band still hadn't come out of the club after fifteen minutes was because they were already on the bus. "They're in the bus, man. They're in there. They gotta be." He then left the group of waiting fans and positioned himself under the windows near the back of the tour bus. From there (and Damon this isn't meant to annoy you) he started this "ooh ooh OOH OOH AAH AAH EEE EEEAAAH!! AAAAH!!" noise, emulating some kind of monkey, screeching at the windows in an attempt to draw attention from whoever was inside.

Okay, well he didn't make actual monkey noises...my point is...

]From there he started with the jumping. As if shouting "HEY!!" "YO!!" "DUUUUDE!!" wasn't enough, he began pogo-ing himself upwards next to the bus so his face was level with the windowsill and timing it so he would shout "BLAAAH!!" just as he reached the top of his jump. When he failed with the verbal attack on the bus, which looked really funny to those of us who thought he was trying to knock the bus down with his vocal blasts, he took measures to a more drastic level.

Arms. We all love 'em. I have two myself. Oranguatan decided that, hey, maybe the glass is soundproof. Maybe it's plexi-glass. Maybe the whole bus is insulated. Maybe what I need to do right now is BEAT THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF THE BUS LIKE A FUCKING ORANGUATAN. And beat he did. Jump, scream, bangbangbang!! Jump, HEEEYYY!!, whapwhapwhap!! Can you believe the people with videocameras chose to wait for the band instead of capture this miracle of evolution on tape? I was hastily loading a roll of film into my camera when a figure suddenly appeared inside the bus, marching quickly towards the door. Heads began to turn, like that scene in "Fantasia" where T-Rex is coming and all the dinosaurs know it. All at once the group of us (twenty in all?) began to back away from the bus door...yeah back up...dude looks pissed...time for the fireworks...yeah keep bangin' buddy they're in there...oh shit...Santa Claus 'bout ta whoop some ass here...

Out burst an angry, portly man with a large beard. He was furious. He didn't bother taking that last step down the bus mini-stairway to step gingerly out into the parking lot, he just opened the door and flung himself out, landing with a loud "HEY JERKOFF!!" Suddenly I had a flashback... The year is 1985. A commercial appears on the television. Thirsty children at a birthday party. Nothing to drink. A small boy raises his head triumphantly and shouts "HEY KOOL-AID!!" BAM!! Through the wall busts the giant red Kool-Aid Man, magically summoned by the slogan to deliver a fresh pitcher of ice-cold Kool-Aid to the party. Then the flashback ended, and I imagined Portnoy and Myung and the bus driver in the tour bus, complaining about how quiet things were. The bus driver winks at Portnoy and shouts "HEY JERKOFF!!" BAM!! Monkeyman crashes through the bus window, pummeling and screeching at everything, bringing excitement to a dreary world!!

Anyway, angry man marched over to somewhat frightened Oranguatan and shouted "There's only one person on the bus and that's ME! And I'm tryin' ta SLEEP!" Then he marched back onto the bus, Oranguatan sulked, a girl in a Queensryche shirt argued with some local guy over who had the right to pick LaBrie's broken megaphone up off the ground and have him sign it, Sherinian was spotted with Claudia Schiffer, the cow jumped over the moon, and Vinnie the Soundguy came out and sang some Sinatra tunes.
