Valet is the easiest, you can park it yourself on numerous lots around the HoB, but the price is still the same... park on the street if yer real fast and good at getting a spot... (usually leave that to the locals, like me).

first off, testing my new Eudora. Lemme know if any strange hootenannies show up in my message. Also, I noticed that the winmail stuff tends to show up if people use non-ascii characters in their messages. Accented letters, bold, italics and such.
Got the Japanese HY today. I already have the German (?) one, so ther'es only a few differences. I like the fact that there'a a lyric sheet included in the Jap HY, and the fact that it has lyrics for TWIUTB, but the lyrics for YOM and BMS are the standard album ones. :(
I like Full on the Mouth. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I ordered their CD through CD Universe. It's pretty neat. Someone said that White Zombie "does it better" and I'd have to disagree. I can't listen to WZ. The annoying vocals and even more annoying samples grate on my nerves (especially that overused orgasm sample from More Human...) FOTM actually _sings_ and have _vocal harmonies_ which I like. I'm going to enjoy them as an opener, and may even bring my CD in for them to sign at the show.

Thanks for the level-headed reply Damon. Just so everyone doesn't think I'm an ass, this wasn't an attack toward Damon's opinion, even though after reading it I could see it being taken that way. I have to agree that the high-end is more easily damaged. When I have my hearing exam every so often (as mandated by work), in the last seven years of listening to a certain kind of noise (not music, but I am not getting more specific), my high-end hearing has been damaged greatly. I use the triple flange shooting earplugs, and they kick some serious ass for concerts. Even Yngwie doesn't hurt.

Back when I first started going to club shows about 7 or 8 years ago, I had the ULTIMATE in cheap ear protection. I'd crack open a fresh pack of Marlboros, bust the filters off of two, peel the paper, fluff 'em out, and VOILA! True story. :)
Granted, the protection they offered was marginal, but the way I looked at it, it was better than nothing. And to be honest, I don't think they muddied the sound up *nearly* as much as the foam earplugs do.

Dood, my g/f is the best. It all started one day in the car when I was listening to PMU and she said, "What is this? I love it." I, who had been talking about Dream Theater for the previous weeks we had known eachother <yes, it was that new of a relationship>, said, "THIS is Dream Theater." When I dropped her off I popped I&W out of the CD player and said, "Here. give it back to me whenever." she has since acquired all of DT's studio albums and the Hollow Years single, and come with me to three DT concerts <Fix for '96, Capitol Ballroom, and Daytona's> as well as a Rush concert and a Queensryche concert. She was already into metal before she knew me, but couldn't make her loyalties public because we're both classical voice majors and that kind of music brings strange attitudes from others in the classical music world. She has said, however, that this music has "filled a void in her life."
In fact, she has my copy of LTE with her this very instant. :)

hello all. i am new to the list, a guitarist, and a big fan of lots of different music including heavy progressive stuff like Cynic and Meshuggah, a lot of wierd underground prog metal like Spastic Ink and Spiral Architect, and jazz and fusion like Miles Davis. i like Petrucci's playing and DT's heavier, more instrumental songs, especially the 7 string. i absolutely love the LTE disc, partly because it captures a spontaneous live jazz vibe like the early Mahavishnu Orchestra.

a note on Chuck Schuldiner and Death - i read in a magazine years ago that Schuldiner always wanted to start a heavy progressive metal band with real vocals. i like the newer Death, ITP and Symbolic, very heavy but with great odd meter riffs and syncopations. the growling death style vocals are OK, but real singing is more impressive.
Chuck put Death on hold about a year ago and assembled a band called Control Denied. they cut some demos and no labels were interested, so he reformed Death and they will have a new CD out this fall on Nuclear Blast. but, some guy has the first Control Denied demo songs on his home page. the production is a little ragged, and Chuck is singing the melodic vocals himself [?], but they are pretty cool - check them out if you like the newer Death.

I could be wrong on this, but notice what Derek has brought DT on his first full album tour. DT has done: medleys, Nightmare Cinema, Nicky Lemons and the Migraines, Covers within songs, extended solo sections, and re-worked songs. But then again if you prefer Kevin Moore's "I hate the world and want to jump over my keyboard and pummel you into a fine pulp" look, it's fine with me. :)
