Hey, what DT-related sounds are people using for windows events? Me, I was going
to sample Queensryche to get "you have no messages in your mailbox" and cut
it to "you have messages in your mailbox," but for some reason my cdrom
won't read Empire.
I used to have Voivod saying "we are connected" as a startup sound, but have
since replaced it with the opening drum from Millennium (not New Millenium--no
one's saying "everything's going to be alright now" bullshit on this show).
I'm still looking for a good new mail idea and maybe something to replace the
other generic sounds.

That's easy. Whenever I'm doing a mic check, I begin, "I do remember one thing.
It took hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and by the time I was
done with it, I was so involved. I didn't know what to think. I carried it
around with me for days and days, playing little games. Like not looking at it for
a whole day and then, looking at it. To see if I still liked it."

Well, I just I'd just pitch in my .02 worth on the DT show yesterday at
St. Andrews.
I won't bother to do a full review or setlist, since Christian took care
of that task rather admirably.
Firstly, the show sounded MUCH better than October's show (I think the
sound techs for that show were on serious drugs). MUCH, MUCH better.
The guys all looked like they were having a great time also (especially
Mike & Derek). Petrucci's facial expressions really entertained me
too. Especially during his solos, his combination of an emotional
grimace, and sort of a "look, this is EASY", sly smile while slowly
nodding his head was really cool. Also, the band (especially Petrucci)
does a wonderful job of giving you the impression that they're looking
right in your eyes. On several occasions, I was thinking "Holy shit!
JP's staring right at me...... naw...... can't be"
All in all, a really great concert that was loads of fun.
Aftershow:
I was lucky enough to meet all the guys for the first time! (except
JM... I missed him)
All of them were EXTREMELY friendly! None of them seemed put out by
signing autographs, or taking pictures, which makes me appreciate them
even more!
James was very kind, and we shared a chuckle about last year's show at
St. Andrews, when James was sick.
John P. was also very nice. In particular he spent alot of time talking
to another fan who was asking John some questions (sounded like he was
asking about getting his own band off the ground, or something).
Derek was great! I find it hard to believe that he wasn't cool to some
jammers...... We had good laugh about "Nicky Lemons". ;-)
Mike was really cool........ and he passed along an interesting tidbit
to me. He mentioned the possibility of another live video in the near
future!
Can't wait to put my (now signed) DTIFC picture up, and get that film
developed!
The final word: My all-time best concert experience!

Hello all,
Long time 'jammer here (been here since 1993/4?) - not that that means
anything really...
I just recently bought Frank Zappa's _Sheik Yerbouti_, and also own
_Sleep Dirt_ (recommended by someone smart cookie from this list) - but
I don't know what to get next. I absolutely love Sleep Dirt, and would
like similar O'Hearn/Bozzio/Belew type stuff.
There's just so darn much to get :) (i suppose that's a good thing)
Mike Portnoy if you're reading this I know you're a huge fan...
All private email please: - or the 'jam - perhaps others need to be

You call that radio friendly? Now THIS is a radio friendly edit.
http://www.afn.org/~afn39111/newradio.zip ... mp3 format and tiny since i have less
than 2 megs disk quota
4:04 without being choppy. Almost not choppy. Not musically choppy, at least, but
there's a place where goldwave is not the program for the job. Within one second
the method will be obvious. It's the same one Kevin Shirley used to turn You
or Me into a pop song.
Here's "New Millennium," a damn catchy pop song in my opinion.

Message-ID: <DC98876F9BBBD111A5F900A02461FF1303C28A@mailnj.dialogic.com>
I have been reading the past few post about women and prog.
I have to say a few things, I don't always write to the list - -
issues with time.
1.) Women, truely good women are hard to find and when you add in
the fact that they should like progressive music or heavy - - You have a
very selective and small field to choose from. I guess you can say that any
women who likes prog is worth her wait in gold. Once you find her don't let
her go.
To the person, who's girlfriend told you to turn the crap off - I
rarely tell anyone that they should leave someone there with, but if she
can't show common sense and respect your choices in music - - She will not
show you common respect and it would be best to leave her behind.
2.) I am a member of a Frat. I didn't join for friends, I joined
because it was something I wanted for myself. It is great for career moves
later in your life, I found this out through dumb luck. It shows you know
how to play the game and are a team player. I look back at my choices both
as being the best and worst things I have done with my life.
If you do not belong to a Organization like a Frat, you would have
no idea of the benefits or even comment of the subject. I speak with my own
voice and opionion, I don't let people tell me my opionion. But since
everyone is entitle to their opionion, so are you.
Thats life.
3). Progressive Music, what can I say about this that we all don't
already know. It is a form of music which speaks to the heart. There are
no really bounderies to the new worlds that open to us when we listen to
it's enticing tones. I feel I am a more well round person for listening to
progressive music. And I can't dismiss the facts that I found someone, who
is wonderful and I deeply care about because of DT.
I can stop ranting now - -

Not too long ago. Maybe a couple months. They had most of the songs for the CD prepared before they even had an official name. It was tougher for them finding the right name than writing some of the tunes. :)
