Yeh, I know. I never post, but I couldn't let this go by me:

    >You will not see me, I will cloud your minds... you will see me as a
    >5'9" blonde with big zongas and a great behind.
    >-The Doc

Mosh is gonna crossdress? He's gonna still the show from DT!

    > e-mail me when it gets closer to June... and I'll let you know of > some shows.

Uh, Mosh, honey, it's mid-April now...how much closer does it have to
be? Maybe you're panty hose are on too tight?

    > Generally it's a non-moshing crowd at the HoB... mostly more mature > like folks... (as opposed to the word: OLD)

Oh my. Mosh has gone PC on us! NO WAY! Well, I knew it. Put a man in a
    dress and he develops TACT.

(There is TOO DT-content! Read it again.)

Finally got the European release of Hollow years, and I am pleased to
tell you all that I am... uh, pleased. :-)

The bad thing about it, IMO, is the cover, I mean, what is this? It
looks more like a CATERPILLAR advertisment than a DT cover. I mean,
the LIE cover ruled, and the TSM cover didn't suck too hard, either.
Well, for all I know, it IS a CAT ad. :-)
Aside from that, because of the wide angle lens, Portboy (Heh!) looks
    FAT. (Err... right)
Is the cover the same all over the world?
What did the BMS cover look like?

    Okay, now the tunes!
    1.HY (Radio Edit)
Edited by who? I mean, this is MASSACRE. OK, I reakted because I
know the tune. Ever played it for someone not familiar with HY? Did
they have a reaction of any kind? It sounds so ARTIFICIAL.

    2.HY (Regular)
    I love this song.

    3.YOM
This is the song I've been waiting for for months! At the first
listen, I couldn't understand the fuzz about it. YNM is so much
better! But after a few listens, it really began to sink in, and
when I at last had gotten used to that HORRIBLE sound (sorry John
and Mike :-) ) it really stuck! It's on heavy rotation in my Brain
Radio! :-) The instrumental interlude that is unique to YOM, is very
DT, and I really love it. It's great that it's that great a
difference between YNM and YOM, because, what's the point in having
demos as bonus track, when the only difference is the sound quality?
(These are opinions. Yes, you may flame me, and yes, you may continue
some of this material as a NEW THREAD) :-)

    4.TWIUTB
    A track that rocks! It's U2, all right, but I always dug DT's U2
inspired stuff, so it doesn't kill me (or the song, for that matter).
The song is great, but I can't figure out which song on FII it should
replace) (For those of you who want's to propose a song, remember that
    FII tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 do not apply, because they are
shorter than TWIUTB, and wouldn't leave enough space. I estimate
that there are no one on the list who would kick out TWO FII tunes to
    make room for TWIUTB. LOL!

Well, gotta run home and practice!

    C-ya!

Despite the fact that there are a few female prog rockers out there, I
have to agree that this music doesn't seem to appeal to most women (or
minorities). I think that white males constitute the majority of prog
rock fans. And that's a really poor reflection on the rest of us
considering this is perhaps the most intelligent modern music around.

    Well,

I'll make this short, DT rocked, James' voice wasn't shitty, and the
band had a blast playing up there!

I met all the guys after the show except for Myung, he ran away. All were
    cool, James was...well, James.

Bottom line, great show, made up for last October's dissapointment. If
you get a chance, go see them.

    Take care,

    Jeff E.

P.S. The guys from Michigan Tech were cool, a bit tired from their drive,
they'll post about their adventure as well as the "Bible Guy"
that was harrassing the band members...weird guy...

Don't bother wasting your money on one of those fancy-schmancy earplug
sets. Personally, I endorse the little wax blobs available in nearly every
pharmacy. Keep in mind, if one uses them like the label says, everything's
going to sound like sheeit, all muddy, with very little upper end. What
I've found works wonders is to insert plugs, as per directions, then push
them back a little bit, creating a tiny channel for natural sound to enter.
You filter out all of that "wall of noise", and still get the good stuff.
Using this system, I get awesome concert sound with little to no ringing in
the ears afterward. And all for about $1.50.

One noun and a preposition: "A Vision". Can you folks imagine a modernized
version of this song? I know the band's not too interested in remaking
their Majesty demo songs, but it would be cool as hell to add it to the
setlist of a show or two (preferably one I was at, but...). Paging Dr.
Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Portnoy? (Moe, Larry, and Mikey)

Finally, to those interested in tape-trading, a good site to add yourself
    to (I just did):

    http://tapetracker.com/traderindex/

It's a giant index of tape-traders, and the first I've come across that
doesn't "require" you to be affiliated with the Greatful Dead, Phish, etc.
Give 'er a rip -- it can't hurt.

shows (I got Irving Plaza in NYC, 5/8/98). I want to trade with other
Jammers who got THIS leg of the tour. PLEASE!!! I'm hearing about
things they DIDN'T do at the show I saw, like JP singing The Trooper and
Enter Sandman at the Cincy show. I NEED THIS STUFF!! Contact me if you
    have anything.
BTW, and Jammers happen to catch Steve Morse play Long Island on March
24th? I heard Petrucci came out and played Cruise Control and The Bash!
For a tape of this, I'll give you my only son. Of course, 4 days

I apologize to those you this doesn't concern (most of you), but I've noticed there are a fair number of people on the list from Madison (Ryan Good, Josh Becker, Jason Breitweg (my former physics TA), etc). Anyhow I'm looking for an area record store that carries prog cd's. So far all the ones I've looked at have some DT, and maybe some Fates Warning and that's it. Is there anywhere in Madison with a wider selection, or I am going to have to go through mail order?

I just bought the $12 "sonic II" earplugs for the Detroit show last night, because the last time DT played Saint Andrews it killed my ears. Anyway, these are the earplugs with the little metal cylinders in them. The instructions say to put them in so that all the sound goes through the cylinder, and not around the earplug. The cylinder thingy is supposed to filter out all the screaming high end that really makes your ears ring. The fucking things were worthless. They filtered the sound, all right, but all I could hear was the bass and low drums. I mean the guitars (I only wore them for FOTM; I gave up on the earplugs by the time DT came on) were absolutely inaudible with the earplugs in. The weird thing, though, was that they if I covered the little holes in the cylinders with my fingers, effectively making them just like the cheap foam earplugs, they worked pretty well, although they cut the sound even more than I would have liked them to. And my friend, who had the cheap foam ones, said they worked great. Anyway, great show, I really didn't need the earplugs this time. Honestly, the Detroit DT show in October was the worst concert I've ever been to, but last night's was probably the best. The mix was a hundred times better. I don't know if Saint Andrew's got a new soundman or what. -Clark

Hi to all, especially those going to HOB, especially, especially, those who have been there before.

How's the sound at HOB? I hope it's good for goodness' sake. So, anyone have any perspective on earplugs for HOB L.A. in particular? I was just going to get the foam ones from Long's Drugs or Sav-On, or whomever. That is, if I don't find some better ones at some music store.

How's parking? I hear you can have the valets do it, but can I just park my car myself in the same garage? Do I have to go early to do that? What? Apologies to the valets and former valets out there. It's not that I don't trust you. I just don't trust most people when it comes to cars, driving, parking, etc. Call me paranoid.

That must provide for some healthy conflict, huh?

My original 'Dump her' comment was based on the fact that she bitched at him for even playing DT in the car. And they were NOT married. He still had time to GET OUT. ;~)

Now, DT is not my wife's favorite music either, but she will at least share it with me, in the car, at home, etc. She has also admitted to liking a lot of I & W. But, I also have the decency not to blast it at high levels when she's around. Plus, she's been with me since Majesty was just a twinkle in a young drummer's eye.

Only one thing, for those whose posts generates that winmail.dat attachment: that's a "feature" of Micro$oft Outlook 97, and if I'm not mistaken there's an update at the Microsoft site that fixes that and many other "features" Microsoft put in that program - and that soon showed up being annoying and useless.
