Bah. We already have the Japanese PPV video available. I want to see a good
FII vid.
I generally introduce the special female in my life as "This is Mary" and let
people figure it out from there. :)
The band is selling programs on this tour? Ooh ooh. If anyone can pick one
up for me, let me know. I will pay you for it as soon as you can send it out.
Dammit, Skadz, you're not getting MFP this month, so stop trying. :)

You'll be lucky to get to the beach by the encore if you go that way.
Everyone jokes that the LIE is the world's longest parking lot. Nobody jokes
about the Cross Bronx, tho... because it *is*, and it's not funny.
If you're coming from Jersey, take the Outerbridge Crossing, through Staten
Island, over the Verrazano Bridge, and take the Belt to the Southern State.
And you don't need to take the Wantagh. Take the Meadowbrook south from the
SSP. Once you get over the bridge (past the toll plaza -- and no, you don't
have to pay), stay in your right hand lane, and take the first right. This
loops you around 360 degrees, and puts you on a road that literally drives
right into the beach parking lot.
If you're in northern NJ, of course, then the Outerbridge might be out of your
way. Take the Lincoln Tunnel, and fight your way across midtown to the
Midtown Tunnel or the 59th Street Bridge. It sounds dumb, but you'll marinate
on the Cross Bronx.

So ya, think ya'd like to go to the show (Pink Floyd Reference)
Okay I have one more day to go until I get to have massive screamin'
Eargasms to the Music of Dream Theater LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will I have the gods with me again this time in my quest to meet the band?
Will I lose my cool (again) when I do? Will Lisa Marie and I be able to
hand our handmade with love, Ytse CaliCrew Banner to Mr. Portnoy himself?
Will I be able to smuggle my camera in again so that I can record that
event for posterity and UACM? Will I be able to get to the front so that
short little me will be able to see the show? Or will I have to resort to
my platform sneakers to see over the heads of tall prog boys? Will the
prog boys even look? Will Dr.Mosh appear as a blonde or brunette?? Or
Maybe a redhead??
The answers to these and many other questions burning my sole will be
answered Sunday after I have had a few hours sleep and some tea to recover
a voice I know I am sure I am gonna lose!
I'm just a wee bit wound up right now and no I have not had my famous
Dew....I just can't wait till tomorrow night!
All you Cali Crew.....see ya there...If you haven't yet met me, I'll be
easy to spot, er hear. I'm the one with the really big voice and black
platform sneakers! Can't wait to meet those I have not met yet!

Okay, I've finally got a chance to sit down and write some here. I
just want to agree with all the great things that are being said
about the Chicago show. The only somewhat undesirable part of the
night was trying to find the Vic once we got into town.
> Finally, security told us we had to go wait outside since we didn't have

Hey hey hey, come on, be nice :). I did see a JP/DS clinic about a
year ago. That should count for something :). I do feel kinda bad,
though, since I've been on the jam about 4 years or so and never saw
a real show until last Wed.

I'll agree with this. I hadn't heard anything by them prior to
seeing them that night, so I really didn't know what to expect. I
just heard they sucked. I, not being one to take people's comments
too seriously, gave them a fair chance and kinda dug their groove. I
really like dtheir bassist's tone, too. Nice and chunky :).

Yeah, I remember singing along with The Trooper after they finished
that opening riff :). The dude that was with me at the show (that
ended up sitting down and losing his spot up front) said someone
asked what that was when they played it and about 20 people around
yelled "Maiden!" :)
> (Heh - guess we proved that first secruity guard wrong). The moral of the

Hehe, yeah, I think I remember him introducing himself as "the
asshole" when I first walked up outside :). Everyone was definitely
cool.

Hey hey, come one :). I would've stayed, but I had only gotten about
3 hours of sleep the night before (drove a few hours to see a friend
play at a kickass blues bar in Columbia, MO and got home at 5am, then
got up and left for Chicago :). I'll make it up to ya next time :).

I'll do my damndest to make that show, even though it'll be a LONG
ass ride from here :).
I must say I was kinda jealous of those guys that parked their fat
motorcycles right in front of the place.

Okay, with Mads in Florida, the time has come for my twice-a-year posting
so I can share the bizarre experience that was DT in Chicago...
Pre-show: We arrived around 2:30 in front of the Vic and met Matt Stanich
( I know I'm spelling that wrong) Scott "Really, I'm 26!" Cook, and
several other Jammers and non-Jammers. As we waited, the line Nazi (no
line for you!) would come out and tell us to form a line because "it was
disturbing the people who lived in the area".. Um, sure. The tour bus
arrived around 4:30, and Scott weaseled his way into sound check, while
the rest of us tried to avoid some mysterious liquid that started leaking
thru the overhang. Oh, and more people arrived, including Al and Co. from
Minnesota and Todd "Has anyone told you you look like Geoff Tate?" and his
charming but sunburnt lady companion from Iowa. (if I get names wrong,
feel free to pummel me) Mads went over to the ticket window to see if we
were on the guest list or not. Derek walked by, and they eloped to
Hawaii while I stood in line screaming obscenities. Well, maybe.
Doors opened at 6:30, and I was roughly abused and my purse and personal
possessions were molested by the Amazonian Frisk Nazi (thanks to Al for
the Amazonian reference) which, in effect, put me in a rather bad mood for
the evening. Pulling another feat of weaseldom, Scott got a photo pass. :)
The show:
Um...wow! Full on the Mouth was quite impressive. We were at the rail for
the whole show, and those guys have a lot of energy and a lot of presence.
True, they were *not* shred, but who wants to hear people trying to
upstage the headlining band? Instead, they had some good grooves, which
warmed the crowd up. During the second or third song, the singer (who
occasionally made faces like a displeased pug) stood on the rail and
presented his belly for me to tickle, but I declined. Later, he decided to
shake my hand, which would normally be fine, except he forgot the fact
that short people have short arms, and nearly divested me of my short left
arm.
DT came on, yadda yadda yadda, it fragged my brain. Derek changed shirts
at least three times during the set. Mads started beating me with his arms
whenever a song with a beat came on, so when he caught a Portnoy
drumstick, he gave it to me, in a vague effort to appease this angry
redhead. :) We tossed our banner on stage when Mike was doing the
audience-drum thang, but he didn't see it, so one of the roadies grabbed
it.
Aftershow:
Well, having an after show pass is not as incredible as it's cracked up to
be. Derek came out, made a selection of wine and "woman" for the evening,
and after signing stuff and chatting, left. Mike and Marlene came out and
Mike signed some stuff and chatted for a while. Both of them are
*incredibly* cool, and whoever thought Derek was an asshole must have
caught him on a really bad night. The other guys had gone out to the bus,
so by the time we ran outside, Jimmy "the cheese" Labrie was already on
the bus (but Mads thinks James now resembles Bruce Campbell). Myung
managed to get inside the bus just as we got near it. Petrucci was
attempting an Abby Road-esque escape across the busy Chicago street with a
large crowd hampering his progress, so he'd walk maybe 2 steps before
stopping to sign something else. But, as they had an early flight to catch
(you greedy CA folk!) they all had to pile on the bus to leave. We're
still not quite sure what happened to Derek...
At that time, it was 1 AM, and all the good Chicago pizza places were
closed, so we happened upon "the Golden Apple 24-hour Restaurant" and ate
some food products there. Such as Al's fire-hazard roast turkey. :) Thanks
to all the jammers I met, especially the handful that came to dinner with
us. Oh, and the video card works. :)
All in all, it was a kick-ass night. Hopefully, Scott will find someone
with a scanner *hint* and delight us with pictures of sweaty, crammed
Jammers. :)

Well, it's interesting you ask... (grin)
Vai is actually an acronym -- Victor Arduini Imprezzio. He was the very
first guitarist for Fates Warning other than Matheos, of course. His best
work came with them. Check out Spectre Within or Night on Brocken.
Now, you're asking, "Okay, but where does 'Steve' come into play?" That's
actually a dedication to Stevie Ray Vaughn. When he died, Victor finally
decided to change his name to Steve VAI, or just Steve Vai. Simple, non?
Any opinions? Or did I send this man where he needs to go? (chuckle)
