Well, as far as I know, Under a Cyber Moon has a list of gigs, but I don't
know if they're "official" or "tentative". However, I CAN tell you that the
August 14 show in Canandaigua, NY at the Finger Lakes PAC is "official" cuz I
bought me 5 tix for it this morning when they went on sale! :-)
Judging from the diagram of the place at the Ticketbastard, it looks like
we're gonna be right-center, 11 rows back from the stage! WooHoo!!! The only
thing that bummed me out was the fact that DP and ELP were in huge letters on
the tickets, but DT was the small print under the first 2. It looks like the
boyz are gonna be starting things off. What did someone say the set length
was going to be? Was it 60 minutes? I forgot. Anyway, I was holding out
hope that ELP would be doing the opening. Ah well....

At the HoB on 5/17/98... (the liveconcerts broadcast). I was standing
next to the machine that was RealEncoding the concert. They were using
ISDN (Cisco 770 Router to be exact), and only 1 B channel. Right next to
the machine was Portnoy's DAT I believe... a TASCAM DA-P1. I could've
reached over and popped it out after the show... but I don't think he
would've appreciated me holding his DAT hostage... bwahahha

So we couldn't go to the recent DT SF show, because we had out of town visitors arriving that day. So we hold the local ytse-gathering here anyway (which was really, really cool, and which I'll talk about more later), and we figure, well, we'll see the band on their tour with ELP/DP.
I'm looking over the list of tourdates someone posted to the list, and see the following:

Well, Chroma Key has been signed to some European label with an album planned for sometime this summer, but it remains to be seen whether or not this album with be released over here. Guess we'll probably just have to look for imports.
I know it's a little early, but is anyone tentatively planning to go see the Purple/DT show in Tinley Park? I'd really like to go if ticket prices are reasonable and I don't have to be anywhere that day. Just wondering.

Just so everyone knows, as of May 18th 1998, Spock's Beard will be available in almost every record store across the country. Metal Blade picked up the newest record, Kindness of Strangers, and are distrubting it. Metal Blade distribution is through RED distribution/(which is owned by) SONY.
Please pass this along, and let people know they can find Spock's BEard in Record stores everywhere. Anyone have info on how this deal was maade, and when?

It would be either Rush or Pink Floyd. I was heavily into Floyd and only a little bit into Rush when my band started, and since my drummer was heavily into Rush and DT, it caused me to listen to the two of them more, now Rush is my 2nd fav, with DT as first. Sorry Floyd, you're 3rd now.

BTW, ever take into consideration on how Dream Theater might feel about people moshing at their concerts? Lets just put it this way, they are creating great peices of music, some technically chalenging, some breathtakingly beautiful, people ignore that and instead focus on the heavy rhythm, instead of the melodies and music played on top of it, like someone only looking at the canvas that Leonardo painted the Mona Lisa on instead of the finnished product.

I think it would be nice if we could have the 1998 addendum boot CD, seeing as there are already a few kickass boots from the first leg (SoC, FYS). The ACOS opener, ToT, TTT w/Freebird, Anna Lee (too bad Bogie's source was cut), and CIAW with the audience participation drum solo, PS w/Have a Cigar, and Petrucci's solo. I didn't know about Portnoy's wishes, so if he really wants it that way, we should abide, but I'd probably buy something like this. Anyways...

well, maybe this might be news to you, but a lot of people describe Dream Theater's music as PROGRESSIVE ___METAL___! METAL! >>METAL<<!!! Some people choose to express their emotions caused by music in ways different than your own. Instead of sitting there with your jaw scraping the floor, others would choose to headbang so much their nappy ass blonde hair turns into a flurry of static electrical energy (hoo doggy, don't I know how that feels), or get their entire bodies into it, and a group of friends would get together and mosh. It's just a reaction to music ppl enjoy, I do it occasionally...the Pantera pits were probably the scariest. And I got elbowed in the nuts by this 4' dwarf chick at the Megadeth show last June, didn't appreciate it too much.

Who's harming anybody? Using your body as a projectile is quite an enjoyable experience, so long as you're doing it in the proper area (see Pinball Guy, Urburossissippi's story), ie, in the mosh pit where everybody who wants to fling their bodies around ARE. I admit, the New Years Megadeth show had a bunch of cavemen and about 10 jammers getting caught in the mosh pits...I even got run down by a fat indian lady in a wheel chair for Kreissakes! IN A MOSH PIT!! Bizarre.

Okay, I'll admit it at this point...people do get injured at metal shows, but it's usually the caveman radio-listening pop culture pigeonholed cavemen that are doing the damage. The people who go out there and are tossing their bodies at eachother for the fun of it don't throw punches or whip out knives or anything.

I think they totally dig it, because it shows that the fans are REALLY into the music being produced. I see it as the highest form of flattery, other than mockery..er...you know. :)

You'll need it buddy. Heh heh, we had a couple discussions in IRC and you just haven't opened your mind to the world of heavy music...I mean GOOD heavy music. Like I said, go buy Symphony-X, if you don't love their stuff, you're fucked in the head. Old school metallica is really fun stuff to listen to and Megadeth is just awesome. There is SOOOOO much awesome music when you shut yourself off from a genre (of anything, ESPECIALLY METAL!!!). Don't be afraid, open your ears and don't be afraid to "get into it."
