    Hello folks. Someone pointed me here:
    www.noiserecords.com/sounds/soundscat.html
    to hear some Kamelot samples. I'm listening to it (when it's not rebuffering,
    dammit) and Ray Khan sounds like Mickey Mouse. I know they didn't record it
    this way, but I can't figure out how to maybe slow it down, or whatever, so
    that he sounds like he usually does, and not Alvin & the Chipmunks-tape-going-
    superspeed-on-crack voice. It automatically played off of RealPlayer 5.0. Is
    it me? Is it the RealPlayer? Is it the site? If anyone has any insights
    into this, I really would appreciate it. And if you could send it to private
    email, that would be great, as I seem to not be getting any 'jams today.
    Thanks!

    Alex

    > The liner notes have an interesting description of DT.

    that is an excellent description, if you are using the commonly
    accepted meaning of "progressive metal" to connotate melodic
    power metal bands playing technical / progressive music.

    most people unfortunately never hear about heavier bands that
    are just as progressive as DT and FW because they don't fit into
    this technical melodic power metal group [perhaps because some
    of them use death growl vocals]. these bands are thrash metal
    that _is_ progressive - it's a rare combination but extremely
    powerful when done well.

    HEYA!

    If anyone would like to join me for pre-show drinks and babbling, email
    me (not the 'jam, you know that though) before Saturday morning -->
    jazzmin@ou.edu <-- OR call me (405) 524-5377. Saturday after oh,
    tennish*, I'll be at (405) 830-0711, but given that it's my cell phone I
    might be out of range. Doesn't have the same capabilities as, oh, say,

    Yeh, I've been off the 'jam for a while, but some of you might remember

    Was easily my first Dream Theater concert, May 20th, 1998.

    To sum it all up into one word, which really isn't fair at all, I'd have
    to say the entire experience was UNBELIEVABLE! From the tailgate party
    to greeting the band to the actual performance and the after show
    antics, I have NEVER had this much fun at a concert (yes, this topped
    even my favorite Megadeth show at the Electric Ballsack in Tempe) and
    will cherish these memories as some of my favorite to the day I die!

    And if any of you people start knockin' the band members for being
    anything less than top-tier, classier than classy, grade-A awesome
    people, I will personally hunt you down, strap you naked in a heated
    leather lounge chair, and retell this story until you could repeat it
    backwards to me, with proper grammar!

    I'll have to get into detail of what went on last night in my next email
    (gonna go get the pics developed right now!!!), but I had to get these
    impressions out to the jam as soon as possible! Hey Mike, that was the
    BEST goddamn drum solo I've ever seen! I wish I was that little kid who
    you picked in the audience to jam with ya! ;) (who didn't?)

    hey everyone (or anyone for that matter)

    in the last day or so i haven't gotten anything from the jam...I know that i should have sent mail to the list owner, but it got bounced back to me with an error messge...I know that the jam goes slow sometimes, but no messages in 36 hours???? If the moderater or whoever is out there, let me know what happened to the jam...If I got unsubbed somehow by a third party, i'd like to know why...If there is a problem with the jam (server down or something) then i probably shouldn't have sent this, but how do i know???

    thanking anybody out there for the time to reply, and hoping for a solution to fly my way, slainte, Chuck

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONCERT REVIEW ADRIAN BELEW, ROBERT FRIPP, TREY GUNN BELLEVUE BALLROOM PHILADELPHIA,PA
    At 8:00pm the BELVIEIW BALLROOM, a beautiful marble, wrought iron, decorative venue was the setting for the begining of the PROJECT TWO "FRACTAL" group of the greater CRIM (as ROBERT describes it!). The material was basically from the PROJECT TWO album, with improvised changes implemented as the musicians saw fit. The most interesting part of the show was to see ace guitarist, ADRIAN BELEW behind the latest ROLAND ELECTRONIC DRUM KIT, which created som= e excellent cymbals, acoustic drum sounds and other percussive odities. He also provided bass notes over which TREY with his WARR guitar, and ROBERT with his custom LES PAUL, midi pedals and various effects, provided interlocking riffs, cascading dynamics, and space grooves! ADRAIN seemed at ease in this roll, and was smiling through-out. ROBERT played with extreme gusto, and gave room also for TREY to really show the crim-crowd the intensity that the WARR guitar is capable of. There was a break, and then a second part. At the begining of the show, there was an announcement stating that FLASH cameras were not allowed. The band left the stage after the second set. Robert returned in a few minutes to address the audience, and VROOM was to be the encore. Some idiot decided to use a flash, and FRIPP, who has asked the audience in the past to refrain from flash cameras was gone--in a FLASH! House lights came up, end o= f story! ADRIAN appeared after the show and talked for a half hour about his kit, and future plans. HE confirmed that VROOM was the encore, and that the =46LASH was the encore-killer! ADRIAN mentioned that PAT MASTELETTO, would be joining the tour in JULY, and perhaps BILL B. and TONY L would meet up with them at some point. ADRAIN is still practising guitar daily, and is about to revamp his whole guitar set up for the next CRIM-THING! No specific timetable was set for tha= t. The guys are enjoying themselves, and taking it one gig at a time. In the final analysis, it was a great experimental show by three great musicians. it was a short concert perhaps, but a memorable one!     Don't worry jammers, James is not leaving the band. I was just wondering, IF he did leave (and a sadder day there might never be), WHO would be a good replacement?
    They guy would need to have: a terrific vocal range (pitch-wise), an excellent melodic vocal style, wicked tone, vocal power, emotional expression and great mellow ballad delivery.... not to mention, a very good understanding of prog rock, odd-time signatures, and lyric\songwriting.
    Anyway, I thought.... Does any singer have ALL these features? I could only come up with one, who, incidentally, is also a Canadian singer, SEBASTIAN BACH (I don't know if he is still in SKID ROW or if the band is now defunct.) I've thought of this ever since I saw him on DT's LIVE AT THE MARQUEE video, sitting around with James Labrie and parodying TAKE THE TIME, "...somethin' that I FEE-YULLLL, somethin' that is REE-YULLLLL!" and doing that old Elvis lip trick. Jammers with the video will know what I'm talking about here.
    I think SEBASTIAN could do it, IMHO. Any thoughts from all you jammers out there? Disagreeement? Other choices??
    Take the Time, Alistair
