That would never happen. If we are lucky enough we would have a change to

I like this setlist quite a bit.
As to your concern about no Awake tunes....... How about taking out
JLMB and putting LSOaD or Lie in?

I don't consider it trickery. I consider it a question of compatability.
Remember, an opening band is not playing in front of it's own crowd
(that's part of the definition). The whole purpose of opening up for
another band is to expose new people to your music. So you have to ask
yourself the following questions:
1) Why are fans coming to see the headliner?
Answer: They like the kind of music the headliner produces
2) What do we, as an opening band, have in our arsenal that is similar to
the type of music the headliner produces?
If you're a brand new band with only one album out, then you really don't
have that much of a choice. But DT is in the fortunate position to not
only have several albums of material to chose from, but several different
styles or "moods" to chose from as well. If DT were opening up for
Megadeth, it would be absurd for them to play a set of WFS, AD, LSOAD,
TAMP, AL, and HY. You need to play to the crowd.
"Being yourself," as you put it, is fine in your own setting. But as an
opening band, your job is to effectively sell yourself to a sometimes
inhospitable crowd. That way your record sales increase, you get yourself
that much closer to being out of debt with the record company, and you
just might find yourself playing bigger venues on your own.

Two things:
(1) ELP has the distinction of being the band with the heaviest bass-end
I've ever seen. I've seen plenty of these so-called "heavy" bands
(Metallica, Megadeth, etc.) and none of 'em even came close to the
stomach-churning bass tones produced by Keith Emerson's keyboards. I could
feel the pretzel I had just eaten bouncing around inside me it was that
intense. Not a 'soft' band in concert by any means.
(2) ELP has an unfortunate tendency to not variate their setlist at all,
doing pretty much a 'greatest hits' sort of set. This sucks, as they've a
substantial number of good songs (aside from those on "In The Hot Seat"...)
they never play. However, they're supposedly working on their new album
this summer, last I heard, and may actually be putting some new songs into
the mix. This be a good thing in my mind, the new album supposed to be in
the vein of "Tarkus" (i.e. they've given up on the commercialized crap (if
you've heard ITHS, you know what I'm talking about)).

is winding down here at Auburn and a 20+ hour round trip just wasn't an

I just bought the Iron Maiden tribute album at Wal-Mart, of all places,
for $12. Some of the stuff is incredible! Opeth ("Remember Tomorrow"),
Angel Corpse ("Genghis Khan"), and Steel Prophet ("Ides of March/
Purgatory") are the highlights of this disc to me. I think that I could
have captured better sound quality on my 8-track than some of the tracks
on here, but that's to be expected, I suppose. It's called "A Call To
Irons" and is on Dwell Records (?), in case anyone cares. If anyone is
interested, I will put .mp3s of a song or two on my site.
Koba: I'll put the 10-hour workout on my site in the next few days.
It'll just be scans of the pages from when it originally ran in Guitar
World way back when.
If any of you own Sony Playstations, don't buy "Gran Turismo" unless
you've got plenty of time to spend playing it. I think that videogame
enthusiasts on this list would agree with me when I say that this is the
best driving game available anywhere.

Hmm. Who was it who predicted this a few months back? I think it was me
but that could just be my sketchy memory. But it does seem that FII may be
equivalent to Signals (insert favorite 90125/And then there were 3 - type
album).

First, James LaBrie is the perfect DT singer!
Comments on Andre Matos, Angra:
What's great about Matos Voice? I have only heard Holy Land of Angra. Even
if the album is good I find Matos a pretty poor singer. Sometimes good,
sometimes boring, sometimes realy poor, but never excellent.
In Make Believe (from Holy Land) during the end minute or so, he even sings
false. Not just a little, but much!

It is! It's one of the greatest albums ever. I've been listening to
Queensryche since they released their first ep. They are still a good band,
but in my oppinion they peaked a few years ago. Operation: Mindcrime is,
and will be, their best ever!

Some great responses on this topic; this is the kind of thoughtful
commentary that makes the Ytsejam worth subscribing to (even if I
can't always read digests THAT day. :))
I'm not as certain as some of you that
"TTT" couldn't be pulled off -- I think James is enough of a frontman
that he can tell if the front of an audience is "with them" or not. I
suspect most or all of these shows will be reserved-seating, so the
likelihood of Ytsejammers ruling the front rows is somewhat remote
(but wouldn't it be cool if......:)) --So having the crowd sing along
might be too much to ask. Doesn't mean they couldn't do it, though,
even if (horrors) James has to sing the chorus. Stranger things have
happened. Celery could start flying through the air over the stage.
Derek might catch a drumstick and replace Mike Piazza for the Mets.

I liked the rest of the setlist Richie (Rivera?) posted, particularly
starting with "NM." I liked that as an opener more than "LitS" on the
last tours, and besides, we can showcase John Myung and the Stick, and
make the progheads in the audience say "oooh, ahhhhhhh."
Someone asked if "avoiding long quiet parts" meant nixing "NM." I
shouldn't think so...... Overstressing James' voice.... Sure,
"Met. I" might be pushing it, but it's such a great showcase track for
the whole band I'd hate to leave it out. They -could- swap it with
"LtL" in a pinch since the lengths are sorta similar.
I didn't include the possibility of bands jamming together just
because if they do, the whole face of the show is changed. If members
of DP or ELP or both came out and jammed with DT, that'd get them a
lot of audience respect. :)

Last performance of Nightmare Cinema? Ouch! I didn't realize only
two North American shows (until now) had gotten to see NC, and I
consider myself lucky to have seen the Chicago show, airfare and shaky
subway rides and all. Sounds like those Texas shows were really
neet, and delightfully unpredictable. :)

Atl./GA area folks, I'd have given you a bit of warning about the Blue
Oyster Cult show last week if I'd had any warning at all about it
m'self....but I got a call at 4pm, the show was at 8pm, and the rest
of the day was a whirlwind. Side note: considering the complete and
total lack of advance notice or advertising (the show was part of a
festival/carnival, inasmuch as no club in town wants to pay BOC's high
guarantee), they were quite good. DTC: Eric Bloom of BOC is now a DT
fan; he's a good friend and I think it's because his son is into DT.

Thanks to all the jammers at the FT Worth show for being so kind, I know my english isnt very good and my pronunciation sucks hard but it was pretty cool to meet you all out there, I had a hell of fun on the show and before it started. After 12 hours on the bus we were very tired but we didnt care we arrived at the venue at 2 PM, we went to billy miners and we didnt see anybody, then we realized that we didnt know how the other jammers looked like so we sat down for a while...then we went out and found lots of people with DT, rush and queesnryche shirts, Chad had out tickets and he told us that he was going to be wearing a green ytsejam sweatshirt but Mauricio was a litle worried we didnt have the tickets yet and I was getting worried too, by 4 PM mauricio was asking everyone with a DT shirt if his name was Chad, then we met Nicole, Ken, Scott (did I get the name right?) and the other guy (sorry I didnt get your name)
I had a backpack and I truly recommend not to carry a backpack to a concert ever, it's pretty unconfortable, I had to hide my camera on my jeans but I was unable to take pictures until the end of the show cause I was afraid the security guy would take away my camera, it was a disposable camera so I dont know how good will the pictures be.
at the end of the show we waited outside for the guys, Myung came out quickly and didnt sign almost anything, derek was like 2 minutes out, then we waited until 2 30 AM and we saw the tour bus go out, portnoy was weaving on the window, he saw that we wanted to say hello so he asked the driver to pull off, labrie and portnoy came out of the bus and signed our stuff and talked a little, Portnoy asked who was on the mailing list and he asked us to say hello to the jam, I think that means that he wont be reading the list for a while, I got a picture with portnoy and one with labrie, it was real nice that they came down the bus.
it was my first time on Fort Worth (I finally learned how to spell it, I used to write Forth...) and I liked it a lot, at first we thought it was a ghost town since it was real quite. The Caravan of Dreams was a nice venue, the stage is the most little stage I ever seen (it was my first live DT concert but Ive seen a couple of boots)
Mauricio was looking for Ryan Whitaker since he wanted to pay him the new boots. we didnt see him.
I wanted to get a picture with all the jammers out there, but Im not sure why I didnt ask. I guess I thought nobody would be interested at all, anyway Im sorry now. i wish I asked...
***Spoilers*** ***Spoilers*** The show was pretty cool, they opened with Change of seasons (I think Chad has a complete setlists of the show) I really liked the setliest and only really missed Take The Time Some of the songs they played JLMB, UAGM, HY, ATFT, PMU, (this is not in order) from Awake I only remember Voices and from When Dream and They unite Ytsejam....they played metropolis/learning to live/change of seasons and a little of the killing hand as the medley on the encore...there was a part where a guy was screaming xanadu, xanadu and portnoy played a little of it, they played a little bit of led zep's good times (I think it was before the ytsejam, Im not sure though), on peruvian skies they did the have a cigar/enter sandman thing, petrucci added somewhere the thirs encounters melody, I didnt recognize what he played as a solo (I know he played the first track from LTE and the bumble bee but there was a part that he wanted us to recognize, the end sounded familiar though) I got petrucci's pick (thanks nicole). the three of us (Mauricio, Elena and Me) had a great time during the show, even when some people tried to surf on the crowd, and some people were pushing a lot (it's a real problem being a short guy) the opening band Full on the mouth was pretty good IMO, nothing similar to DT but I liked it, I got their CD at the end of the show...

Highlights: Metting Mr Portnoy and Labrie, Being in my first DT show, getting the pick, meeting all the jammers.
Shit that happened: there were some problems with out hotel reservations, we were supposed to stay at Days Inn but we ended in central park....the 12 hour ride on the bus, coming back was worse...a pigeon (i think t was a big one) took a shit on my saturday morning before arriving to the hotel (mauricio told me it sounded as if someone dropped water into the floor, guess how big it was)...not meeting Petrucci, god of guitar.
anyway it was all worth it (not that I like getting shit on my sweatshirt but I dont see a DT concert everyday)...
Also, I would like to ask....ATENTION....ATENTION....

I forgot to write on my last mail about Ft worth that it was very cool to hear Raise the Knife with lyrics, they didnt play it live but after the opening act and before rooster (before the band came out) they played cover my eyes, raise the knife (with lyrics), the way it used to be, talk to me and other song which I didnt recognize...at the end of the show they played the DT sinatra Under a Glass Moon, pretty cool!!!!

They ARE better musicians, they are FAR more experienced now than = 6 years ago. I mean, they HAVE to be! Sort of. K FII is utterly stunning. (8-D I bought it the previous weekend, and how = I love it! "Lines in the Sand" rules! It's the best DT song so far! (It = would have done better without Doug Pinnick's "oh yeah yeah"'s though.) The only song I don't like on FII is YNM.
And the stupid thread on who would replace KJLB: James is THE DT-singer. Period. Simply unreplacable. And he's not = leaving.
And, I guess someone already said this... WTF is a mellotron? Or rather: = how does it sound? Is it the sound DS uses in the beginning of LITS?
