Btw, if anyone hasn't checked out Nick's band's (Day Of Honour) sound

I like Genesis with Ray Wilson.
Even Priest without Halford is acceptable.
Hell, Maiden without Dickinson is ok, at least Balls to Picasso came out of
the split as a good thing!
But DT without James LaBrie...NO NO NO NO!!! I know he isn't leaving, and
I hope it will still that way. DT without James would be as much of a shame
as Queen could have been if they had continued without Freddie Mercury.
Some people are not replacable. Kiss never sounded like Kiss without Ace
Frehley. I NEVER want to hear anyone else sing Surrounded or Trial of
Tears. Noone could do James' stuff justice. He's the man, he's so bad he
    should be in detention! ;)

What do you btw think would be the most blasphemous split in rock (outside
    OFB)?
I vote for if Rush replaced any one of their members. :)

Sorry, for a second I thought you were talking about Andre Matos from Angra
    there. Obviously confused, right?

The man has one of the best voices around, easily up there with Keeper-era
Michael Kiske and mid-80s Bruce Dickinson. If you consider him to be a
poor singer, I'd love to hear who you consider to be great.

I just listened to it and, sure enough, he sounds great there. What does
'false' singing sound like, exactly? Enthrall me with your definition,
    please.

Sorry, I'm just a little pissed off.

6:00 AND Just Let Me breathe. Don't you think these two songs are very much
alike - as far as vibe? I would definitely say one or the other - but not
    both. Personally - I'd choose 6:00 - cuz I heard JLMB twice recently :o)

Well for what it's worth... I have seen all three bands live.
I think a surgical mix of prog & Metal would go well with that listening audience
regardless of the band they came to hear. My personal choice for a set list would
    be as follows:

ACOS part I & II - A great opener. Period!
Lifting Shadows - Live, this one is a real attention grabber.
Peruvian Skies - Something for everyone, and great live.
Lines In The Sand - This needs no comment.
Trial Of Tears - ELP fans will love this one. Derek will win their hearts on the solo.
Metropolis - Show them who the prog gods are!
Pull Me Under - A Good closer with fair recognition.

This gives good coverage of FII, and includes something from every KJLB album.
DT is not going to win that crowd with the "pretty" stuff. Stick to the prog and
don't get into the real heavy stuff, the "older" folk's may label them as a thrash band.
Shock them at first, wind down and do some mellow stuff, then slowly build to full
speed. This should get the pace makers working overtime for some of the older DP fans! I have
auditioned DT to over a hundred people, I usually ask what they
normally listen to, then select a tune accordingly. I can either get them to love em'
or hate em' simply by track selection. This I know to be true.
    Just my 2 cents...

Well, I'm back in the land of rain after a killer trip to sunny LA for the DT shows last weekend. You've already seen the setlists and heard how great they were, but I thought I'd tell y'all a little about my trip and some things I saw/heard and people I met. Sunday I arrived at the HOB and got in line. Why do I always get the lamest people behind me in line? This time it was two teen Beavis and Buttheads. Beavis was trying to describe his first blow job to the yet-to-be-blown Butthead. Then they talked about the songs they wanted to hear. They wouldn't even say Ytsejam for fear of mispronouncing it. Pretty funny. Inside, the front row was taken, so I just dorked around, looking for people in ytsewear. I met Rick Audet (hey) and some others I forgot (sorry). FotM was ok. DT was great. Suddenly I felt a big hand rubbing my bald head and it turns out it was Doc Mosh who I had met last August at the Marillion shows. Outside I saw DS waiting for his car with his brunette(!) woman. I talked to him for a bit. He seemed to be in kind of a hurry to leave so I wasn't going to ask for a picture, but his woman saw my camera, and asked if I wanted one, so who am I to say no? :) Then I went out front and JLB was out there talking to a few people. Some guys asked him if they would ever play SDV and James said only if KM was on stage with them. Then they asked about Another Day and Surrounded and he said they were going to try and work those back into the setlist in the future. He signed my I&A, then said "Is that all you want me to sign?" Then he grabbed my program and signed that even though I didn't even ask him. Cool. Monday follows....

I got in line early. This time the couple behind me in line had never even heard of DT. They just won tickets on the radio. They asked me if I knew a lot about the band. I said "A little bit." They said they like Metallica. I didn't want to confuse them so I said they were kinda like Metallica meets Rush. I met Calvin and Rick again. We got in and I got up front in front of DS and JM. I spotted a cute burgandy-haired woman and said "Are you Celeste?" and she said "Yeah!" This was definitely the best of the 8 DT shows I've seen. Couple of questions: In the drum solo, what was the "Reign of Blood" part? After TTT, who does the song Moby Dick? When the second fan was drumming, someone held out a beer bottle. MP did a little riff on that and then it shattered all over a beefy security guard. He didn't look amused but took it pretty well. Then Bruce D. accidently poured most of a bottle of water on another suprised bouncer dude. There was no moshing and the crowd was not pushy. I could've almost swung a dead cat and not hit anyone, and I was at the rail. This was a nice break from most shows where the guy behind you is giving you an anal probe and didn't even buy you dinner first. About 3/4 thought the show, the Metallicouple left and I quickly pulled Celeste up next to me. She didn't resist too much. :) She wanted to hang out after but her ride wanted to go. Next time, though. ;) After, I hung out in front, and eventually everyone came out, one at a time, including Bruce D., and Ray Alder. Bruce had another Maiden guy with him. Adrian something? I don't know. I was never into Maiden. Sue me. Some fans were downright stupid and rude. Everytime someone came out they would yell and scream and jump all over them. We Jammers (me and John(?) and his friend from UCSD) just hung out, respecful-like, and waited til they were done. JLB came over to us and said something like "You must be the cool fans".

MP came out with his family, the assholes swarmed him, and he said "Just let me get my family on the bus first", but they wouldn't leave, so his wife had to stroller Melody across a busy Sunset Ave. by herself. That pissed me off. Then this guy had the balls to ask him if they needed a rhythm guitarist! While I was ROTGLMAO, Mike just said sarcastically, "What do you think?" When JP went straight to the bus, the psychofans started saying shit like "Oh, he thinks he's too good for us" but they shut up when he came back. More stupid questions like "How much does it cost to go to Berkely?" I got some cool autographs like JP and MP on my LTE and JM on my SM single. Then we went to eat at Mel's diner with Mosh and Audet. Bill Maher was there. Ain't Hollywood cool? Trevor

    Hi,

Got the new Yes album the other day - actually it's not that new anymore. I think it's rather cool, although I haven't had time to get my teeth into it yet. I think Chris Squire makes all the difference. I also got tickets for Page and Plant who are playing the BJCC Coliseum, Birmingham, Al. on Monday 1st June - I think it's gonna rock - anyone else going (I don't know if there are any Alabama jammers).

    Cheers,

Dave (a UK jammer - now in Alabama).
