eh?
well, I may be a little mixed up here, (this is only my humble oppinion)
but this term is understood by me as the activity ordinary musical
groups do, with little or none artistic (let alone musical) abilities...
all they do is cheap "sticky" music for the brain-dead people who
actually *like* the stuff that UNFAIR broadcasts services (smells like
MTV "eMpTyV", no.1 home of the 1-hit-wonders) can't stop playing in
order to.... SELL OUT! (money... that's it...) comments?
thank you for your attention... (it's got merit)

I am one of those guys who loves this song, not becasue of any kind of

have voices in my head so i can relate hehe.

21st Century Schizoid Man was written by Peter Sinfield, the man behind
King Crimson in the first era. He's considered one of the band members. And
it IS King Crimson's song.
Voivod does the cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man in their latest album.
If you care, there is a cd single of 5-version of "21st Century Schizoid
Man" called "Schizoid Man", released by Discipline Global Mobile (DGM), UK.
All 5 trackss are from 3 different KC line-ups (Greg Lake, Boz Burrell (he
is in Bad Company now) and John Wetton). The most aggressive track is by
Boz from Earthbound (deleted). It is very raw.

Well, assuming you're not talking about "Rooster" :), the electronic music from A Clockwork Orange was composed by Walter/Wendy Carlos. I write it that way because at some point the musician in question underwent a voluntary sex change operation (I shit thee not). Not sure under what name he/she composed the music for that film, but I'll wager you could find a CD of it in the movie soundtrack section of a record store, or order it online from CDNow or somewhere.
Walter/Wendy Carlos is a fairly famous electronic composer, he/she has done a lot of recording, including other soundtrack music, but the particulars escape me at the moment.
Incidentally, for those of you who weren't at the Ft. Worth show, the whole crowd sang along to Rooster while it was playing over the PA. I could tell it was going to be a good night right away. :)

Well, in case you don't know (and if you'll take the quiz, you will know)...
"Voices" is Mike Portnoy's favorite Dream Theater song. This I know for a fact.
Also, the rapper on Awake is Prix-mo. He just happened to be in the studio the day they were recording that song. You'd known that too if you had taken the quiz :o)

Just your friendly neighborhood X'er information guy checking in for your entertainment.
The band has recently parted ways w/ Tom Walling (drums) & relpaced him with the fella he replaced, Jason Rullo. Walling has departed due to personal reasons that left him unable to remain with the band.
They are currently rehearsing for their 2 week tour of Japan (June 23 I believe is their first date, don't ask me where <s>), then they'll be playing that hard Rock Festival in Germany, then back in the states to the Baltimore PowerMad Fest (or something like that).
Local dates?? I'm working on it.... next week I'll get to meet the rest of the band & hope to convince them that they could get a good crowd at NY/NJ venues.
Back to lurk mode.....

in response to the knock on "voices" though, i grant that you may have your own opinion with regard to musical taste, but the song still kicks ass. yes, it has time changes, but i think the thing that most listners pick up on is the wide variance of attitude that the song portrays. the song begins very softly, picks up gradually, and has heavy balls by the end of the first minute. at the chorus, the sudden change from soft, quiet melody to those damn heavy balls again dragged me. i also think that mike is nearly at his best on this song (mike, if you are reading this, yes i am sucking up to you - god knows why). as good as john p is, the guitar lead should not make or break a song. this piece has incredibly good interaction between all members of dt. it also (maybe i am alone in experiencing this) does not seem to drag on at all, highly uncharacteristic of ten-minute songs (even i have to admit that LITS drags on a bit). oh well, i hope there are no flaws in my defense of a truly great song.

Oh my GAWD! A rapper! On ad DT album! Isn't it just grody to the max?
Yes, Prix-Mo is his real name. Mr. Mo would prefer it if you called him such (Mr. Mo).
I say grow a pair and get over it. Prix-mo did a, well, primo job on the voice-over, and added a darker dimension than James could have (I shudder to think).
Voices is wonderful, but A Mind Beside Itself rockz nadz. (grin)

i splurged a major part of a large gift certificate i got and bought four albums today:
Emerson, Lake & Palmer: _The Return of the Manticore_ (four CD greatest-hits box set) Yes: _Close to the Edge_ The Cure: _Wish_ (somehow the cure seems like a strange band for a prog-rock freak but i really dig them)
and, of course:
Dream Theater: _Awake_
I haven't listened to any of them yet except for the cure cd which i'm listening to right now, but it's great to get a bunch of new music!
