I agree. Eckie's somewhat domesticated, but he's still so stuck on Derek he
won't have anything to do with me. :( And there is no evidence that a
Tarrasque exists in the world. Hell, there's nary a crature about that can
compare to my 10 HD and 138 hp. Having a 25 Constitution really sucks,
because nothing can keep up with me. :(

BTW, notice how personal everyone gets about Metallica? I think it's kind
of funny. Mosh lurks for eons and as soon as the M word is uttered he
creeps forth from his dark hole to spread his poison across the land. I
    love it. :)

For Rogerio's benefit, and any other curious people's, Deicide's 1st 3 albums are FAR superior to "Serpents of the Light". The vocals, to me, are the coolest part of the last album, because the guitar sound and production in general is far better on the old stuff. The drumming is real, I've seen it done live. The songs on the 2nd album, "Legion" are far more technically inclined, and just better songs; Serpents is my least favorite album. I'd have to recommend the first album "Deicide" and the 2nd "Legion" (the best one, to me). Hope this helps. By the way as far as barney Greenway and vocal effects...I don't know, I have my doubts though because in the Uncovered show, I thought I heard a little bit of effect, and on their Greed Killing EP they play "Plague Rages" live, and at the end when he says "Thank You" it sounds kind of...funny, almost pitch shifted. Well, whatever. Sorry for the NDTC.

Oh, and it also has a cover of 2112 Overture by (I think) Paul Rorabeck (formerly of Grammatrain).

Almost decided not to go because of cash reasons (or the lack thereof), but I just read a couple reviews of some shows and they were all good, so I think I mgiht be there.

Joe D. liked my remarks about Payne's Gray: >This one sounds very intriguing! I heard some RA's on their site which >sounded really cool, but please tell me: how are the vocals? They >didn't sound too good on the site.... but then again, they are crappy >RA's, so who knows?

Well, there *are* a few spots on the disc where they're too much even for me; never more than a few seconds at a time, though. Both vocalists have a very operatic style, very high-pitched in places. "The Cavern of Flame" for example has some glass-shattering highs.

If you like Andre Matos' voice you'll probably get on just fine with Payne's Gray. If you think Matos sounds like a dolphin on helium with its balls being squeezed in a vice, then you probably will have a few bad moments listening to PG.

    >As far as Lovecraft goes, the (formerly) mighty Met has done two >Lovecraft-inspired songs "Call of Ktulu" and "The Thing That Should Not >Be".

I was actually making a rhetorical question re: the Lovecraft thing. I'm well aware of the two songs mentioned there. What I meant was "there aren't many bands that do anything based on Lovecraft's stuff and especially not an entire concept album devoted to it".

Joe Satriani absolutely tore me apart last night. But as a result of attending the concert, I missed the premier of Different Stages on the radio.. If anyone out there in Ytseland can make me a copy I'll be more than happy to offer monetary recompense or oral moisturization of the bodily part of your choice. **MINOR SPOILERS FOLLOW - READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL** I'm not overly familiar with his material, as I've been a bad and lazy jammer and never actually purchased anything by Joe, with the exception of my tape of Surfing With the Alien which I got when I was a teenager because the cover looked cool. I have heard most of his stuff though and I can tell you that he played Not of this Earth (or something from that album, if there is no song by this name), Circles, Flying in a Blue Dream, Crystal Planet, Up in the Sky, Summer Song, Satch Boogie, a warp speed version of Ice 9, Always With Me, Always With You, Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness, and a host of other tunes. The show was nearly three hours in duration, with a short acoustic set in the middle. I think one of the tunes he played was called "I Believe." And two encores! One of which featured that cool Raspberry Delta song. Stu Hamm played the funniest bass solo I'll probably ever see. I swear, everyone was laughing through most of it...his jump around antics, the Charlie Brown theme song, "rock star" faces, etc. Well, it was cooler than it reads...trust me :) Satriani needs to get a real drummer instead of a functional one. Although I am somewhat biased on this subject (being a drummer), just look at what Mike Mangini does on Fire Garden. Too bad he didn't have Gregg Bissonnette (are all the consonants in his name doubled except the B?) this time. Jeff Campitelli has good time but no feel, ya know? And, before shutting my trap, for those who are interested, Satch is still bald AND he wore his sunglasses throughout the entire show. -an aural hand

After all most woodland creatures are more apt to try to escape the penetrating looks <pun intended> offered to said. And I was also unaware of Dr. Laura's proclivities in such matters. As far as i know, Romeo has always played THAT way. It=B4s his style of=20 approaching the guitar, so, i dont think he tried to impress anyone by=20 playing that solo. That=B4s how he naturally plays. I can hear some nice=20 phrasing too here and there......., but the solo fitted quite good in the= =20 song. Well, about the ol' Metallica 'debate', if you want to call it that...

Are you who chant "METALLICA SOLD OUT.." (and I'm not one of them) saying they sold out for Load or the Black Album. If you're saying they sold out for Load, your dead fucking wrong. They didn't sell a FIFTH as many copies of Load compared their S/T (although, shit - 650,000 copies of Load on the release date wasn't so bad). Metallica is not appealing to the masses as much now as with the S/T (which sold in excess of 12,000,000 copies, and is STILL on the Billboard Top 100 list), and why would they risk alienating a huge portion of their fanbase if they weren't ENTIRELY committed to their music? They're not playing like this for the money. On the Black Album tour, they were playing stadiums (50,00+ people). Now their playing much smaller arenas (15-20,000). They're not making as much money as they used to, and they're no longer the talk of the music industry. Personally, I think both Load and ReLoad kick ass, but obviously in a very different way than RTL or AJFA. Think of it this way: if you were playing speed metal for 10 years, you'd probably get sick of it, too. To me "progressive" means, in a way, "open-minded". So, hell, lay off a bit on the "sellout" chants. Nobody who says they sold out at Load has a case. At the Black Album I can see your point, but I sure as hell don't agree....

I'm a little at loss for words. I honestly really can't see this aspect of this band. Granted, Mike Baker is NO James LaBrie, Geoff Tate, Russel Allen, or Andre Matos... There are VERY few people that can complete with this tallent. Personally, I don't especailly like Baker's voice alone but it really fits well when he sings vocal harmonies.

I'm beginning to think that SG is a love-hate kinda band... Which I think is unfortunate because I they are very good. What really stands out about the album is its concept. There hasn't really been a story-like concept like this since Operation:Mindcrime, (but they can't compare, O:M is leagues ahead of TYR). I'm being sung a story, which is very contemparory and interesting, where I can sit back and let my mind wander (take the trip). Additionally, SG is NOT balls & Chunk, and people can't listen to it wanting that.

People who haven't heard SG at all or who think that CiS was decent should get this album. However, those who have already shut their mind to SG, I can't say much...

    Give it a try.

So I hear now is the human mating season? Does that explain all the spice on the jam in the last week?

Anyway, I LIKE eternityX, and I really see them as the next step in progmetal - but then I am ignorant on almost ALL other progmetal bands...

And what do you mean Queensryche is due for a letdown? Dream Theater was brilliant since the dat they formed (I still need Majesty 1986), and NOTHING they have done has been a sellout OR a letdown (Oh yeah, I remember... some of you actually didn't LIKE FII! I do NOT understand this... I think it's better than IAW and Awake. There's more to it, and it doesn't sound the same. So sue me).

When I first heard 'Hear In The Now...' I was VERY disappointed. I thought only like 2 songs (You and Reach) sounded like Queensryche. But I listened again and again to lrt it grow on me and all of a sudden I was in love with songs like 'The Voice Inside' and 'Saved' and even 'All I want' (very Floyd/Parsonsey). So while I don't think it's as good as their previous 4 (well, MAYBE as good as Mindcrime... nah not quite) it's still a really good album, and some stuff rocks just the same (Hit The Black).

But does anybody know WHY DeGarmo left? I wonder how QR will sound now... when does the new one come out?

And as for Metallica (Uh-oh!), I like their newer sound (except the drums SUCK), but the songwriting is not nearly as inspired or creative as before. I mean sure, SME songs have it (both Unforgivens), but overall they just should have released the very best from each album as one CD. Now that CD would have rocked (except the drums would still suck).

So I'm a fan of Ride, Puppets, and definetely AJFA, but not Black onward... just too monotonous.

And the only song I know to be a Kiss song is that "Welcome to the show" song. And I like it, but it's the only thing I know fromn them.

And if it helps I also DO NOT LIKE Marylin Manson OR Van Halen (sicko and a bunch of party music crap). But VH does do some good songs... And Aerosmith is boring too, except like enough to fill up 1 CD over they're whole career. I got to give them credit for 'Kings & Queens' though.

    Enough of my ramblings...
