I have Age of Impact and Tyranny, both on which D.C. cooper sings on, and his
voice is so cool!!! I was wondering if he sounds like that on moving target by
Royal hunt, and if the music is quality too. You can just e-mail the results

Howdy all -
Well, it seems that the mighty Metallica debate has reared its ugly head
again. Anyway, this whole big nasty mess started with Roger's initial
question about the new Metallica album. Well, as someone mentioned, the album
itself won't be released until the 24th, but as I type this, the brand new
single is ending on my stereo (and you can bet that the tape player was
recording!). It's a cover of Bob Seger's AWESOME tune "Turn the Page". Now,
I have always loved this song, but 'Tallica's version is OUTSTANDING! They
spiced up a relatively laid-back tune, and it really rocks. Anyway, I won't
get into that whole "they suck" or "they don't suck" debate, cuz this isn't
the forum for this. But, to answer Roger's question, at least the first new
cover on the album is absolutely GREAT! :-)
In regards to the "Tyranny" vs. "Carved In Stone" comparison/debate, my wife
has always claimed Shadow Gallery to be "wussy" based on her exposure to CiS
and their first album. However, she has since fallen in love with Tyranny and
admits that it is worlds better than CiS. To put it in perspective, she is a
big Queensryche, DT, Fates Warning, and Stratovarius fan. So, while it is a
SAFE bet that if you don't like CiS, you won't like Tyranny, it certainly is
not a SURE bet. For what it's worth, I say give "Tyranny" a shot. IMHO, it's
the best album I've heard this year so far by A LOT.

We know you are relatively new Stickmaster D. Perhaps before suggesting
that a Ytsejam vet get kicked off the list he helped create (I am a bit
rusty on my Ytse-history), you should probably find out who he is. Doc,
for better or worse, is here to stay.
And besides, if he stays, you can bug the shit out of him to get you
backstage at some of the CA shows...

Maybe by default....
Mine arrived about then but I wasn't expecting it until about another
week.....
So i did a token mailbox check, not looking for OiaL, and lo and
behold....there it was in all it's glory.....
This resulted in a quick change of my "going to the movies" plan and
I settled i for a night of tunes....
Overall i'm totally stoked....it's an excellent
album.....jaaaaaaaammmmmeeessss is excellent, Derek too - though his
solo is a little short I thought....still good.....JP, MP and JM
nees no acclaim
OiaL has really made me appreciate the FII songs - TOT, JLMB, LITS,
TAMP, HY, PS.....They seem to work much better live.....
Anyway, enough rambling....

i was under the impression that almost all death style singers use
some degree of reverb etc....but not total voice changing
effects.....

Temple of Knowledge....if you make it through the entire album your
a true fucking legend....the sounds like a dog barking!! :)

This song is one of the fastest Metallica has ever played. And
James sounds so pissed. The song is about a child that has grown tired of
having his freedom limited by his parents. BTW, this whole album (AJFA)
has a very dark feel, since its first song, "Blackened". Recommended, if
you don't know it.

Hummm... I don't know. Some bands do sound like they have put some
effects, but others don't. The more "screamed" vocals (At the Gates, In
Flames, Dark Tranquillity) seem to be natural (well, at least I can scream
like that for a good deal of time, while still maintaing the "quality").
The "cookie monster", deeper vocals are harder to accomplish (say,
Amorphis, Deicide) and I think that they use some sort of effects.
But after listening to Barney Greenway say that "Noise", I'm not
so sure that all vocalists use effects. The man's gotta a real low voice
(or there were effects involved since he started saying anything -- was
this the cause he was testing the mike?)
Anyway, other vocals which seem to be "true" include some of Dan
Swano's on "Crimson" and Mikael Akerfeldt's on "Morningrise" or
"Orchid"... Mikael *DID* use something on the first verse of "Demon of the
Fall" (you know, the "Silent dance with death/Everything is lost/Torn by
the arrival of Autumn/The blink of an Eye" part).
At first, I didn't like it, but then I came to be used to it and
now I think that it's essential to the feeling of the album, but one of my
preferred parts of MAYH is, definitely, the instrumental "Epilogue". It
gives me so many chills...

P.S.: Well understood: some black metal shrieking is as humanly impossible

Hmmm..I dunno. I kinda like his drumming on CP. Its neat, it grooves,
it doesn't get in the way. Lots of fills don't really appeal to
me...unless it's DT, then it fits right in. But Satch's music is much
simpler, and doesn't seem to require many 12th note fills. Just my
opinion though :) More groove, less chops.

Kickass!!! The reviewer coulda trimmed down telling the whole damn
story a bit - how's about not spoiling everything for the folks you're
recommending the album to - but it was pretty nifty to see a Sava
feature. I must say :) I'm very gratified. So are all
my albums and posters. Anyway. I thought the interview with
Jon at the bottom was a great add-on, although can you say
"suckup" as far as the interviewer was concerned? Hehe,
it may be genuine, it just looked so weird sometimes...<br>
