Excuse me. that should read I am normally not one to suggest doing anything mean or rude to anyone. Big difference. My apologies.

Also someone made the statement that expecting more out of a band is the biggest compliment you can gave them, I agree completely. The reason I did not like Falling Into INfinity, though there are a few great songs, is because when I listen to songs like You Not Me I KNOW they can do better. Yes, bands change style, but as far as Metallica goes, there's a difference between changing styles to further challenge yourself (ala Rush) and doing everything in your power to change your image and sound. Cutting their hair, toning down their music, doing everything they can to throw away the image that they used to be PROUD of, and the image they choose to replace it with (the alternarock MTV image) also happens to be the highest selling musical genre at this time. I would say that this change is strange, if not a blatant sell out. Regardless of this, Metallica is NOT challenging themselves, they've gotten monotonous, boring, and dry, in my opinion. Also, as far as them making less money, just because the attempt to change didn't work, does not mean they didn't sell out. Perhaps people saw through their attempts. Oh well, sell outs or not, I've found better bands, and you certainly won't find Load or Reload in my cd collection.

I leave you with these words:

Thank you. I've always thought it had a certian The Cure flavor to it, which I like. And no, it's not a cover. You might be thinking of "Speak My Language" or "Close To Me", by The Cure.

HAHAHA!!! I have always wondered why he sings with his tongue sticking out like that. It's NOT the production (whoever asked that), he just lets it all hang out up there.

I don't want this to sound like a flame at James, he rocks. But this IS pretty annoying. You play DT to people who don't have a clue about music, and all they say is "cool music, but WTF is that muffled high-ass crap?"

Well I love the high-ass crap, I just wish the words were a part of the music. It's like it doesn't matter what the words are...

    Then Matt Smith said:

    >>>Look, Mosh, the reason many people don't respect your opinion is your,"I don't like it, so it sucks" attitude. I'm of the opinion that Reload is the best Metallica album of the 90s, so I'm smoking martian weed. OK, whatever. There are a lot of bands I think really suck but I don't constantly tell their fans how stupid they are.<<<

Well, personally, I like the new sound, but I don't think they're 90s stuff is as inspired, and I don't feel like I have to kiss their ass just because they influenced DT. I don't like it so it suX.

And this is NOT a Metallica mailing list. If somebody were to say that they think Queensryche suX, it would annoy me, but this IS a Dream Theater list, last tine I checked. And Metallica is not even prog (well, maybe they USED to be, a little). He never said FII suX (as some have gotten pretty close to saying...)

    Just my thoughts...

OK, time for justice for all! ;)

First, how can someone say about a band like Metallica that they sold out? They exist for quite a bit, survived few tests of time, and now, when they want to make some change you jump on them! Lemme ask you: Do they lack money to sellout NOW? Why would they do that? They're popular enough to lead, in a way, their direction, and the companies will follow them with slimy mouths, for the money Metallica brings them.

Same folks bash DT for the "commercial" FII!

I bet you also don't like Skid Row change huh? I happen to ADORE Subhuman Race album and find it the freshest move Skid Row could make!

I heard that Bruce Dickinson left Maiden because the other's guys main concern in composing was "We MUST keep our good ol' Maiden sound". That way they limit themselves . Now this sounds nearer to selling out! "We got money as metal kings so far, so let's just keep it that way and don't change a thing!"

More or less, heavy metal of that type is dead, IMHO! (Oh no, what did I start here)

BTW, I like Iron Maiden and some Metallica stuff!

    > From: Matt Smith <ktulu@arches.uga.edu> > > I'm of the opinion that Reload is the best > Metallica album of the 90s, so I'm smoking martian weed.

Agreed totally! There's much diversity on Load/Reload sound and it sounds like a great change. And it is still the Metallica sound behind it.

This club in Seattle somehow gets old bands to play there like Berlin, Missing Persons, Dead or Alive, Flock of Seagulls, and even Rick Springfield. blackened is actually quite progressive, i realized. has to be one of my fave metallica songs. i love that part at the end where everyone plays the same riff but then lars does a pattern in what is it, 15/8 or sumfin so that on each repeat the drums are lined up differently with the guitars, including that one where the downbeat on the drums is on the upbeat of the guitars, anyways, it's just cool. sounds like something everyone's favorite drummer (shut up! it's MP! no! no different opinions! only mine!) would do :) Moo.
