Hmmm, i don't think so. Here in Belgium, the video is widely available. I
still don't have it though, but it seems rather odd that they'd release
5yial in the UK and on the continent in a format that no-one is able to
play on their video... I don't think you (or me) (:-)) have to worry...

Just a quick (or rather: two quick) OIAL question(s):

    1. I was wondering if there are any french jammers who attended the june
25 concert in paris... What did they think of the show, and of the final
    album??

    2. It seems that DT played about for about 210 mins that evening, of which
only 153 mins made onto the album... What other songs did they play (i.e.
what can we blame DT for not putting on the album?)

I think MP once adressed this issue, and said that the cost of the normal japanese
release over in Japan, would cost way more than if they simply ordered an import
american album, so to encourage them to buy the japanese release, they throw in
bonus discs, tracks, locks of JP's hair,...whatever...

    Hey there Jamheads....

I just wanted to mention that you should really understand that Satriani and
his band are really all about guitar playing...... People that buy his
records and visit his concerts are mostly guitarists..... Joe just wants a
drummer that gives him the space to go bananas. If a drummer would also play
very "virtuoso-ish", it would be chaos.... If you want to see a band which
is all about drumming, don't go see Satriani... Go see Dave Weckl or Simon
    Phillips....

How nice to see Gregg Bissonette's name on the 'jam. No, he's not an
intricate drummer like Portnoy, nor is he as versatile as Peart, but he
was my first introduction to "shifting the beat" in a song and also
double bass. Not like I actually played trap set much after I saw his
clinic back in '90, but... Oops! Am I dating myself? ;)

But he's got a very basic technique to which he takes a few measures of
a song and "shifts" the downbeat ahead or behind one 16th note to give
it an offbeat feel. To understand what I'm talking about, go get his
instructional video at your local music store.

    On OiaLT:
I know I'm late, but I really like the music. Yeah, James is a bit off
in some of the songs, but after being rasied on B*hr boots, I thought
the sound quality was excellent for a live show. But I have a
question. Does anyone notice anything missing in the solos? For
example, JP doesn't play the piece of the Sinatra song "My Way," and
Portnoy doesn't play his solo with audience members like he did in the
US. I get the impression that *maybe* these sections were cut from the
cd, and I wonder if "My Way" didn't make the final cut because of
problems obtaining rights. Remember, that's all my speculation. Can
anyone shed some light on this?

not quite. i believe this is in the FAQ. due to conversion rates and all, in
japan it's actually cheaper to buy import cds from the US than local
japanese versions, so to inspire a little patriotic purchasing, they stick
extra tracks on the japanese versions. moo.

During the short time I have been on the jam I certainly haven't seen much
    tolerance of other people's opinions.

I HAVE seen a lot of bitching however. Is this the way most Dream Theater
fans behave towards each other or is it meant to be 'tongue in cheek'? Just
wondering. Please could someone let me know?

IF you are all SERIOUS then you are not very nice people are you?

IF this is the case, how could such a brilliant band have such HORRIBLE fans?

Presumably IF this is true then it is no wonder that Mike Portnoy only sends
to the list occasionally. So if there are any other band members subscribed,
they would be under aliases I suppose, to protect themselves.

Does anyone else have any OPINIONS on this matter?

Agreed. There are many drummers who play simple like that who don't get any credit because they don't just go off and tear it up. Two of such off of the top of my head are Michael Sturgis and Charlie Adams. Great, great "feel" drummers who can add the coolest most simple fills at just the right moments and trigger an eargasm. FYI, Sturgis (ex-21 Guns) currently plays for Asia, and Charlie Adams (ex-Yanni) is now off making his own albums last I heard.

As long as they're (not their, damn homonyms) not programmed drums, I'm not one to complain, unless the author had no other choice and didn't make them all "dancy." :)

Dr. Laura Korg plugs: You're likely just too closely matched. I see it all the time. Having too many common interests with a person you've taken (probably) a mostly physical interest in doesn't work out too well. Part of the relationship stage is introduction to new ideas. If two people share too many, then there is nothing new to start the relationship with and it is not intellectually stimulating. I suppose that's why my friend is marrying a classical/opera girl. She gets him listening to Kismet, and he gets her listening to Bruce Dickinson. :) Don't put yourself down. I wouldn't date you either. Doh! :) It could also be a personality conflict. You may be a tech-minded person while she may be a lesbian crackwhore. Hmmm... Nevermind.
