I started this discussion in alt.music.dream-theater, but why not bring it into
the Ytsejam mailing list for
further opinions. I (daringly) rated the albums with DT participation this year
as follows:1. Dream Theater -
Once in a LIVEtime
2. Platypus - When pus comes to shove
3. Explorer's club - Age of impact
4. Liquid Tension Experiment - selftitled
By putting LTE last doesn't mean that I don't like the album, it is great! The
other ones are simply better,
IMHO. Explorer's club didn't do that much to me at the start. If you asked me 3
weeks ago, I would easily have
put EC last. But after having it in the CD changer in my car for a month my
opinion has changed.
I really like the epic, 'Pink Floydish' feeling of the whole album (it's like a
theme) and I think it gets better and better each time I listen to it.
To NuGgEtMaN: I don't want to buy myself a new set of ears. Mine works great,
especially when I am listening
to DT, Platypus, EC and LTE ;-)

I too can't get enough of the 80's-early 90's metal. I had to laugh when I read your comment about Bon Jovi not sounding too bad. My friends and I were sitting around talking just this past weekend about that same subject.
I was saying that there was a time when I used to bitch about them playing stuff like Bon Jovi and Poison. And now I would gladly put up with hearing that once in a while to hear some decent music on the radio again. It used to be that Bon Jovi and such was the WORST thing that was played, and I agree compared to the crap thats played today it IS great!
Rock radio is in a sad state today...

For a drummer, the world of music isn't all about show off drumming dude.... I got most of Vai's and Satriani's albums, Mangini is one of my heroes.... But I don't just buy records with mega-drummers.... I also have all the "old" Extreme cd's, Ugly Kid Joe, AC/DC.... These drummers are "good" but you know what I mean.... It is all about what a band sounds like.. Not how technical the musicians are... Altought when they are, the music MIGHT be more interesting...

Yah, I finally realized that about the time I'd snapped was when Frito Lay stopped marketing Pizza Puffs. I think there's a link. Cheetos sate the addiction but never replace it. :(
